Who are the "Vampires" of the fallout universe?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:39 am

Couple years back I had the realization that the Borg of the Star Trek universe are actually that Lore's zombies.

Since then it's been fun to pick out the various monster stereotypes of other games/universes.

Recently I role-played a "Paladin" both in buildout but also his personal outlook as a "Holy Warrior."

Trying to figure out the various undead types in Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, it's been a struggle to pinpoint what exactly fits the vampire stereotype.

In my opinion, the "vampire" in video games, by definition, steals some type of life force, essence, or energy from enemies as part of their attacks.

Since Fallout 4 shares the same universe, is there anything in any of the 3 most recent fallout that fits the above definition of a "vampire"?

For reference sake, I've listed what I think fit the other "medieval" monster rolls or stereotypes.

Ghoul/Zombie - ghouls, feral ghouls

Ghosts - Holograms

Skeleton - Lobotomite

LIch - Mr. House

Frankenstein's Monster- Super Mutant

Werewolf - Yao Guai

Chimera- Centaur

Golems - Robots

Creature from Black Lagoon - Mirelurk King

Deathclaw = Dragon

Nightkin = Demon

Vampires - "The Family"?, mosquitos?

I seem to recall some sort of mosquito enemy, either in previous Fallout games or in the few gameplay clips of Fallout 4 that we've seen.

Maybe Player would be a contender for Vampires roayl cape. Depending how we play our fella. I don't see any group suitable of vampire role. Unless you think about that group in Fallout 3 that drink blood. They were realistic vampires.

I suggest you add Mirelurk king as a monster of black lagoon.

Well we already have "Vampires" and they were basically just re-branded cannibals.

So cannibals.

I would say cannibals, bloodbugs, and the wannabee's from 3 fit the bill.

Cannibals are just that, cannibals. They consume part of their enemy after they're dead, not while they're alive. "The family" from fallout 3 is really a bunch of cannibals; even though they call themselves "vampires," they really aren't.

That mosquito from the fallout 4 might be the closest thing.

I'll add mirelurks and the mirelurk kings as anagolous to the creature from the black lagoon; I like that comparison.

Richard Gray = Vampire Lord? (FO2) That is the best I got since cannibal is off the table, but he could also be considered Dr. Frankenstien.

I'm curious what you think Professor Calvert's (the brain from Point Lookout) archetype is.

You have Dr Morbid in Juncktown and Iguana Bob in FO1. You have the Oregon's cannibals from FO2 and Bob's son. In Van Buren a character named El Diablo who many climed was a true vampire, you could hunt down.

I don't think Van Buren counts, untell the content gets published in a actual installment of Fallout, I.E released.

I'm actually hoping for Ghoulification being the Fallout equivalent of Vampirism as in TES.

I realize that for some that its sacrilege of the original Lore, but the game belongs to Bethsada now and I just feel that the company or Howard an Team need to really make it their own. I'd be fine either way with it however I think that enough of the players would be quite happy with such a mechanic and new lore direction with ghouls and gameplay wise it'd add some new elements. Modifications however could fill that in I suppose if such a thing doesn't happen.

Of course uh I'd rather see some form of horse back riding added into the game, of course we probably wouldn't ride horses but more likely some other mutant or animal instead. Of course I have no idea how that would be modded in as I believe someone did try to port it into FNV and for some reason that got shot down. So if it was done it'd mean that skeleton, animations, models, and gameplay mechanics would all have to be pretty much scratch built for that and unfortunately that is an extremely tall order to the magnitude of paid mod or actual DLC level of work details. So no one outside the company in their right mind would do that in current climate.

I don't see how being ghoulified would be counter to lore, the only real issue would be putting in new dialogue. (I guess it depends how they approach it, trust me when I say ghoul lore is kinda grey/vague.) Which allows alot of leeway on their side. But this is another topic entirely.

As far as archetypes they are most definitely zombies/ghouls.

Yeah I'd relate Ghouls the most to vampires, not zombies.

They are pretty much immortal, regenerate from rads and either they keep their cool or lose it and become feral(same as some vampire mythos). I don't really see any connection to zombies besides their appearance...

Well, "The Family" in Fallout 3 just drank blood. They at least thought of themselves as vampires. If you can survive on nothing but blood then you can't really be considered a cannibal. And, as humans couldn't survive solely on drinking blood, and cannibals don't actually need to eat human flesh to survive... there must have been something a bit different about them.

It might be an interesting read, (especially since elements from it have been included in Fallout Titles) , but I don't see the relevance of it, considering at large it's not considered canon.

But they aren't parasitic like vampires, the only thing coming close is when the kill someone to eat them when there feral. Maybe it is a little harded to see the connection with ghouls and zombies in the FO3/NV but in the FO1/2 the similarities were clear, the ferals even cried out for brains back then.
