Who is Chen?

Post » Mon Dec 27, 2010 11:59 pm

In the recent videos concerning the storyline of the game,( ) both sides refer to someone named Chen,( or Chez I couldn't hear it that well. ) From what I've seen, it appears this Chen is the one who starts the war on the Ark, that is to the Security, he began protests that soon became violent riots. While the Resistance see him as a leader having no option but to fight back against the Security. It's clear that he ( or her, i mean you never know, right? ) has something to do with the storyline, but who is this person, and who else may be a key part of the story? Any guesses or statements?

Each faction has a leader, Chen is the name of the Resistance leader.

Brother Chen - Resistance
Captain Mokoena - Security

"These logs will provide the inner thoughts of the leaders of the two factions, Captain Mokoena, leader of Security forces, and Brother Chen from the Resistance."

This interesting since he keeps all the various Resistance groups in line. I had figured them from a homogenous group so that is interesting to note.

Makes sense for a Resistance to be divided up. Like real terrorists, revolutionaries, and spies - they often refer to the smaller groups as "cells" when they're well-organised.

But a smart leader would put people from those factions together with like-minded individuals, so the same order, presented the same way, implying the same objective (which fits their own reasons for joining) can be given to a single cell - and the cells would be mostly unable to communicate directly with one another - for "security of information" - they're told it's to prevent the enemy learning their plans, but it's more because they don't want the friendlies to turn on one another or the leaders when they realise they're not all being told the same story...

OOOH thanks for the clarification. Hmmm, reading that article it reminds me a lot of Bioshock with Atlas and Ryan, Liberator vs Grand Leader. Both are suppose to be seen as good guys but have their own dark stories they hide? Yeah i heard that in the videos too. This makes the story mode a lot more interesting for me, gahh 20 days is so far away :banghead:

This. Good leaders, as history has proven, know how to appeal to all kinds of people, and it would make perfect sense that the Resistance is comprised of different subfactions that have differing ideals and goals.

Mokoena is mentioned in the Resistance opening cutscene too, for reference on how to pronounce it. Also, is Mokoena an African name?

By the sounds of it, Chen is an influential figure in the Resistance, and Marco (?) is an influential figure in the Security.

I had always pegged the Resistance as more of an armed truce at best and outright factionism at the worst of times. Never really thought that a group of freedom fighters using equipment they more then likely stole from another Resistance member or Security officer could have one specific leader.

Also guys I don't think the Resistance is the organized underground militia force you think it is. They are talking about how Chen began with protests and then moved forward, that suggests to me an open revolt of more common men then trained terrorists. Hell even look at the recent cutscene we were given, that guy in the construction outfit spoke about how he had been making breakfast for his kids a bare hour ago. That doesn't sound like a hardened and prepared insurgent to me. Even the older male in that cutscene that inspired the construction worker sounded more like a man that had run out of options as opposed to a revolutionary.

This.
The Enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I see the resistance as a untie for now, then we'll all go our separate ways. Each trying to fine his own land mass and then have their faction carve out their own existence.

Honestly the Resistance is a lot groups under one banned. A recent interview says the reason Chen is amazing is that he is keeping all these groups together. Some want a change of the status quo, some more water, some to overthrow the founders. This is what I meant in my earlier post.

Sorry about that, Chen is my dog. The little rascle keeps getting loose to terrorize Security operatives. Silly little guy!

Good comparison.

I think he's probably more like a modern near-future http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_the_Great though...
