Who has been robbed?

Post » Fri Apr 29, 2011 10:53 am

I was wondering who on these forums has been robbed and what is the best way to deal with the situation.

I've been robbed before, now I have a http://picturearchive.auctionarms.com/3738204354/9584500/fri%20060.jpg_thumbnail1.jpg security system. May I add the .357 picture I used is a Taurus M66---best firing handgun I ever had, the recoil is almost not there, also mine has a black finish :D.

I am sorry for you OP. I've never really been robbed except once when my dumb dad left the car unlocked. Nothing valuable was stolen. They just made a mess..

I have a collection of assorted daggers, stab knifes and other bladed objects hidden in plain sight. I'm well armed if anyone tries to break in here

All my crap is locked up in a bank, safely. All I need is my a debit card and my school ID. Theres really nothing else I need to keep around.

This, except replace big dog with laser defence system. You gotta upgrade these days man.

I've never been robbed, although several family members have. It's got to svck.

Also, I'm sure there is some sort of witty one liner I can make from the thread title, but I can't think of one right now...

By the way, I'm not an expert, but this sounds like identity theft if they have your birth certificate, social security etc. I'd do something very fast.

Whynot use radioactive materials/chemicals instead of a laser defense system, like in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226273/

OP: That f---ing svcks. sorry to hear that. It is troublesome to hear they went after your personal documents. Obviously contact all bank / credit / cell phone companies. I'd be worried about them apply for things in your name. I'm not sure where to suggest to start. Damn identity fraud is getting quite popular these days.

Personally someone used my drivers license information to register a car in San Diego, DMV contacted me when all the tickets start rolling in. :(

I got hustled for beer money, ironically at a 7 seconds show when I was a minor. Shoulda saw it coming.

A few attempts on my camera gear on trips oversees, but I hung on tight. :)

Car has been broken into. They got the camera that time. I learn the hard way to never leave valuables in your car. If you have to, use the trunk.

Never straight up robbery w/ the threat of personal violence, so I consider myself lucky.

If only robbers robbed you when you were home all the time. They obviously wait for you to leave, and guns don't shoot on their own.

Yah, I was thinking the same thing about everyone posting their "security"
I mean, it's effective if some unlucky sap gets there when you are home, if not , that security .. is probably getting stolen too.

Just once, when my car was broken into by "car hoppers".

They only take small change and such so I lost $2.45 from my change holder (yes, I count it everyday :P ), a loonie from my wallet that I had foolishly left in my car, a spare key for my house (our neighbors almost beat the hell out of someone who apparently tried the key on their house 2 nights later. Big guy chasing a group of guys down the street was kinda funny actually) and the pen that was on my dash.... They left the 4 CD's in my glove box, the GPS that was in there as well, the small tire pump I have, two sweaters, plus about 80 dollars worth of Best Buy gift cards and my bank cards and stuff.

I was right pissed, mostly because it was the one night I parked on the street.

Sorry for your loss though.

You can see it but you don't know it's there. I have a short coat rack for an example. Barely a meter tall. If you grab the handle under the knob, twist and pull up you've got yourself a sword. I have a clock with ornaments. Grabbing two of them and pulling up and forwards and you have two daggers.

I've had three bikes stolen, one of them was my own fault for not locking it, though  Daylight robberies and breaking into not-empty houses are pretty rare around here, one of the benefits in livng in a country where only ~5 million people occupy an area of ~340,000 km2 :D

When I was 18 and still lived at my parents place, someone had broken into the computer room on the first floor (bedrooms were on the second floor) and taken my father's hi-fi system. It was quite a shock, and my father obviously called the police and they were there and then bought an alarm and everything.

Worst thing about it, though, is that it turned out to be a "friend" of mine that I had spent a lot of time with it in the past 6 years who did it. Haven't talked to him since.

Another time I also got accused of stealing a bike from a guy, he was extremely angry at me for about 3 months, and then I suddenly got a phone call where he said he was sorry and so on. Apparently he finally had realised that I had absolutely nothing to do with it, no idea why he thought that to begin with.

I've had lots of little things taken over the years. Someone also once went down the street opening car doors on the only night I ever didn't lock my car door (I had been adding oil late at night and had unlocked it to pop the hood) and took my wallet and iPod. He took his loot down to the school at the end of the street and sorted through it, and when he couldn't scratch my name off of my iPod, he threw it into the playground. Someone called me the next day saying he was worried my kid had stolen my iPod because he said he found it on a playground when his dad saw he had it. So... I got my iPod back. No wallet though, which had no money, just credit card and driver's license.

Since the theives took your credit cards, birth certificate, and social security number, and the cops were about useless, here's some places to call.
By calling these three credit reporting agencies and informing them of your predicament, your can minimize the damage the thieves do, and lock down acess to your credit.
Do call the credit card companies before calling the agencies, and do not try to apply for any new credit with other companies.
The Social Security Administration needs to be called FIRST.

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
3.) TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289
4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271
