Who cares the most about Skyrim?

Post » Fri Oct 29, 2010 10:36 pm

There are inherent flaws in those results. If everyone in norway uses google it will very likely skew the results. I don't use google as a search engine, and I am guessing a lot of other Americans don't either. American TES fans also have this site that is well known to go to find any new info about skyrim. I don't think I have run a search on skyrim in any search engine.

:blush2: I do it as I can't add Skyrim forum bookmarks to my work computer. :D

Joke: I like Argonians because Fin-land, see. :)

How? We're a Nordic country like Sweden and Norway too.

Doesn’t the browser remember pages you have visited?
OT: where did you get a fat Argonian?

I have never googled it once and I cannot wait for it. So that's not really an accurate portrayel of who is more interested.

Bingo! This is the flaw nobody's seeing.I know several people (and they all live in America) who are looking forward to Skyrim and none of them (to my knowledge) has ever Googled "Skyrim." I've never Googled Skyrim either.

Maybe it's because Americans are smart and know where to find info on Skyrim, so we don't have to google it? I have never googled it once and I cannot wait for it. So that's not really an accurate portrayal of who is more interested.
Same, and yeah. If you guys seriously trust in the trend thing from Google...I don't think any of you really have the right to belittle another country, and are way too gullible.

Butthurt are ya? I won't start flaming here as arguing over the internet is like running the special olympics, however I will make a suggestion, Blow me.
Flamebaiting is against the rules. I won't start with how you tried to throw in childish political jabs, but cool your jets.

wooho we norwegians have good taste!
Or you Norwegians needed to Google it more than anyone else, perhaps? The US does also have a much more sizable population spread out over a larger landmass. Different places, different likes, different people and all.

More than six might be unusual, but what's so great about guns? They just make loud noises and hurt people. Plus they're in video games anyway, so they ain't got nothing.

First of all guns do not hurt people, people hurt people. Its how use it. Guns are just tools you can use them for good or for evil. Plus they are inanimate objects. Just saying. Anyway I'm mad that America is so low on the statistic stats. Come on America :sadvaultboy: !

Can't really blame us, we're thrilled that Skyrim (as a fictional region) looks so familiar to (in a stereotypical way) Norway.

This

Americans typically like stupid bull crap (hence Jersey Shore)
Not that all Americans do. I live in Kansas and I hate football, guns, drugs, getting drunk, etc.

But the majority here is more into stupid crap and the only video games that appeal to them are Call of Duty, Killzone, Gears of War, etc.

Why does liking American football, six, or guns make you stupid?

I know sometimes people are desperate to take a jab at Americans any way they can, but come on now.....we're talking about video games here.

Not sure where all this hate for six, football and guns come from. I also don't seem the get that if you don't like RPGs than you're obviously stupid. Calling anyone stupid because they don't share the same interests as you comes off very petty and sad. Far from intelligent, imo.

FYI: the data from Google Trends can reflect interest spikes due to region-specific media coverage.

For example, if a Swedish magazine publishes a recent Skyrim article, you will likely see a spike in interest from Swedish web searches, or if this data was taken closer to the GI article getting released, it would likely skew higher towards the US, etc.

As such, I would be VERY wary about making any "nation X likes Skyrim more than nation Y" statements based on this trends data. No professional researcher would do that without a lot more information.

I have deleted a number of posts from the thread. Please do not country bash or categorize peoples in a rude and vulgar manner.

I don't need Google to search the thread and weed out those that do. :stare:

This is a very interesting graph for sure ! But we should not jump to conclusions that it accurately depicts who's interested in Skyrim, it just shows who uses google to search for Skyrim. There are many factors to consider.

what other search engines are used and how are they used.

how many people have already known how to go directly to gamesas website.

how many people that searched using google are completely new to TES and never heard of it.

A lot of people use Google or other search engines when they are searching for something for the first time.

but like I said...this is still very interesting.

I'm from Atlanta so. gooooooooo Hotlanta !!!!!

No...
Morrowind was a big game in Sweden. Oblivion a very big one too.
At least that's what I know, based on my experiences.

Most of my friends, mostly casual, have played Oblivion. Quite a few have played Morrowind as well. They are very popular games here and have been for many many years.

Playing around on Google Trends, I decided to see how Skyrim ranked up. Google Trends is simply a feature that looks at search terms and compares them region by region against all regions that have searched for that term. So, what you see is which places have Googled Skyrim the most. That does not truly equate with level of care, but it is a sign of greater interest among regions. There are three categories, which are Country, City, and Language. I'm going to exclude language because it's just a localization thing that doesn't matter considering Skyrim is the same in all languages. The results are interesting.

http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv175/Proditus/Skyrim-1.jpg

And there we have it. Norway is full of Elder Scrolls fans, and America doesn't seem to care as much as everyone else.

What do you all think? :P

Whoah! Slow down before you give people wrong ideas. You forgot to take into account that people have different "google habits". Some will go through search engines all the time, and some will only find a single info site (like this forum) and bookmark it to access it directly next time. And with a relevant title like Skyrim, the latter has a large chance of happening. So raw search query counts don't tell much in this case. :grad:

EDIT: tools like Google Trends are more reliable for encyclopdia-style content, such as how many people looked up the term "Desert fossils".

Being from the Pacific Northwest of the USA, this was somewhat interesting,

However, the truth will be told when we see a similar type charting of actual sales.

Bottom line: It is good to see that TES and Skyrim, in particular, have such a world-wide following.
