What video card do you have and monitor? Do your other games do the same?

few questions first:

Are you overclocked?
Do you have the latest drivers?

its your gforce card.
Thats your card about to go mate.
I had the same thing with a few geforce cards.
Heat stroke from the card, once it happens your card becomes more and more suspect to it, till it dies completly.

In my case the cards where overclocked but this is going back a few years.

Same problem I had, only some games would stress the old cards I had. In my case it was supreem commander that did it at the start, nothing else.
Then the longer i kept playing with those artifacts on screen, the more wold apear. Then other games started getting them. It got to the point where as soon as you started a game, the artifacts would apear and after a min or two the screen was pretty much currupted.

From all the help I got back then it was the tec guys at gas powered games who told me it was heat stroke. Just takes your card to have it once and it becomes suspectable to it. I got it again with the card your using as well but I did overclock that one to death.

For your information I got about 9 moths more out of that old card (9600) before it just dies

Install NVIDIA System Tools ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.06.html ) but only install the Performance module of it, and then go to your NVIDIA Control Panel and go to "Device settings" under the the new tree that appears on the left column, and crank up the fan speed from the default, save the new profile, and use the Policies section to make that profile load at startup.

gets hot when gaming
then cools fast when not gaming

over many months will cause tiny cracks in the
cards solder connection

for more info on this click on

Good to hear! You might also want to check if there's any obvious dust accumulation in or around your video card, or even the whole computer for that matter. You also might want to reduce the graphics settings (using the Advanced Graphics Tool by wasdie http://wasdie.blogspot.com ) to relieve some stress on your video card, to reduce the chances even further of you getting any artifacts.

That does look like a GFX card about to fail. Download GPU-z and run it whilst Crysis 2 is playing to see what temps you're having ingame.

Try some steps to keep your card cool. Do some cable management in your case. See if you can get a decent fan pulling air into the case as close to your GFX card as possible. Try taking out your GFX card and giving it a thorough clean of dust from the fan and heatsinks.
