Who is good?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:49 pm

Okay so I've got 120 hours~ playtime thus far, done Mages/Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood. Before I touch the main quest, I'd like to do some civil war quests... But have been putting it off as I just don't know who to side with!

It seems as though Ulfric is the bad one, but is he really? Some NPC's say he has a good cause but it just selfish. Is banning the worship of Talos truly bad?

TL;DR, are both sides bad? Who is good and who is bad?

Well, as far as I'm concerned, when you get into banning religions, even in a game, those who do the banning are, to me, the bad guys, so when the time comes I'll probably side with the Stormcloaks.

I look at it like this: The Imperials had to sign the treaty to keep from losing their entire army. As it is, they're building up their forces to drive the Thalmor out. Well, they were, until Ulfric busted a move, and forced them into wasting large amounts of resource to fight their own people.

The ban on Talos worship wasn't even enforced in Skyrim, until Ulfric all but dared the Thalmor to do it. So, of course, they did. And now people are being dragged out in the night and slaughtered.

That isn't even the worst part. Ulfric KILLED High King Torygg, who idolized Ulfric. Ulfric had spouted a speech that was borderline treason during a meeting of the Jarls, effectively making Torygg support him. And then, without even stating he wished to leave the Empire, Ulfric killed his greatest supporter, who would have followed him had Ulfric only asked. So, he killed the biggest competition he had for the throne, somebody who WOULD have named him the High General of Skyrim's army, had he spoken normally, instead of in the Dragon tongue.

So, to recap: Ulfric killed the High Kind, who would have FOLLOWED him, plunging all of Skyrim into chaos, leading to the deaths of thousands of Nords. Furthermore, he lead the Thalmor to actively enforce something they didn't bother to beforehand, leading to the deaths of even more Nords. And let's not forget, he's crippling the Imperial Army, the only force that has a chance of standing up against the Thalmor at the current time.

So, he's essentially dooming both Skyrim and the Empire to being torn apart by the Thalmor, when the civil war ends.

you know Good and Evil are matters of perspective right? One man's terrorist, is another's freedom fighter.

It's f*cking grey. The stormcloaks are royalists(Ulfric), and even worse kinda racist and nationalist in a bad way.

The Imperials are imperalists, and crave for power . They are also extremely hierarchical.

I sided with the Empire even though my character is a Nord Talos worshiper. A divided Empire will be an easy target for those Thalmor [censored]s.

I don't do politics and this is just a game, I'll probably play both sides with different characters.

I didn't need to dig in that deep to decide on which front I'd fight. Seeing as I was a Dark Elf and Ulfric seemed to hate anything but Nords, I joined the imperials. I made a new Nord character now, and seeing as the imperials wanted to kill me in the beginning of the game before I got saved by the dragon, I'm going to [censored] the imperials up this time. :)

Keep in mind the ban on Talos worship was never actually enforced until Ulfric rebelled.

Ulfric also murdered his king making him a traitor. Nord tradition or not, it was not "fair combat". Ulfric also sees Nords as the "master race" and everyone else should GTFO of skyrim. He's evil to the same level as Hitler.

Imperials are good intentioned... but just puppets at this point.

In the end imperials are the much lesser of two evils.

Its not as if the imperials want to ban Talos, It was either that or the continuation of a very visceral conflict. Once the Empire can withstand a Dominion assault the ban will be lifted in a heart beat as will the Thalmor Justicars by the neck

Stormcloaks - Racist, unapologetic, intolerant, genocidal, and ZERO foresight, everything they do is for selfish reasons and not the betterment of Tamriel.

Empire - Biding their time under Thalmor rule so they can rebuild their forces in an attempt to bring the Dominion down once and for all.
