Most likely a Jackal if he was repaired in Primm.

I figure it was an NCR trooper, seeing as how ED-E is an Enclave eyebot, and the NCR has been hunting Enclave ever since they beat them down at Navarro.

I just asked him on Formspring, but yeah, I'd be willing to bet he's going to say "mysteries"

My guess would be that it was an NCR soldier who decided to use ED-E as target practice, most likely a First Recon sniper considering the bullets were .308 rounds.

I'll answer that to your truthfully, but its a bit of a spoiler.

~~

Basically, that was a proto-type ED-E, found in Lonesome Road after youget him out of the cage, a few dialogs appear before you start to hear this;;

"-Music plays as a suddle gunshot rings out.-" ~ Dialog from ED-E Prototype as he rides down some forign road.

Turns out, that it was supposedly a .308 round, so my guess is a sniper rifle or a Anti-Material Rifle. One or the other, forgot what it knocked loose, but the ED-E prototype was lucky to remain intact.

As for who shot it, I believe it was actually a Enclave member sent by possibly Colonel Autumn to take it out, don't know exactly why, but comparing it's other dialogs with Whitman as well as the one where Whitman told ED-E to "Fly fast and fly far".

That, is my guess. Calculated.. guess.

I like everything you said for this, apart from here I don't see why an Enclave hitman would be sent after a prototype that was being sent to a Navarro base, a flaw with the Enclave doing it is: Why a .308 round and not a plasma or Guass bolt, or even a pulse weapon that would be 100 times more effective than the before mentioned rounds.

My guess to answer that, is ED-E's super sensors. As we all know, robots have a high chance of detecting you, their sonar is like that of a bat's.

As for why .308 rounds, possability is the Enclave hired a hitman of some kind or merc (:/) to take them out because he might of been deep in rival territory (EX: Brotherhood, NCR) and I know heavy armor doesn't work well for sneaking.

Nether the less, the Enclave I really think had something to do with it.

Possibly. I've came to thinking that it was a few NCR troops seeing it, saying "Christ! Its a bloody Enclave robot!" and shot it.

I'd find it doubtful the NCR would think "OMG! THE ENCLAVE IS COMING BACK LETS SHOOT IT!"

If it was NCR, they probably would of left it alone. They know their harm to the Enclave had been delt with.

I think it briefly showed a Raider of some kind. Might have been a Fiend, or Jackal, or one of the other raider groups.

NCR I don't think would waste their ammo on it, if they would, they would have likely fired more than once until it fell to the ground, realisticly ED-E wasn't going fast enough to evade any bullets so they'd have destroyed the bot.

Enclave have more important things to do, like survive and integrate into the Wastes. They would shoot their own bot who was sent across the country to one of their own (ex)bases, another note is that they are highly advanced people dealing with energy weapons so a .308 round is not going to be used by them, maybe .50 cal but not a .308, its just too primitive for them, also they wouldn't hire someone to take it down either because that would almost endanger their integration efforts and the said hitman would have no mode of transport that could keep up with ED-E, nor would s/he have the tech good enough to track ED-E across the country. Hitmen need to eat and sleep v ED-E who need neither.

....After looking at the ammo used, and referring to the wiki which says it was a sniper bullet, .308 round, and what factions use .308 weapons only 3 exist: NCR, Legion and Fiends - ignoring some NPCs. As for it being a "sniper shot" I would disregard it being from an actual Sniper Rifle but instead from a Hunting Rifle, possibly scoped - Boone :o, since only NCR and few Legionnaires have Sniper Rifles.....Forgot where I was going with this. - Khans wouldn't shoot it for lolz either, Fiends would.

It was Fiends, with a Hunting Rifle, in the Mojave Desert.

I agree. It was most likely Fiends or some other group of raiders that decided to take shots at it for Ss and Gs.

the question was answered here..... if any of you got the dlc, and paid attention to ed-e when you talk with him, he clearly states what happens.... just like in the trailer.... sorry for the spoil, but thats that =)

He was quoting RALPHIE if anybody got it ("Fly far, fly fast!").
I still think it was a Jackal because of the incredible distance he mad (from DC to Nevada is very far and it's unlikely that any Enclave personnel could even make it that far as fast as a little robot), a .308 is for a hunting rifle (who in the Enclave uses hunting rifles?), the difficulties the Enclave were facing in DC at the time (it wouldn't make sense to send one of their men out to hunt down a little robot that is more than likely to be destroyed in the wasteland and isn't a threat to any of them), and the fact that Jacakls use hunting rifles and ED-E was shot near Primm.
