I don't think people are making up the bugs. I mean, maybe a couple, but for the most part, no. I don't think people are reacting to them reasonably, though. Maybe it's because I've been a gamer for a looong time and I've seem many releases that were worse than this...I dunno. I do know what it's like to get a game you were looking forward to and then be really disappointed and angry when you can't run it or it doesn't run well. I was pretty red-faced for a few minutes when I got Mass Effect 2 and it wouldn't even install correctly. I just walked away, grabbed a beer, and calmed down. It's not the end of the world. I got it to install a couple of days later...turns out the installer puked under certain circumstances on machines with more than one DVD drive, and with some fiddling I was able to work around it.
For people that can't run the game at all it's a big let-down. I've been in that position a few times, but not recently. Luckily, these issues will be fixed. If you look back at the release of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 crashes and being unable to run the game were REALLY common when those games were first released. Netimmerse/Gamebryo seems like a really picky engine...it doesn't seem like it takes much to pull the rug out from under it.
So far the only bugs I've seen have simple workarounds, but I don't doubt people having other (more difficult) issues. This is a high-profile game release, though, so I really doubt Bethesda is going to drag their feet on getting things fixed. In the meantime, it stinks for some of us, but there's no use in giving yourself a heart-attack over it.
