Who here can read/write Daedric?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:35 am

I did a few days ago, it was way easier than I expected. They're just really corrupted versions of our English characters.
It's pretty fun to just grab a piece of paper and write random things down in Daedric, and it can look pretty cool if you do it right.

EDIT: Okay, I guess I musunderstood the purpose of this topic; I thought you asked if someone could help you but you just asked if we were able to ourselves: No, I can't but I guess I will try it out now :)

Daedric isn`t that hard, but it has various characters thickness so writing it might be pain.
As for reading, I didn`t really try it as I'm making runes now so I didn`t want to infect myself with ideas from it.
Belive me, it can be frustrating sometimes when you think you made cool looking rune and then you see something similiar to it. Same goes with spelling.
On the other hand making alphabet that has 48 runes is quite fun.

And as for dwemer script... would be interesting, but it could be material for large questline in next TES game.

It's a general elven script actually and last time I checked we had most of it.

From top to bottom Dwemer Glyps, wormgod script, simple Umaril impression and Weather top script.

It's just that we're a bit short on artists to make us a nice font.

I can with most of the characters. My friend wrote my cake out in Daedric last year and it took me a bit to read it, but I got it :P

I was meaning there's no P or Q or anything. They might be omitted letters or something, but even the omitted letters in Daedric still had characters.

I can normally read it, given its just Latin with pointy bits, or the letters are on their sides. I once spent ages trying to translate the blood on the floor of the chapel of Dibella, only to find out they were actually dwemer runes. http://www.uesp.net/w/images/OB-KotN-DwemerRunes.jpg

Yeah. The pointy bits annoy the hell outta me sometimes. That's why I stopped trying to read magic scrolls in Morrowind.

Made me friggin' eyes hurt.

I used to do the daily crosswords in daedric--and red pen. Looks pretty cool when it's complete. Of course, sometimes the letters would glow on completion and the room would shake a little, but I'm sure earthquakes are common in Oklahoma, so it's nothing to worry about.

Whatever you do, just don't do anything incredibly stupid like literally write "GHARTOK PADHOME GHARTOK PADHOME" on your hands in pen...

I don't wanna tell you all the crap that's happened...

Unless...you haven't had your head taken off and made love to by a giant green guy because of it, have you?

It's actually kind of easy to get the hang of. They're basically just the English alphabet manipulated a lot.

GHARTOK the Hands of Fate

On a serious note, I've been wondering recently whether or not there is a list of Ehlnofex words floatin' around somewhere besides the Translation dictionary at TIL. And I means words a little less common than "AE ALTADOON."

I have a weak memory that I saw something like that not so long ago.

So it's very much possible.

I really shouldn't try to learn this now seen as I'm doing exams next year and I want to be a science teacher but I really think it would be awesome to know!

Cargo cults?

:turtle:

US forces used to make equipment and food drops on small pacific islands. Sometimes they would build an airstrip, and teh people of teh island would worship the new gods taht sent teh flying machines with gifts of food. Occasionally tehy would makke models of radios and build their own airfields to appease the gods, which often worked as teh Us airmen would land thinking it was an airbase.

I really shouldn't try to learn this now seen as I'm doing exams next year and I want to be a science teacher but I really think it would be awesome to know!

Its quite easy, its just corrupted English. Look, I have some in my avatar.

Bah. Most science is self-explanatory and requires very little memorization. I say place your efforts on this, since you can wing being a science teacher. Trust me. It's what I do for a living. :P
