who else is trying to pretend they don't know about this?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:13 am

Seriously, this early and all this hype? I made a mistake with New Vegas, I kept my nose to my screen, reading every news article, listening to every podcast. I got hyped at all the rumors, and things that may be in the game. Then it was a let-down (Except the radio). Wheras, I had never heard of Bethesda, until I saw a friend playing Fallout 3, which I bought along with Oblivion. I enjoyed those games, because I knew so little about them, wheras with New vegas, I got bored after 1 playthrough, because I knew everything else. Yea, I know its my own fault for reading into it, but who else is refusing to look into Skyrim? This is the second time ive been on this forum, and all I know is the trailer is kick-ass, it comes out sometime in november (I know it says 11/11/11, but incidents can happen) and alot of people are crying about spears.

tl;DR, who all is sitting here, trying to resist looking into Skyrim? In fact why am I even here? This place has a magnetic pull I swear. >.<

also, to make this topic less worthless, what's everyone doing to bide time till we get closer to the release?

Oblivion and Fallout are pretty different in terms of gameplay experience and longevity. I still* play Oblivion after 4 years. I put down Fallout after a couple months.

This.

And original poster, you can't turn away because you've been starved of new TES for four years haha, same as the rest of us. All this new info is irresistable.

Pretty similar topic and story to many people's past and present predicaments. But I realize what you mean.

I slightly did that with New Vegas aswell. Larger deal for me since I know it's hooks with many things from Fallout 2. Didn't ruin it but spoiled some stuff, not to mention I hoped NCR would be more so in Caesar's Legions shoes as more of a menace to the region.

Anyways yeah definitely, ongoing with me as I try but fail not to read Deus Ex Human Revolution info. Althoug I've read Skyrim's info too.

Trick is to keep yourself busy with your life, friends, girl/boyfriend, whatever sports etc. Hobbies you play.

And of coarse interesting games.

Even when you get on the internet you can distract yourself from checking up on news and spoilerific previews by IMing, checking up sports.

Maybe even join/do an RP forum or game. There's established sites like BYOND where a thriving community separately creates vast genres of games. Sometimes even whole rip offs.

There's a lot of RPG games using hand made or stolen sprites or icons from GBA games or stuff like Chrono Trigger. Those kill time fast.

I'm passing the time by watching this video, which is a comedy about passing the time playing other games that aren't TES games whiling waiting for other TES games to come out..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9eGtyqz4gY&hd=1

But seriously, I'm playing NEHRIM now, a huge Total Conversion Mod for Oblivion that is set in a new world, and the Mod is awesome, better than Oblivion in every way, and has been programmed from the ground up to include things like 64-bit and Multi-Core Support for even faster and smoother operation at 60FPS while sporting ALL of the retextured mods for better environments. It's the best solution to not having Skryim. I've played for 20 hours and am now just only getting started and never seen two dungeons that were the same yet.

These guys who made it are awesome!

I think the main thing to focus on here is that neither Fo3 OR New Vegas were on brand spanking new engines. Also neither had been in production for 5+ years. I'm pretty sure we will be incredibly happy with the game we get in 10 months.

honestly? I got to into it before it was released. When I finaly got it, I could barely bring myself to play it. YEs its a great game, but the hype killed it for me

wait....wut? Thats actually what im doing to myself in a sense. Instead of hitting Skyrim like an all you can eat buffet like I did with New Vegas, i'm sitting back and picking at a salad, hoping noone runs over yelling "ZOMG, GUESS WHAT IS IN SKYRIM?" Cuz i'll have to stab them in the throat with my eating utensil. >.> I dont wanna screw myself over by overhyping myself

You can gather every single bit of info on Skyrim and not have it dissapoint. The problem only occurs when you make up your mind and have expectations in some form about it. If you have no expectations then you are free to enjoy how things turn out.

Hey, Deus Ex. I'm a mod for that game, which is funny, because I've been one of it's most vocal critics (Notably in the case of third-person sequences and auto-regenerating health). It's not a fail because the info is ruining the game's surprise, it's because all the info for the game is tragic. lol

What I was trying to say is, New Vegas is TINY in comparision to Oblivion. Anything you hear about Skyrim will do absolotely nothing to shorten your gameplay, because it will own at life.

as long as they don't oversell it (like oblivion or the fable series), then i think we'll be fine.

You cant compare New Vegas to say Skyrim or Fallout 3. Both were more fun to play IMO but aside from my opinion you had one if the crappiest developers out there making that game. Obsidian gathers TERRIFIC ideas for a game and cannot follow up due to their ineptitude from a developemental standpoint. They have absolutely no technical savvy and delivered a very broken game on release date. That is strike 3 in my opinion. KOTOR 2 buggy , don't even get me started on alpha protocol, even GI gave the protaganist a "[censored] of the year award" alongside a crappy game. Plus My copy of NV was broken day one. Strike 3. They should not be making games anymore.

Honestly I think Zenimax was thinking of buying the Obsidian company but once saw how they handled NV the thought was "nope don't want that garbage"

I'd like to stop looking for info about Skyrim...I REALLY WANT TO!!!...but I simply can't!

I've ever swallowed the spoilers of how the history of our character begins...and I'm actually HAPPY about it. That's definitive proof that I need professional aid :)

at least they are being more careful this time. they are trying to avoid another "radiant AI" disaster so they are not commenting on certain things or flat out saying that they are looking at it but if it doesnt work well then they are not going to put it in.......personally id rather have them put it in if its something that a modder can fix at some point.

I guess I've finally gotten used to it. The hype used to really make me anxious to play a game and make the waiting harder.. But now that' it's happened so frequently I no longer have that anxious feeling. I get anxious about a week before the game comes out... and that week seems really long.

I knew everything about NV but when I got it I still loved it and I think I am on my third playthrough right now, but I do think that people will like the game better if they know nothing about it

I know full well that getting too excited will make me dissapointed, I'm okay with that. I like reading the new info when it comes out, I like discussing it with people. I'm a cynic at heart so I'm not expecting to have my mind completely blown anyway. I'm expecting to get a good game, maybe even a great game, only time will tell.

Another post blindly blaming Obsidian when it was the fault of Bethesda Softworks (the publisher) not giving Obsidian enough time to test by possibly delaying the game (they maybe had 3 weeks for bug testing before shipping it). You forget that Fallout 3 was in development since 2004 technically (4 years) and was still quite buggy upon release, while New Vegas started just after Fallout 3 in 2008 (2 years) and was maybe about as buggy. I'd say for the small amount of time they had, being able to make something that is bigger, and (in a lot of people's cases) better than Fallout 3 is quite an accomplishment.

Anyways, at the OP. I understand how that feels. That's how I felt with Fallout 3 because of all the hype. I played through it once, and never did so again.

As for joining the hype wagon, I'm not really. Sure, I'm sort of excited for the game, but not at the point where I'm drooling at the mouth every time I see the word "Skyrim". I find it helps to have a small amount of pessimism towards games these days, because if you're too optimistic and hyped about them, chances are the game is going to disappoint you as soon as you pop it in and play it. And I can tell you some of the really optimistic people on here will be some of the first ones making "SKYRIM svckZ OBLIVAN WUZ MUCH BETTR!!!" threads after the game releases.

New Vegas felt like a Fallout 3 dlc.

I was worried about overhyping oblivion and "knowing" too much about it before I got to play it myself, I watched every video and read every article, yet the game felt totally fresh once I got to try it myself, I prob played it for 500-1000 hours(thanks to mods).

Skyrim will be even greater no matter how much I look it up and hype it to myself pre-realease.

Hype and spoilers never bother me. The only thing that can hurt a game for me is it not living up to what came before it. Such as Fable 2. But even then I can enjoy a game for "what it is." So, no. I'll continue to consume all the new information about it and still play it for thousands of hours. :celebration:

I didn't like New Vegas to be honest.. I played it, and enjoyed it, but I still like Fallout 3 more. I did not know a thing about them before I played them, and yet because of some reason I didn't like NV. Neither can compete with Oblivion or Morrowind, for me, and yet a knew a lot about them...
