So, who's disappointed with how Bethesda will handle DLC?

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 10:33 pm

Honestly, I liked the plug ins from Oblivion. Hopefully we will get an expansion. I think we will at least.

DLC is the new way of companies tricking gamers.I'm absolutely not buying anything smaller than SI.
What I'd like to have is actual expansions like Tribunal and Bloodmoon.Even SI isn't on the same category as them IMO.

Im a little disappointed, but not too much. Most I heard, they weren't going to do other regions as add-ons.

My thread relates a little to this. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1174412-realm-of-your-choice/page__gopid__17341380#entry17341380

The business model of the industry is now the microtransaction and I blame the "gamers" who buy these inferior products. (See horse armour for Oblivion) Game companies will continue to nickel and dime you to death as long as you keep buying these tiny DLC's masquerading as expansions. Stop buying garbage and the industry will stop producing it. Pretty simple really.

I agree that it is a trend in the industry to release loads of tiny little features that could have made it in the original game easily. I'd be disappointed if Bethesda won't release a big expansion like Shivering Isles.

I would only bother with DLC that adds to the experience of the overall game not something gaudy like a li'l extra mission or a few more weapons. I haven't downloaded much dlc in my time. DLC that is planned post game release takes forever to come out anyway, I say why not just work on an expansion that is worth the wait that fans will rave about. T'is only me?

Is this a clear decision or just a few words taken out of a context? I really hope they will make one or two BIG expansions for Skyrim, I mean come on, this is Tes, this is epic, this is a game of hundreds of hours and great level of content, additional content should be as epic as it gets. Let the other companies sell small pieces of nothing for $3 each. For me epic is anything equal or bigger than Tribunal.

I want expansions. Who the hell came up with the bite-sized DLC and replaced expansions with them? They seem rushed and barely have any depth, scope, or content. Just when I think I'm starting to scratch the surface of a Fallout 3 DLC, it ends abruptly and hastily while the technical quality of the DLC themselves is also quite terrible. Most games have even smaller, more annoyingly rushed DLC. We pay more for expansions, don't we? They have a significantly larger team, now, don't they? What is the problem?

The smallers ones were okay in Fallout, but I think it would kinda svck in TES to have small things like that.

As long as they don't cut anything out of the game and release it as a "DLC", I am okay with anything. Though I really liked the Shivering Isles and Bloodmoon.

This is the Elder Scrolls not Fallout 3. Fallout 3 can survive without an expansion and so can Skyrim but how does Skyrim become a GOAT if it doesn't have an Expansion Pack similar to The Shivering Isles, Bloodmoon/Tribunal.

I am not a fan of the DLC concept. To me they are meaningless add ons that never give the same experience as the original game.

Nearly all of the DLC content I've tried I've lost interest in before finishing. The one exception was the nights of the nine. I did get to the end of that one, but was left feeling let down some how. I tried all of the fallout 3 DLC s and lost interest in them too. Dead money included.

I really like to do my thing while I'm playing and being forced to do something, and losing my gear in the process, isn't fun for me.

Unless there is a decent expansion to the main game that gives me the freedom to play my way, I think I'll just pass on the DLC content for about every game I buy.

What I haven't heard mentioned was Beth's rationale for this. One large downside to releasing these expansions is that it takes manpower and time that would otherwise be spent on the next game. I do prefer expansions to DLCs in things like the Elder Scrolls because the games are meant to be large and open-ended. However, i wouldn't mind them spending more time developing the next game instead.

I'm not a fan of this generation's DLC at all. However, I do love full expansions, a la Bloodmoon and Tribunal.

If you can't do something meaningful, don't do it at all.

I think the results of this poll should open Bethesdas eyes to this concept. I bet a lot of us are still playing oblivion and Morrowind with the Expansions and thats the point!
im very disappointed by their decision and i hope they reconsider at whats at stake! :tes: to :swear: and then :brokencomputer:

I've been going on about this ever since Oblivion. I think DLC is terrible. Most get bad reviews and are quite over priced for what they offer. I really REALLY hate the developers who make the game but have a portion of the code locked when it is shipped and consumers can pay to have the code they already have unlocked. It is just so underhanded and backwards, it sickens me that people actually buy those things.

Of course, not all DLC is just an unlocked portion of code. I think I have bought ONE DLC ever. For supreme commander 2, the $10 infinite pack which added units and maps and technology. A mini-expansion.

I yearn for the days of the good old expansion pack. How I miss them. A game should be a completely different animal after an expansion pack. If you take away the DLC and you don't even notice save for a little gun or armour you have, what was the point?

This poll is bias.

Any DLC is fine by me. Just because it's BIGGER doesn't mean it's BETTER. What a concept.

Is this a clear decision or just a few words taken out of a context?

Somewhere here there's a thread with a link to the OXM podcast interview featuring Pete Hines. About 20 minutes of that is about DLC and they seem pretty inclined to smaller DLC because making a big one "takes too long".

Fallout 3/NV have good DLC regardless of their relatively small size. While a larger expansion like Bloodmoon, Tribunal, and Shivering Isles would be nice, I'd be perfectly happy with a bundle of smaller DLC areas. More Elder Scrolls is always a good thing.

Like Pete said, making a full expansion takes too much time and you're better off releasing DLCs while the game is still played by a maximum of people. Also, a steady flow of DLC releases make gamers keep their game instead of trading it, which means less people will be able to buy a pre-owned copy.

No elder scrolls fan would ever trade a TES game. You trade in crappy sports games, not a TES game. :toughninja:

Any DLC is fine by me. Just because it's BIGGER doesn't mean it's BETTER. What a concept.

Not indefinitely.. but most of the time bigger does = better when it comes to addons for TES.

I wouldn't mind so much as long as they have them out quickly, and they are roughly equal in size to point lookout.
