Who else "lives" another life in Morrowind?

After much reflecting and soul-searching, I have come to the realization why I absolutely love Morrowind. It is, quite literally, the perfect game. This is the only game that I have found where I can, effectively, live another life and never run out of things to do or places to see. I have been playing this game since early 2004, modding since 2005 and am currently running 50+ mods that are not specific to any one character (LGNPC, Assassins Armory, BUUL, UL, ROHT [My housing mod for every character TELVANNI FOR LIFE], Melian's Teleport, etc) and I STILL havent done any of the religious quests, Hlaalu, Morag Tong (currently doing that now) Thieves (Ditto), or East Empire Company.

Anyways, back to the point. I find that Morrowind, unlike any other game, is the game that I come home and immerse myself in. I care about the world, I care about myself in that world. No other game has even come close to Morrowind.

Anyone else have similar feelings or am I bat**** crazy?

I feel the same way. I started playing Morrowind back in 2003. It pulled me in like no other game before or since and all these years later there are still things I haven't done and places I haven't seen. Morrowind is easily the most immersive game I have ever played, and the only game where I actually do feel like I'm living another life. For all the effort to make Oblivion and Skyrim's worlds feel alive neither game has Morrowind's immersion factor.

I know what you mean although that feeling of immersion has worn off for me over time, but I still find myself totally svcked in at times and always have loads of fun playing regardless after all these years (also been playing since it came out). And yeah, still sooo much to do.

Only other game that topped that immersion factor was a NWN persistent server I used to play. :geek:

I more or less did some time ago, but nowadays not that often. At best Morrowind has felt "more than a game" for sure.

My own sentiments aren't quite as strong, but I know what you mean. I've had characters "set up house" in one of the old Dunmer fortresses, or in a Great House stronghold, and essentially go out every couple of days to "adventure" or to sell off loot, either as a brief outing and back in the same day, or else a 2-3 day long excursion into the wastes or the less-accessible interior. Between trips, the character works on building furniture (mainly more storage), cooking meals for the next outing, whipping up a few more potions and dabbling with an enchantment idea or two, and generally maintaining the steadily improving complex that passes for home.

I've synchronized the character's schedule and day length to correspond to the roughly 2-3 hours that I generally have available (8:1 timescale), so the character gets up, "lives" his day, and catches some shut-eye about the same time that I'm ready to call it a night myself. Save, and the character is ready for the next time that I decide to fire up the PC.

It worked for about a month in Oblivion, until I got bored with the scaling and the lack of meaningful improvement, etc. FO3 never gave me that "home" feeling, and I can't think of another game that did what Morrowind did and still does (thanks in a large degree to the work of a multitude of modders).

ooh ooh, I do! It is like a personal sactuary - actually helps me relax and feel less stressed out. I love having a dedicated morrowind day every once in a while - no work - no girlfriend - just an absolute [censored] ton of morrowind, some smokey stuff, junk food, and coffee - my ultimate chilled out day.

skyrim and oblivion are veritable husks compared to this cornucopia of juicy rpg goodness.

On a random note - Anyone find the game takes on a slightly melancholic vibe since knowing the terrible fate of the land? Adds to the atmopshere somehow

Totally, Avwandle! TESIII is a game I immerse myself so deeply in that I've written chapters upon chapters of background and biography for my character and her experience in the world of Morrowind. It really is another world which you can escape to and be somebody else and live another life. Morrowind is a game you can play for a lifetime.
