Who has the better radio?

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 5:59 am

I have always wondered what the consensus on the music in both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas was. I have found

myself torn on them many times, mainly because I am a die hard Sinatra fan but also because it is so hard to find

more faults in one or the other.

P.S. After you're done voting why not elaborate on why you like whatever you voted for

Apples and oranges.

GNR invokes a sense of Songbook America, which is appropriate in a place such as D.C. which always holds to a 'traditional' style roots in terms of image.

RNV- Invokes the feeling of 1960s Rat Pack Vegas, which is appropriate given The Strip and its casinos were modeled off 60s Vegas,

I don't really listen to the radio on my pipboy. I really enjoy hearing what is on a radio when I enter a building after spending along time in the wasteland.

the background music was better in than the radio stations in both FO3/FONV

Too bad there is only one song from OlBlue Eyes on NV..which I rarely get to hear on the station. I did however, vote for GNR because of Billie Holiday.

I enjoyed the radio in FO3 much more than NV, and voted for Galaxy News Radio. Although, Mr. New Vegas always does make me feel pretty.

These which one is better threads are getting already pretty annoying.

FO3 had a different feel and theme then NV and so are clearly the radio stations different.

I found the stations and the music choice for both games mostly fitting. Maybe a bit more country/western in NV but it was on a tighter budget and the inclusion of Frank Morgans original FO1/FO2 ambient music was more then enough compensation for that.

Both needed Bobby Darin as far as I see.

I'm surprised Black Mountain Radio doesn't have more votes. Why, I almost wanted to live in the paradise of Utopitha.

I hated Galaxy news radio because Three Dog wouldn't shut up about 'that kid from Vault 101 who just misses his Daddy'.

As to the music, I thought the radio for both games fit their respective settings quite nicely.

I always felt that Mr. New Vegas sounded a fair bit drunk in his lines. I dont know if thats just how Wayne Newton sounds normally (Never looked at his stuff outside of Fallout) or if he didnt respect his role all that much. Still, Big Iron on His Hip is the best piece of music for Fallout New Vegas, if I could have that thing play on a loop all 100 hours of a usual playthrough I would.

I wouldn't so much agree with that, though Frank Morgan's work is always a gem for the ears though I think that FO3's Ambient music was much better than NV.

The only music to rival 3's would be FO2's soundtrack and even then it's still teetering on being 2nd place.

As for Three Dog's constant talk of the Lone Wanderer I did find it a tad annoying but only after I had sunken at least 400 hours into the game, I also

noticed that the longer I played NV the more often music would start to loop and play 5 out of 10 songs in a row and repeat one song 5 times out of that 10. As such

both cancel each other out on those fronts but when it comes to the main radio broadcast GNR is the victor, but with NV's inclusion of the delightful

Mysterious Broadcast being not only more powerful than Agatha's Station(the poor dear doesn't have a wide enough selection) it fills in the gaps that

Radio New Vegas leaves making it a stalemate in my eyes. And yes discussing the new and old fallout's is starting to mirror politics more and more.

@Jarmar

That's just how Newton sounds, I also believe the way the scripts are written had a lot to do with the way he said them.

Huh, thats interesting. Do you have a resource for the scripts they used for Fallout New Vegas, by the way? I was able to find something like that when GECK hunting a couple years ago (Notes on pronouncing Caesar the legion way and not the profligateNCRdegeneratesbelongonacross way.) but it would be very interesting to see some of the script notes that they had, considering how dialogue heavy the game is.

I don't believe I do but it would be safe to say that the unofficial wiki might have them buried somewhere, those guys always manage to dig things up that usually should be

impossible to get your hands on.

If i'd only played one playthrough of both, I'd say GNR from Fallout 3. Unfortunately after playing both through several times, I much prefer Radio New Vegas. Three Dog just gets irritating rather quickly and it ruins the experience.

Being a fan of marching music I really like Enclave radio. and Eden has such a great voice that I could listen to him spout propaganda all day. Its a shame that you destroy the signal as part of the Main Quest, but I suppose shutting down the propaganda station of a bunch of genocidal maniacs is a good thing. :P

Personally, I like NV better but I wouldn't think it'd be more popular.

...Where the heck is Fallout 4 already?!

I hated 3Dog. That's why I listened to Enclave Station, and after Eden started to repeat himself, I turned radio off completely. Never done Agatha's quest, can't say anything about her station. That's why I only remember music from NV. I even have "Jingle, Jangle, Jingle" as my ringtone. I liked Mr New Vegas, his voice was kinda soothing. Tabitha was amusing to listen.

I like the humor in both Three Dog and Tabitha, even when I had a rough day these two made me smile.

http://markmorganmusic.com/; and that was the only music between both of the games that I'd listen to. In Fallout 3, I'd only listen to Enclave radio, and that, only to hear Malcolm McDowell in character doing a great job as Eden.
