So Who Else Is Going To Go Into Hibernation?

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:52 pm

Well, after digesting the tasty Fan Interview and spending the day reviewing all the topics made on it, I can happily say that I am satisfied and this shall be my last post (until 11/11/11 that is.)

I gotta say, I've had a blast browsing and contributing to this awesome Skyrim forum ever since I joined back in Feb., 2011 (Yes, I'm a newb.) Still, it was great waiting on that countdown for the first Skyrim gameplay trailer, discussing the Kahjiit and Orc screenshots, going through the waves of threads on Attributes being cut, and of course eagerly anticipating the E3 videos. It was fantastic.

Bah, enough nostalgia, this isn't what this thread is about, it's really about whether any of you fellow forumates are doing the same thing? Are you guys/gals going to take a break from here for awhile? Did that Fan Interview satisfy you? Or are you waiting for the possible part 2, 3, 4, etc.?

I've had my fill, and (cheesy closing statement incoming) this big 'Ol bear has had enough honey, I'm going to go into hibernation. 'Twas fun. I hope you guys will enjoy Skyrim as much as I will :)

If the Q and A had satisfied me, I probably would have left.

I think I'm with you on this one, OP.

As for the Q&A I'm on the fence. Before that I was with the "they're making innovative gameplay changes to make complex systems more accessible and fun" camp. After the Q&A I'm leaning toward the "this is looking like a feature-scarce, streamlined button mashing fest" camp.

Now here's the thing. I love the Elder Scrolls series. I love Bethesda's take on Fallout. I basically like pretty much everything about Bethesda as a company (looking in from an outsider's perspective). I want Skyrim to be better than I think it is based upon my gut feelings today after the fan interview thing.

So my solution, I think, is the same as yours even though our gut reactions differ somewhat. I'm going to take a break. They're going to remain tight-lipped for several more weeks at least. We'll get a second batch of questions in August probably when features and gameplay systems are more set in stone. Until then it's dry times and basically just worrying over small stuff that really won't matter in the long run and nitpicking the hell out of every little scrap somebody manages to find. I'd honestly rather spend that time playing Oblivion or Fallout or Minecraft (Minecraft might just be the best game sandbox ever made. I really, really mean that. It is amazing).

I'm going to let things simmer here and I'll return once a month to read the Q&As. In late October I'll show up and participate again because by that time we'll actually have enough information to discuss and with which to make some predictions.

So have a great summer, all. Keep your spears sharpened, your spheres rounded, your dragon parties within legal limits and your beasts appropriately courted before you marry them. See you when the chill hits.

I have already built a 3 foot deep circular path that leads all the way around the earth. Now I just need Bethesda to come out with a matrix version of the game so I can hibernate while doing this.

I'm staying. Someone on this forum has to have a shred of optimism, gotta counter the 'the devs are lazy' nonsense that gets spouted. Plenty of people with gripes, most of them intelligent, and with good reasons for their apprehensions, but not all. I'll swear some people's only reason for posting is to slag off BGS. If you hate the team that much, why stay on the forum?

I'm not completely quitting but I am definitely going to be posting a lot less from now on. I started losing interest after E3 but the fan Q&A was the final deathblow. Every time we find a new piece of information or interview I learn something about the game which greatly disappoints me. So rather than constantly being disappointing about different aspects of the game up until 11/11/11 I'm just going to wait until after release to view is as a whole.

I had planned on pre-ordering the CE but now I'm going to wait at least a week after release for reviews to see if Skyrim is even worth it.

This thread piqued my interest. I was going to "Go Dark" but the Q & A didn't answer my questions.

Whether its because people on here are so good at digging and prediction or just lucky but most of the question they answered have been speculated and kinda proved (apart from the marriages thing, which is approaching Fable's domain...not a good direction) already.

I will wait until I see a decent game play video with no moronic presenter asking stupid questions, no Todd talking over it. Just a decent bit of pure gameplay. As if you were to pick the controller up and do it yourself.

Then I shall go dark.

I`m in with the hibernating posse as well
I had hibernated from the beth forums since after Morrowind (when i had my old account), came back for a while before Oblivion was released and then got bored with it all, then the news of Skyrim..damn well svcked me back again :tes:

The excitement/hype side kind of died out for me a while ago, now i`m content to just wait till release day. I know i will get this game for sure on release and am fairly happy with how it seems to have panned out.
The Q&A provided enough little snippets of info to keep me happy - tavern brawls and the smithing system - yay!!

I find reading these forums kinda depressing to be honest, the negativity and [censored]ing at each other, meh. I`ll have an occasional look on for any new info every so often but certainly won`t be glued on here. Between real life, work and games still to be played, well, more than enough to keep my mind off what might or might not be included in a game.

Like you say OP, i`ve had my fill for now

Now I want to leave because I'm afraid they're going to announce that armor will only have skill bonuses as modifiers to make the game easier to get into, or something like that

I'm not sure I have the energy to keep reading and posting in the very many very similar topics that keep coming up.
I shall keep an eye on this forum for whatever titbits of info come up but mostly I shall be playing games until I get Skyrim.

I had thought about it. But after today's QaA I guess I have to stay. Someone has to counter all the 'Less armor.. but hey they said it will make the game better' people and post some logical sens.(Honestly, no offense, but what kind of logic is that?)
But I will mostlikely pay a lot less attention because the game has really started to alienate me.(I have nothing against beth, infact I am a huge fan of the company and thier games, only days ago I was in great support of it.. but I can't truthfully say that recent news have worried me greatly, there really seems to be a lack of.. 'inovation')

Can't sleep, too many trolls...trolls going to eat me....Looking for interesting topics to discuss interesting things with interesting people
*Sees topic "OMG Fast Travel Game Ruined Forever"
Ghaaaaa!!!

I mostly stay for the cooking topics. We hardly know anything about it, it's fun to speculate, and people in the cooking topics seem to be nicer.

I'm seriously considering it. Just leaving the forums alone until after release. The atmosphere has gotten really negative around here as of late, with all the people complaining about things though they haven't even played the game yet and all.

It's a tempting concept. I doubt I would forsake this forum until November, but I might check in just occasionally until the next batch of screenshots/video/dev info is released.

Between juicy dev tidbits the forum gets almost unbearable - topics fall into the following categories:

1. Someone asking about information that's already been confirmed
2. Debating game systems which are already set in stone
3. Rehashing tired topics (mods on consoles, can my PC run it, werewolves/vampires, race/character polls, etc.)

With any given new thread there is roughly a 6% chance it will present anything even remotely interesting for discussion.

Pretty much the same thing here... I've been thinking about it but i don't have much to occupy my until 11/11/11. One main reason is because i'm very well getting sick and tired of the negative feedback on possible and confirmed content.

No one in these forums have even played the game, all we saw was barely even a fraction of gameplay and when they see something they won't or might not like they act all pessimistic about it and start posting pointless topics about it.

Also, i'm planning on taking my leave a week before release because trolls are gonna post spoilers in the thread titles like (example) "DUMBLEDORE DIES".
