Just who does Justin Ayo think he is having the nerve to say that I am not a scientist? I have all ranks of the science perk, all the ranks int he robotics expert perk, and even a little bit of chemistry knowledge. I am too a scientist.....[censored].

Everytime he badmouths meat the directorate meeting I quicksave, blow his head off, then reload my save. When I got banished so I could go with the Minutemen, I flung a Nuka grenade at him.

FYI you can have him banished to the surface if you so choose.

Unfortunately there isn't any dialogue available for your character to specify this knowledge based on the perks you've chosen.

Which is a shame because I liked doing that in previous games. Which could even come with benefits for certain quests.

But you aren't a scientist. Skilled though you are, you do not spend your days holed up in a lab anolyzing pee samples or building monsters. You could, you have the credentials to, but just choose a more interesting life. That's the sound of jealousy you hear.

Well if you aren't siding with them why bother? He'll get sent to the surface or outright killed then anyway.

Its the fact of the matter that I am a scientist, I am the future head of the institute (They don't know if I will betray them) and that he will respect my authority! I want my credentials to be recognized. Whether that be as a scientist or a professional bad ass.

Then why actually name the perks after real scientific jobs ? You never know, they could reflect your job prewar. I think If I can make water purifiers, electric generators, and highly sophisticated defense systems, then that qualifies me as a scientist. Not all scientists have ever even been recognized until after they were dead. I would argue that if you do something science related you can say you're a scientist.

He was high on my list of "People I want to shoot in the face just because they annoy me". Him and the Codmans in Diamond City.

That's just a perk name, a skill you have that's named so we'd recognise it's function. It's not exactly the same as getting a diploma or dedicating your life to research, it just means that you have inherant ability to do those things if you so choose. People who were later considered to be scientists are those who either made significant breakthroughs or dedicated enough of their life trying.


I mean, I could happen to have a latent musical talent that I don't know about, but you wouldn't call me a musician even if that talent happens to become useful in other ways that aren't immediately obvious. Even if I found I could play an instrument easily, I wouldn't be a musician unless it was something I did reasonably often as a major hobby or profession. Playing a tune on one random night in the basemant wouldn't suffice even if the skill was always there.

This bothered me to when I joined the Institute. I wish their was a dialogue option to put him in his place after he said that.

You're comparing the ability to pick up a guitar and maybe be able to pick up a few chords easily to making explosives, modifying complicated weapons, power armor..... thats apples and oranges.

Seriously. I have all of the ranks in armorer, blacksmith, medic, gun nut, scrapper, science, hacker and robotics. I'm probably more qualified than he is. I was also wearing an armored version of Cabbot's lab coat during this conversation.

Ayo is really a synth who's protocol does not recognize your perks. =P
