Who has the most troubles with creating a character at the b

Alright, this is just ridiculous.
I JUST got my Xbox fixed, and so far I've spent a whole TWO HOURS trying to perfect my character, just as I have before it got busted. I want to make a perfect replication of me sooooo bad, but every time I finish editing it's just not right. Are there any pages besides the Vault to find a nice description of what all the scales (eyes big/small, nose long/short, jaw wide/thin, etc.) actually do when you change them from left to right? Or just tell me if I'm not alone in my plight.

Thanks,
Noodle

It doesn't matter to me. I just pick preset 2 all the time with clean cut, or buzz cut.
IMO, its not about the looks, its about the skills....in Fallout.

I don't worry about it too much, especially with 10 available ranks of Intense Training and not too many other perks that catch my eye. That, and the various implants for each stat, make it all pretty easy. I have a harder time choosing guns... :)

Haha, me too. So I just use one of the pre-sets that doesn't look too hideous, pick a beard, throw on some shades and a bandanna and then there isn't much of the face left to see :D

Same. If I have to look at someone's butt for hours in a game, I prefer it to be one worth looking at. More or less.

Having the PC version, I'm pretty-much OK: I just find a face in-game I like, use the GECK to make it usable as a Pre-set, and select it. I'm awful with making the faces look good, so I generally just rush through it with a few basics-- for example, on Oblivion, I usually go for Gaunt Cheeks, High Neck Slope, Shallow Selion, and tweak the mouth-- no matter what I do, my character ends up looking a little unusual :S FO3 and NV seem even worse, to me :(

It would be awesome if they developed a face grab sort of program, so you cna upload your picture and this is generated within the game so it looks alot like you as the actual player.

I believe EA does this on Fight Night Champion and a couple of other games.. :-)

It can be a real pain in the donkey, but it's better than oblivion. Just surf the presets and view them with the hair you want, than maybe tweak skin tones and such.

I use the presets because your character looks like that in the ending slides.

Seriously.

That's actually an idea that I've been wondering about for quite a while. But in the mean time, I'm going to go try and get my face right this time :brokencomputer:

Mass Effect 2 had a system that let you put a code in to get a certain face.

I have a difficult time getting the "beard/'stache" area to be weirdly not-lighter than the rest of the face when darker tones are used. It's annoying. :D

First character I ever made came out so yellow in-game she looked like a Star Trek alien.

Unfortunately the character creation system svckS in this game (and Fallout 3). I have never succeeded in creating a male I was happy with but somehow can manage to come up with good female chars so I have only played female in both games.

One major problem is they don't quite look the same once you get outside as you thought they did when you accept the character. I've kind of learned to adjust for that over the years.

It really is a b*tch.

That happens with me with every single RPG, Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age, Mass Effect...I've spent hours and hours on making and selecting the character just right, starting the game, seeing that something is wrong then starting a new character all over again...it is extremely frustrating and satisfying at the same time.

Same. If I have to look at someone's butt for hours in a game, I prefer it to be one worth looking at. More or less.

I have always found this argument/notion to be extremely idiotic, homophobic, nonsensical and psychologically hysterical. As a male playing a female character is inconceivable to me, it's that whole RPG thing...

There are some, those who are not self obsessed for instance, that do not play an RPG as "ME" making gender irrelevent. I often go with the females for the simple reasons such as easier character creation (fallout) or vastly superior voice acting (Mass Effect). For Oblivion I found the male character creation easier so played a male character.

oblivion was miles better for this.more adjustments possible plus the changes were visible there.i dont care to much about the issue since i play 1st person but still think it needs improving

Whatever. I felt the same way when I played my first 'choose your characters six' game, which was Diablo 1, way back in 1997. You could play the macho warrior dude, or a male sorceror, or the female rogue (archer) class. I played the crap out of the warrior and the sorceror for months, but turned into a wienie when I contemplated playing the rogue class... got all "OMG, I'm a guy, how can I play a female char? Will it mean I'm gay or something?!? Will it bring out a feminine side I didn't even know I had??" Same sort of stuff you're all concerned about yourself, even though you're not big enough to admit it... lol. But eventually I decided what the heck, nobody's looking over my shoulder and questioning my masculinity here, and I really wanted to play the archer class in that game something fierce, so... here goes! After a few hours of self-conscious play, I finally just forgot about what six the pixels were supposed to be, and just enjoyed the heck out of playing an archer.

Since then, I've played a mix of male/female chars in dozens of different games, whatever whim happens to take me when I go to create an avatar. Nothing homophobic or psychologically disturbed about a guy creating a female character in a game, though. I freely admit I admire the female physique, and if that's what I like looking at from behind when I'm running around some desert, more power to me. Funny thing was, after playing a female char for a while, I still found myself only being attracted to women, and I never once had an urge to do my nails or get my hair done or get all dreamy about Leonardo DiCaprio. If you're afraid to try it for some reason, that's your business. Just don't get all freaky just because somebody else does.

Perhaps you're looking at the whole thing differently, I suppose- me, the chars I create, I don't see them as *ME*... I play the chars I create, I don't *live as them* in the game. I'm playing my chars third-personish, so to speak, and not pretending I AM the char. As if I'm in my own private movie and I'm the director helping the protagonist act out the scenes. Perhaps you are on the other side of that, and can't disconnect yourself from the characters you create, and have to believe that char IS you... if that's where your head is when you're playing, then I guess I could understand your squeamishness. But for those of us who guys who aren't that 'into' our RP'ing, it's just another cute female backside bouncing across the desert. Diff'rent strokes.

Why I sit on a mirror.. hang on I have no butt?

Yes the settings are odd, basically it's a good idea to stay off the shading, tone parts as these screw up the look more than anything.
Basic skin tone should be fine however.

I don't really see faces ( recall them, spot differences, tell two similar people from each other. ) but the games settings are easy, one way makes thing wider / larger / taller.
The other the opposite effect.
Chins have depth and height.. depth tends to be better as to small it makes you chinless.
Really it just take some work and familiarity.

Be sure to wear loose-fitting stuff... or heavy armor. The tighter clothes really make your panty-lines show....

I do admit, the adjustments were nice. The end results in Oblivion, though, weren't great, plus there was no sync with how the character looked in the editing menu, the inventory menu, and the actual world.

agreed.its a shame really coz when you look at sports game character creation theres so much you can do yet there the games were it matters less.everyone just sayin use the presets but then you just look like everyone else in the game.id say there are much bigger issues than this in the game so not gonna moan about it too much

Agree. Have had issues with that in Fallout as well.
