Who Else Used The Red Rocket as Their Base?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 7:38 pm

Ok, so I am deep into fallout 4 (Level 124) and I have to know: Did anyone else build a little village on the roof of the Red Rocket near Sanctuary? I made 2 prefab small shacks, and then I made a sniper nest. Which brings me to my next inquiry. Did anyone else go out of the way to make a long barrel for the short hunting rifle, and rename it "Ol' Painless" as a homage to my favorite FO3 DLC, The Pitt.

Man theres so much to do in this game, I'm still just trying to finish the main quest, then I'll go back and check out all the different settlements.

I used it as well. I haven't delved into the settlement system yet, but I loved having the ability to set my homestead up exactly as I'd like it. Add what I want, subtract what I don't. Just the right amount of storage and display.

I made a long barrel for the hunting rifle but I named it "The Coroner" because that's where it send the target.

You know what? That's not a bad idea. My first playthrough has been full on lone wanderer and I don't have much interest in the settlement building, at least not right now. The Red Rocket Truck Stop is a great place to set up shop. Thanks for the idea!

Probably going to have to steal your idea of build a bit on top.

God man. How the hell are you a 124. Have you not slept all week? Adderall much?

On another note, I've been building up Sanctuary. Coming along pretty nicely. Instant gratification when you see how nice your base comes out when the area is fully maxed out in terms of how much stuff you can build in the area.

I've been going around to each settlement that I've discovered so far and setting up machine gun turrets for them, so they have a little bit of defense if they get attacked.

I think my next settlements going to be at that old drive in

I'm only level 5 and I've already decided that it will be my main base, and I think I'm going to keep it to myself as well. Maybe a companion or two, but no settlers. Screw them, go find another home!

I'm playing the game as if it were me in there and well...screw it, I wanted to setup shop somewhere in solitary, that would be it. And if I ever found my son or created a new family, I would probably have a house nearby in Sanctuary for them, and keep them away from my private compound.

Obviously no.

I love that idea, so now I have something to shoot for. *rimshot*

I was building Sanctuary up until I took the Castle settlement. Then I moved all my Sanctuary settlers and companions to the Castle. I spent hours last night building defences and stores, it's currently at 16 settlers with 60 defence. I'm kinda running out of bed space at this point, I've filled the two barrack rooms up with beds already so I'm going to have to extend out if I wish to put any more than the 18 beds I currently have.

I'm using the red rocket as my main base of operations, I'm only level 16 though, I like taking my time as there is much to do.

Is it possible to set up home in a caravan somewhere? You know like in Into The Wild?

I know there are a few about in the wilderness but you can't edit them and I don't know how safe the storage would be.

I'm using the Red Rocket as my base, but only because I'm not currently working on building anything. The Red Rocket is great as a preset home base that you can perform some minor customization with, but a lot of the area is taken up by the building, which makes it a poor spot to actually build.

You aren't the only one. First thing tonight, is I visit Truck Stop and look around. No building it on top is great. I'll still build out Sanctuary. Cause i feel bad those poor slobs don't have clean water. Plus I need a place to trade.

On my second play through I used Red Rocket as my permanent base. Its the only place I do any crafting since there is no universal resource box and on my first character I got sick of constantly running around and gathering parts from various workshops. All I did was add some turrets, water, food and some beds and I send any followers there.

I've settled there as I wanted to get away from the settlers in Sanctuary. So I've done nothing to attract settlers and just want to keep it as a player house. Cleaned it up, moved the stations around, added some storage, etc. If raiders will leave it alone I'll not do much else with it. If for whatever reason settlers come and are followed by raiders I'll add some defenses. But to be honest the interface is so terrible with the settlement building and guide is non-existent so I'm trying to just avoid the whole settlement scene for now. Maybe patches or mods will fix that in the future.

Post some pics of the stair system you make to get up there. Everything I build looks goofy because there aren't any poles to place under the stairs. Everything is just kind of floating.

How did you move people over there?? I'm just worried about setting up a supply line to the place. The whole of East and South Boston's a deathtrap.

The whole settlement build system needs good docs. Most of the functionality I know of I sort of tipped over. That's not how it should be.

We need a guide to show us how to build structures, farms and other resources, manage people, traders, defense, etc.

Red Rocket is my main base. So far no settlers have arrived and I am glad, I honestly couldn't be bothered with settlers when i have so much exploring and side quests to do. I am sure the settlers at Sanctuary hate me lol I just hope I am not missing out on something by ignoring them.

Turned Red Rocket into my main base yesterday. Pretty stoked on its design. One stairway going to the roof, with one more stairway going into the large 4-story building I constructed on top. One heck of a view up there. Will still fiddle with it to make it seamless for my settlers.

My goal for tonight is to find a way to make a good staircase connecting my building already up there. I have an idea that if I can have the building up-top first, and then connect stairs from the top going down instead of the other way, I might actually be able to make a fully connected staircase. If not, I might have to scrap everything and start over lol. I want my settlers to be able to climb the stairs and enjoy the view I made for them.

Any other suggestions on this concept would be most welcome.

I pretty much learned to do everything I've done so far by reading the little tutorial boxes that pop up. And trial and error. Honestly, I like it that way because what the hell does this person know about surviving in the wasteland? They're a pre-war survivor who has experienced exactly zero moments in the wasteland up until you start playing as them. Gonna be a bit of a learning curve and it's not like there is some library they can access with all the information on all the tricks and nuances of building shelter from scrap materials.

I started using the Red Rocket Station right away as my home base... but always knew it was temporary because I didn't like how I couldn't add doors to any of the door frames leading to the outside... and I didn't like the way adding a room to the outside to make a door looked.

I was about to move over to Sanctuary to start diving into the settlement stuff... but just finished a quest that added a new settlement and I like it a lot more. Decisions, decisions...

Where were you able to place a single stairway up to the roof?

Does anyone have issues finding Piper or any companion when sending them to Red Rocket? I couldn't find Piper!
