Personally I've never needed a base of operations in any of the Fallout games. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas I've made the most of backpacks and portable bedrolls (or simply used a bed whereever I was at the time). There are unowned beds all over the place. I always travel light, sell what I don't need and stay on the move. Just me, my backpack, and my dog.

Now if we were talking about huge RPGs like Elder Scrolls then yes, I use multiple bases of operation for those games. Not in Fallout, though.

I like using a base to store everything I plan on selling later. I normally don't start off with high barter so therefore I could lose out on a lot of caps. I like House's HQ the best but the three load screens in and out of that place drive me nuts. I might just use something on my next play through. Suggestions?

Love my home in Novac and the 38 even more!

If u don't like loadscreens I guess Novac would be ur best bet. Decent storage facilities and a comfy bed there

Loving the Lucky 38, booze and decent storage. I spent about 60 hours before I went on the strip and I barely leave now. I feel to good for the wastes.

I use a house not too far away from the Gun Runner's place as my home base. I would use the Lucky 38, but I don't like going through four loading screens to move 15 feet.

The lucky 38 is a tomb. And furthermore its a tomb under surveillance where I am not the master... I am just the hired help with nice perks. No windows, no looking down on the strip, no real reason for me to stay there after the SINK.

Now the SINK is a good place. Has what you need and then some. But... I need more.

I usually hoard stuff. I cant bring myself to part with unique or special items. So I fill my closets with them, and I keep all of the stuff I cant get a decent price for. That means I end up with more caps, gold, dinares ect than I can use. Without really bothering I usually end up with more than 2-300.000 caps and the same in prewar money. If I made an effort and spent the time I could likely get four or five times more. So give me something epic to spend the money on.

What I'd really like is some dwelling where I could display them. A sink-vendor thing where I could "sell" my armour and items and then walk next door to see them on display in a museeum or den or whatever. Maybe have a holotape projector where I could listen to Vera Keyes and where muggy would go insane from the lack of dishes. A place that is more a home than a pitstop or a service station.

Wouldnt it be cool to take over the "Bison Steve" and start your own casino? Have your own "Museeum" in the casino where you displayed the arms, power armor ect, that got more guests the more stuff you put inthere? Where you could have Mr. Handys (or securitrons if you are allied with House/Legionaires if you are allied with Caesar) whip around and do stuff. Where you could have high stakes games? Where You could start poaching other NPCs from other casinos, get your own comedians, singers, the fourtune teller kid, concierges, croupiers ect?

Or setup a caravan between Jacobstown and Vegas?

Or renovate a vault after you clear it out?

Or take over and renovate all of Nipton?

I wouldnt really care how insane the pricetag was. If I wanted it, Id get it.

Depends on my character. Being on the move may be a characteristic of one but not another (really though, being on the move seems to fit most for a courier). I feel weird passing through the same areas all of the time though, it would be even better if I could travel really long distances with my character, squatting and camping along the way, with random events on the roads.

I sometimes use Guardian Peak. Plenty of beds, campfire, storage, short walk to fresh water and fantastic views. It does have a minor rat problem, nothing to write home about though.

I used to use Lucky 38, but it never felt like a base of operations, just a dead room in a dead building like you could find pretty much anywhere in the wasteland, plus the amount of loot I had was getting to the point where each wardrobe and strongbox was just a mess and I needed some coordination. After a small amount of modding, my character now operates out of an underground bunker hidden in a Coyote den. Before any of that, I used to just store stuff on companions and sleep wherever.
