-Is it Crytek?
-Or does EA have part ownership in the IP?
I don't anticipate a developer or community manager commenting on this thread. As I feel like what I about to say is too opinionated towards Electronic Arts.
Crytek needed more time to polish the Crysis 3 multiplayer mode. But because of EA's strict release schedule they would not allow Crytek to push Crysis 3 back. That being said the Crytek team worked diligently to finish the campaign as in this current age MP games can be improved with patches. It's a clear indicator from Crytek when they had a Beta that was ended just one week before the games release that they still had more work to do on the multiplayer. Irregardless, EA wants the return on it's investment as soon as possible and the game was released as is.
In conclusion, Crytek, thank you for making the Crysis games, I have a lot of fun playing them. But EA did you guys wrong, they rushed your games out and didn't give you the time needed to make a true triple A game.
I really hope that EA owns 0% of the Crysis IP because if they do we may never see another Crysis again. I wish Crytek had shopped around more for a publisher. Publishers like 2K allow their development teams time to make a game and they let the teams select the release date. So that they can have their games hit when the current releases are weaker. Look at how Irrational pushed Bioshock Infinite back just one more month. It was supposed to be out the week after Crysis 3. The Irrational CEO spoke with 2K and they agreed pushing the game back a month for further polish and to have a ideal release date. EA doesn't do this, EA is essentially competing with themselves during some months that they release several games.
Crytek is a big developer, for Cevat to say that they can not publish games in house I find hard to believe. But if that is the truth, then I really hope Crysis can find another publisher in the future. One that is going to allow it's developers time to create art, instead of creating just a product.
If Crysis can't be published by Crytek themselves then I hope they take their business to 2K or Bethesda. Any publisher that allows their developers to create a great game, and not just release it to have returns on investments. Bethesda has shown a high interest in mature, first person shooter games. They have their own engine under their belts there that runs on Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Bethesda purchased ID software and now own rights to the ID engine. Bethesda also has developers developing on the Unreal engine. Bringing the CryEngine to Bethesda is really a match made in heaven.
