This!

The High Elves created the common tongue throughout Tamriel.

Quite frankly it makes my head hurt - like Mass Effect with the supposed active translator feeds and all that jazz.

You'd think that some people in some of the races would still speak their 'native' tongues rather than 'Cyrodiilic' (or 'Galactic Basic', if that's what you want to call it  ).

I've never seen anything about the races' original languages (what did the Nords speak? or the Redguards? what about the beast races?)

Then you have the randomly shifting accents among races (I could see this making sense if there was some correlation between accent and separate regions of a province, but no one has seemed to bother pursuing this) - and thus we have American/Slavic/Germanic Nords.

I'm just poking fun, really, but still. I probably sound like the biggest dumb-a$$ on this thread :bunny: .

Look that up for yourself, I am not in the habit of continuously repeating myself.

We've had this conversation before and for some reason you find it hard to believe that in TES the elves are the precursors, who taught the later races about civilisation.

Well, that is your problem then, the lore is very unambiguous about this.

Tamrielic common, Tamrielic law, architecture and magic all come from the Altmer.
