Who's the better barbarian?

One of the things I liked about Orcs in Oblivion was how they weren't just stereotypical savages.

I m gonna make an ORC and krush all those needle like nords for fun, and ride a dragon to bring despair and destruction like a hellish green horseman.

Nords in TES are vikkinglike, but an Orc is An Orc, there s no like....its an Orc.

If you guys think Orcs are more barbaric than Nords, then obviously you haven't met the right Nords. Namely, my main characters in TES games :P.

So yes, I vote Nord. But I'm from MN so I'm baised. (Also shrek isn't scary)

I don't know incredibly much about the lore of TES orcs but going by their presentation in popular culture I'd have to go with them. I could see an Orc ripping someones face off and eating their entrails easier than a Nord doing it

The nords were inspired by Vikings, correct?

The vikings were, at times, a blood lusting people, I can see the ripping faces, maybe goin' Conan on someone.

Conan was a complete fabrication and not in any way actually based on a specific culture (it even had magic in it). Vikings weren't http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/47024,news-comment,news-politics,%5Bcensored%5D-and-pillaging-vikings-get-pr-boost. The popular conceptions of Orcs has them acting in a far more feral manner than vikings and displaying a complete disregard for human life. TES orcs seem to diverge from the common depictions though so it's really anyone's guess. A loremaster would have a better idea

Actually, Orcs are described as "sophisticated barbarians". Nords are just...loud.

Is that why the dovahkiin has the dragon shouts?

That's a variation of the Dragon's power coming from its breath. It has nothing to do with the Nords' presumed propensity for boisterousness

I think I remember reading one book in the game talking about Nords having shouting powers. It's probably not the same.

Nord gets my vote, since at least one of my characters has been a Nord Barbarian, Pick Orcs for my warriors.

It's the same, but it's revealed in Skyrim it's not specific to Nords. It's also revealed that the dragonborn's power is so strong that no current Nord comes even close.

how does the location of the game make a difference for who is a better barbarian?

Gee, I wonder.. who would endure better in the snow? An orc who is absolutely not used to the frozen mountains, or the nord who has lived there the better part of his life, and even if he did not - has a natural resistance to the cold.

That being said, I am assuming the whole scenario for the orc vs nord debate is taking place in Skyrim, since this is the general discussion of Skyrim after all.

Definitely Orcs. They actually come from a barbarian culture! Nords are wild and ferocious, sure, but ultimately they're civilized. They live in cities, they establish kingdoms, etc.
Orcs, on the other hand, are so savage and barbaric that they weren't even regarded as equals to the civilized races until recently. They were treated like animals and lived a brutal, nomadic life.

Nords may act barbaric, but Orcs are barbarians.

Stop talking about Romans and what not. IN TES, the Nords were the earliest human civilization. The Imperials are the descendents of Nords, who have the most ancient and developed culture. They're highly civilized (if warlike) and are prominent traders, not savages.

Nede :shifty:

I voted Orc. It's no contest, Nords are far to civilized to go toe to toe with an Orc in terms of barbaric nature.

This :)
