Who else thinks that walking

Just something I felt. I've had plenty of experiences with it (because I often found myself over-encumbered), and although its a bit of a hassle, in some instances my character just seemed to rock the coolness factor while doing it.

For example, I was riding my horse near Markarth when an Argonian bandit of sorts attacked me. I dismounted my horse, and slowly walked towards him. He preferred to send ice spikes my way, and there was no possible way for me to ever catch him, as encumbered as I was. So instead I raised Spellbreaker and just kept walking forward. His spells bounced right off Spellbreaker, thanks to my high shielding and enchantment abilities. He kept retreating and firing more, but I kept slowly advancing, patient as always. Finally, he found his back at a cliff, overlooking a raging river below. Seemingly, though perhaps it was my imagination, he became more desperate, firing off spells even more quickly than usual. And I just kept slowing advancing. Soon I was in flamethrower range. Then mace-range. Then finally shield range. Faced with the possibility of melee, the bandit whipped out dual daggers which he clanged uselessly on my impenetrable defenses. Suddenly my shield hit him, staggering him for just a moment. Just a moment long enough to see me drop my shield---finally, I was open---but not long enough for him to do anything about it.

FUS ROH DAH!

Heh, it's like you're an unstoppable juggernaut. Obviously its not great for most character builds, but it does make you feel like a total badass. More so than running all the time, anyway.

EDIT: Also, the shield tree has the best perks. Period.

That sounds fun as hell.

I'm using Warhammers this go-through, but I'd love to switch back to sword-and-shield next character for almost exactly this reason.

I disagree
nothing as fearsome as a nord charging at you with his waraxe raised ready for a critical strike power attack

That sounds awesome. Walking definitely makes things more dramatic. If you've played god of war it's exactly like the Hermes confrontation. Death looming. Good post.

Nothing beats the look of getting out of Invisibility while walking toward the target, and charging up my kamehameha and seeing the target melt, followed by slowly walking away and going invisible again.

All while wearing the kickass-looking shrouded robes.

Haha good story telling :) I could definitely picture it

You get to take in the landscape a lot more when walking. And don't get surprised anywhere near as much when moving slowly or cautiously. I like that with a controller, I can control the speed between barely moving and full-running, can't do that with a keyboard to the same degree.

I feel like a rushing-berserking warrior would inspire the same amount of fear as the slow-yet-inexorable advancement of doom...

There is one thing more terrifying, an Orc doing that. You Nords and your soft pink flesh are never fearsome.

I loved reading this. Lol

I love the walk animation, and walking is more realistic and badass than running all the time...

I just wish that i could have the willpower to walk more... i'm not a patient guy.. lol

EDIT: Also i loved how you kinda roleplayed and used your imaginating when the guy started to throw spells faster, like if he was desesperate, because he was in the "Border" of a cliff and he knew you were coming for him.. He was kinda like: "Oh [censored]!"

I walked from Whiterun to Riften while over encumbered. I encountered several bears and multiple dragons, two hours later I made it. What an adventure, its good to have a follower to cover your back aswell.

I just do it cuz it's what I'd do if I were my character. I can't relate to jocks, and it's beyond me how someone could run up a hill to face some unknown or to run miles back home after fighting a dragon!
