Who else here wants Skyrim to be like Morrowind?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:29 am

I would like Skyrim to resemble Morrowind in terms of indepth worldbuilding and sense of wonder. But more so, I want Skyrim to be Skyrim, on its own merits, whatever those might be.

I want Skyrim to be its own game, that can stand on its own merits without having to draw a million parallels to the other games. Personally I think every Elder Scrolls game has something that deserves to be kept throughout the series.

I love the look and color of the letters that spell out "Skyrim" in the trailer.

Me too. It has this cold, ominous, mythic feel to it. If it makes you feel better OP, the "The Elder Scrolls" subtitle is identical to the one they used for Morrowind. :P

Morrowind was the absolute best Elder Scrolls, hands down. It had a huge open world, emense creativity, etc.

They should bring that back.

Bring back the ability to levitate
Bring back the Dark Elves true voices (not the wimpy sounding ones from Oblivion)
Bring back the huge ammounts of spells
Bring back the huge ammounts of armor and weapons
Bring back the towns with no loading screens required to enter

But don't bring back the "wave your sword like an idiot until you kill the scrib" combat lol

BRING BACK SCRIBS!

I don't think levitation should be brought back, gives much more space for world creation.
Dark Elven true voices? They sound like in the curse, along with black skin they also got glottis cancer.
Town with no load screens will make your performance MUCH lower. Like this they can shoot it in another cell which gives them much more room for detailing the place.

Also, scribs and all other critters are Vvanderfell exclusives, because of the location.

Aside from that, hands down too. I love Morrowind but I'm sick of this crap, I want Skyrim to be something new, otherwise I mod and play Morrowind.

Yeah, I thought we'd gotten rid of the condescending arrogance of MW fans after Oblivion had been out a fews years and here it is rearing its ugly head again. /sigh

Also, you may say what you like, but it was not arrogance in question. It was how Oblivion was degraded in many gameplay and design aspects. (I'm not talking about action part of the game, that was actually a huge improvement over Morrowind).

I want Skyrim to be Skyrim. I would rather the game forge it's own amazing legacy than try simply to live up to it's predecessors.

The art for this game, in general, just seems great, in my opinion. That's only from what I've seen, but the metallic silver look they used for the Imperial Symbol and the game's name as well as the detailed stone slab in the background of the trailer have me excited. There's something about it that just... clicks.

Yeah. A while back there was a thread about what a possible TES V logo would look like, and assuming the game would be set in Skyrim, I said I'd imagine it being a sharp, Celtic font that's cold like steel and possibly frosted at the bottom. Not too far off the mark. Also, the mural itself reminds me of Civilization V's introduction in some respects, if that makes sense. Don't know why.

I see what you mean by the Civilization comparison. I think it's due to both the Roman numeral and the similar font style, but that's just my guess.

I don't think we should compare games with other games, I mean none of the elder scrolls are alike and I would like to keep it that way.

I want story depth like Morrowind, but graphics and other effects better than Oblivion. Skyrim will be something totally different, and (I hope) something new and, dare I say, glorious (as far as a game can be)? Interaction with NPCs in Oblivion felt superficial and less involved than in Morrowind, and I hope the designers bring that back for Skyrim. They tried some different things in Oblivion - some stuff worked, and some didn't. I'm trusting that the designers looked at the reactions to the changes, made notes, and Skyrim will be improved over both games.

There was something about Morrowind that I loved and was missing in Oblivion. I just hope whatever it was it's back in Skyrim.

Perhaps its persistence means its more than just a bandwagon phase.

And I think this topic should be renamed to

"Who else here wants Skyrim to be more like Morrowind than Oblivion?"

Because ultimately, the game is going to, for sure, pay homage to both games and take some inspiration as well.

Or, perhaps, it means that Oblivion is the most recent released Elder Scrolls game, and so comparisons between it and its immediate predecessor are inevitable. As for which way the bias leans, point me to one gaming community where there's a slant toward "OMG NEWER GAME IS SO MUCH BETTER OLDER GAME svckS!!!" Besides possibly Two Worlds :P

Haha, been doing well. Taking a break from giving [censored] a piece of my mind to focus on school and whatnot. I couldn't resist coming back, though, I have been waiting with bated breath for this announcement since last year :P A little terrified of what the forums will be like once the masses get their hands on the game, though :flamethrower: :obliviongate:

I have a feeling Skyrim will be unique. They have been developing the game for 3-4 years after all :)

people are refering to the imersive ness and scaling of the game.. and how almost every mission on oblivion was to take something here or go get something from there

Bring back scribs. Once doing that, they should make every monster a scrib. Make the boss a giant scrib that goes nom nom nom nom in the dialogue and it paralyzes you for 100 secs. The battle will go on for like a year because it will keep on paralyzing you.

Jiub should come back in a vision at the start asking you your name. trolololol.

Although Oblivion is my favourite game of the series, my fondest memories are from Morrowind. I hope they get rid of the quest compass and construct the towns as beautifully as they did in Morrowind. Other than that, I want a new experience, though not one that strays too far from the classic Elder Scrolls formula.

Yes why not let Skyrim be set in Vardenfell, and copy every single quest while just improving the graphics...

No. I want Skyrim to be Skyrim. I hope... nah I think... nah I KNOW that Skyrim will be the best TES game so far. For me at least.

I would hope that they take all the best elements of the previous games and learn from past mistakes too. Skyrim will be Skyrim, but obviously the past games will always have influence on some of the aspects of the new game.

I still think my scrib overhaul should be implemented into the game...

Why dont they allow it so once you do a certain thing, you can become a monster?
