Who uses EVERY shout?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:59 pm

Heres my personal opinion on the shouts, please feel free to agree or disagree. You dont even have to read my opinion on them, therefore theres no point in you wasting your time in this thread.

Animal Allegiance - Pretty much useless as I seem to take down enemies quicker than animals can "come to my aid"
Aura Whisper - Probably the most useful one in terms of strategy, but I never use it
Become Ethereal - Im pretty much invincible anyway at higher levels. Also when you attack, even by accident it cancels
Call Dragon - Again at higher levels I can take down a dragon with ease before my dragon actually makes a difference. However you need to be a way in the main quest to get it so good luck getting it at lower levels
Call of Valor - And again, at higher levels I dont really need help, even on master. Maybe for fun when it gets a bit quiet when I'm exploring of whats left to be explored, Aela can be a bit boring.
Clear Skies - Who'd want to get rid of the fantastic weather effects?
Disarm - Pointless at higher levels. Okay if there are many enemies , but you can just use Ice Form to freeze everyone and they take damage
Dismay - They just come running back anyway, and as a warrior, this is pretty pointless for me
Dragonrend - I only use this when Im impatient, and I cba to wait for the dragon to actually land. I'm having a fun time exploring, boom, a dragon comes and I want to get rid of it asap. They are easy to take down anyway at high levels.
Elemental Fury - Never really used this as your weapon has to be unenchanted apparently. Unless youre an RPer (who will use shouts) or really low levelled or just dont want to wield enchanted weapons, I guess this is useful for you.
Fire Breath - Never use this, Ice Form is better
Frost Breath - Never use this either
Ice Form - I USE THIS ALL THE TIME. Mainly when there are a few enemies and I just cba to kill them so ill let the ice kill them eventually. Pretty much one of the first ones you get so its useful at every level
Kyne's Peace - Never used this but I assume the animals come back or you run into them again?
Marked for Death - Useless at high levels you can just kill them in a few hits anyway
Slow Time - I never use this but whats the point? Why would I want to wait longer to kill something?
Storm Call - Barely use this because it sometimes is laggy (PS3 btw)
Throw Voice - Useful if there are many enemies but Id rather kill them than watch them run off
Unrelenting Force - I only use this when some guy is standing on the edge of a building or cliff, I enjoy watching them fly for miles like an arrow to the adoring fans face.
Whirlwind Sprint - IOne time I used this to get to somewhere in some dungeon where I couldnt jump to. I guess its useful at low levels to run off but as a warrior I find this useless. Also when im carrying too much and im near my home I use it.

Basically, the majority of the shouts are useful at high levels. Ice Form, Dragonrend and Unrelenting Force are the 3 main ones I use all the time, in that order. The others, maybe once in a while (the other non combat ones). As a high level warrior, most of these to me are pointless now. Maybe included in some DLC we will get more "discovered" word walls and this time they will actually give you something useful to use.

Also spellmaking and enchanting need fixing (well more content), more marriage options are needed and more unique armour sets. Also more underwater content. The End.

some of those are pretty good at low and medium lvl , if you found the shout early , one of my favorite is elemental fury somehow i found the first 2 parts early in the campaign and used it almost constantly till my enchantment was good enough to make myself a good weapon

same with the breath weapons if you find them early they can be a life saver when facing multiple opponents , for a^powergammer most of these shouts are probably pretty useless , otherwise most of them are cool some of the fun to use

Slow Time is actually pretty cool. You get to move around and hit them while the mobs are practically 10x slower. Its like youre 'The Flash' in their eyes. Its my fav. shout, and as for Ice Form I never use it as it doesnt affect most bosses. Most enemies youll encounter at once is like 4-5 weaklings, so not really worth using it on that for the huge cooldown it has.

I like to play around with them. I had a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1298155-on-shouts-some-thoughts/ with my thoughts in it not long ago, and someone suggested all sorts of creative uses for Ethereal, including chasing mages and jumping off crazy high places.

But yea, I generally find a lot of them to be pointless. Frost Breath and Fire Breath take too long to charge back up for their strength, honestly. They don't do that much damage, and take forever to cool down.

I love Call Dragon though. He's just too much fun to watch.

Fire Breath is very useful, as many enemies in Skyrim seem to be weak to fire. Urelenting Force is great for mobs or pesky archers that are out of reach. I use throw voice and become ethereal for my assassin/thief. Also Disarm is good to use against archers or two-handed warrios, when your a thief/assassin.

I want Marked for Death and Storm Call. Marked for Death would mix well with my assassin.

I mostly use Unrelenting Force - especially fun when you see a Horker on the edge of a icy cliff.
Yesterday I saw a bear sprinting towards me, and had too little time to pull out my bow and load an arrow, therefore I blasted it back a few hundred meters and could pick my nose by the time it got back on its feet.

I also used the Become Ethereal shout when I had to walk through a gassy tunnel that otherwise would kill me pretty fast if I didn't use it.. pretty useful!

Exactly how i feel, shouts give my non-archer warriors, thiefs, and assassins ways too take down ranged enemies, and for the my ranged characters some shouts take down melee characters if im in a bind.

I don`t use the majority of the shouts to be honest, pretty much just unrelenting force, firebreath, dragonrend and call dragon.

Heres my personal opinion on the shouts, please feel free to agree or disagree. You dont even have to read my opinion on them, therefore theres no point in you wasting your time in this thread.

Animal Allegiance - Pretty much useless as I seem to take down enemies quicker than animals can "come to my aid" Agreed.
Aura Whisper - Probably the most useful one in terms of strategy, but I never use it Never used it so can't comment. It's probably quite telling that I've never even bothered with it.
Become Ethereal - Im pretty much invincible anyway at higher levels. Also when you attack, even by accident it cancels Has been useful literally twice - I jumped off the College of Winterhold because it was quicker than going around. Not impressed.
Call Dragon - Again at higher levels I can take down a dragon with ease before my dragon actually makes a difference. However you need to be a way in the main quest to get it so good luck getting it at lower levels I like this one just for the cool factor, Ohdaviing's damage output is pretty pitiful compared to my own, so no real point.
Call of Valor - And again, at higher levels I dont really need help, even on master. Maybe for fun when it gets a bit quiet when I'm exploring of whats left to be explored, Aela can be a bit boring. Again, cool factor is high, but I'm yet to bump into an enemy where I actually need them. I'd use this with stealth or magic characters (my main is a warrior with Destruction and Restoration) but I don't really want to do the main quest with them.
Clear Skies - Who'd want to get rid of the fantastic weather effects? This is just a pointless shout. It's only needed for two parts of the main quest, and even then it's a clear gimmick.
Disarm - Pointless at higher levels. Okay if there are many enemies , but you can just use Ice Form to freeze everyone and they take damage Weirdly I've not even found a single word of this yet. I like the idea but obviously only at lower level; at high level it's obsolete as I can just kill the enemy.
Dismay - They just come running back anyway, and as a warrior, this is pretty pointless for me Never used. Completely unneeded given that there is a Fear spell in the Illusion skill.
Dragonrend - I only use this when Im impatient, and I cba to wait for the dragon to actually land. I'm having a fun time exploring, boom, a dragon comes and I want to get rid of it asap. They are easy to take down anyway at high levels. Convenience rather than power. I'd get by just fine without it.
Elemental Fury - Never really used this as your weapon has to be unenchanted apparently. Unless youre an RPer (who will use shouts) or really low levelled or just dont want to wield enchanted weapons, I guess this is useful for you. I was really excited to get this shout... but you can't use it with enchanted weapons. Who used unenchanted weapons at high level!?
Fire Breath - Never use this, Ice Form is better Far too weak, even with Paarthurnax's meditation.
Frost Breath - Never use this either Far too weak, and no meditation even available.
Ice Form - I USE THIS ALL THE TIME. Mainly when there are a few enemies and I just cba to kill them so ill let the ice kill them eventually. Pretty much one of the first ones you get so its useful at every level Cool idea, useful for crowd control when you can't handle a big fight. There should be a flame version of this.
Kyne's Peace - Never used this but I assume the animals come back or you run into them again? Utterly pointless. Calm spell does this and more.
Marked for Death - Useless at high levels you can just kill them in a few hits anyway I actually used this a lot between levels 20 and 30, against tougher foes like Dragon Priests and some dragons. Pretty good but invalidated by high level.
Slow Time - I never use this but whats the point? Why would I want to wait longer to kill something? Never used it, but I can imagine it'd be good if you're a squishy character.
Storm Call - Barely use this because it sometimes is laggy (PS3 btw) Cool idea, but a bit pointless seeing as its damage doesn't match up to damage you can do yourself. Also annoying that it can affect friendly NPCs.
Throw Voice - Useful if there are many enemies but Id rather kill them than watch them run off Not used. Sneak is so good that it's pretty irrelevant though.
Unrelenting Force - I only use this when some guy is standing on the edge of a building or cliff, I enjoy watching them fly for miles like an arrow to the adoring fans face. Good fun, and useful when you get the third word. My most used.
Whirlwind Sprint - IOne time I used this to get to somewhere in some dungeon where I couldnt jump to. I guess its useful at low levels to run off but as a warrior I find this useless. Also when im carrying too much and im near my home I use it. Useful time-saver, although it gets annoying how guards constantly berate me for using shouts in town. Still only got the 1st word for it but I use it a lot to cover distances quicker.

Basically, the majority of the shouts are useless at high levels. Ice Form, Dragonrend and Unrelenting Force are the 3 main ones I use all the time, in that order. The others, maybe once in a while (the other non combat ones). As a high level warrior, most of these to me are pointless now. Also spellmaking and enchanting need fixing (well more content), more marriage options are needed and more unique armour sets. Also more underwater content. The End.

My thoughts. I think the shouts are really quite disappointing all things considered, there's not much reason to use the vast majority of them.

I tried Kyne's Peace yesterday :

A big icebear was running towards me and my horse, and since I like animals... It was pretty sad to kill this poor teddy.

i tried this shout for the first time ever, and the bear stopped, walked away and fell asleep ! So i just walked to his right, and he didn't react.

1 bear saved \o/ !

Animal Allegiance - Pretty much useless as I seem to take down enemies quicker than animals can "come to my aid"
- Well, I do not know... havnt get this one yet

Aura Whisper - Probably the most useful one in terms of strategy, but I never use it
- This is my most favorite shout as an archer assassin.(In buildings, dungeons, etc.)

Become Ethereal - Im pretty much invincible anyway at higher levels. Also when you attack, even by accident it cancels
- Uh... since it is me to kill others... so no... I dont use this much

Call Dragon - Again at higher levels I can take down a dragon with ease before my dragon actually makes a difference. However you need to be a way in the main quest to get it so good luck getting it at lower levels
- I found it is quite funny watching two dragons fight each other

Call of Valor - And again, at higher levels I dont really need help, even on master. Maybe for fun when it gets a bit quiet when I'm exploring of whats left to be explored, Aela can be a bit boring.
- I love the way they shout

Clear Skies - Who'd want to get rid of the fantastic weather effects?
- Sometimes I found the weather is... annoying.

Disarm - Pointless at higher levels. Okay if there are many enemies , but you can just use Ice Form to freeze everyone and they take damage
- Well I mostly do one-sneaky-hit kill so... nope

Dismay - They just come running back anyway, and as a warrior, this is pretty pointless for me
- Never use it

Dragonrend - I only use this when Im impatient, and I cba to wait for the dragon to actually land. I'm having a fun time exploring, boom, a dragon comes and I want to get rid of it asap. They are easy to take down anyway at high levels.
- I always use it against dragon D: even i'm using bow doesnt mean that I can shot them down so quickly... annoying

Elemental Fury - Never really used this as your weapon has to be unenchanted apparently. Unless youre an RPer (who will use shouts) or really low levelled or just dont want to wield enchanted weapons, I guess this is useful for you.
- I never use it (even bow is quite slow but I prefer it that way and save my shout for something else)

Fire Breath - Never use this, Ice Form is better
- Use it with "Yol" meditation from Paarthronax is quite cool tho.

Frost Breath - Never use this either
- Used once... and useless... D: It cannot even slow elite enemies

Ice Form - I USE THIS ALL THE TIME. Mainly when there are a few enemies and I just cba to kill them so ill let the ice kill them eventually. Pretty much one of the first ones you get so its useful at every level
- I use it just for fun

Kyne's Peace - Never used this but I assume the animals come back or you run into them again?
- Never

Marked for Death - Useless at high levels you can just kill them in a few hits anyway
- For boss and dragon only

Slow Time - I never use this but whats the point? Why would I want to wait longer to kill something?
- Slow time + Bow(zoom 50% slow time) = time stop (wasting time in real life) but i like it sometimes for The Matrix feel

Storm Call - Barely use this because it sometimes is laggy (PS3 btw)
- I found it VERY POWERFUL if you walk into a fort and 10+ bandits running to you just use it and stand still watch them got lightning bolts and turn into ash.

Throw Voice - Useful if there are many enemies but Id rather kill them than watch them run off
- Quite funny for dungeon backstabbing

Unrelenting Force - I only use this when some guy is standing on the edge of a building or cliff, I enjoy watching them fly for miles like an arrow to the adoring fans face.
- Very hilarious shout for pushing someone off the cliff (I agree with you)

Whirlwind Sprint - IOne time I used this to get to somewhere in some dungeon where I couldnt jump to. I guess its useful at low levels to run off but as a warrior I find this useless. Also when im carrying too much and im near my home I use it.
- I found it is very useful once I got too much things to carry... and just need some more distance to talk to NPC and sell stuffs.

Most of them transform any and all opponents into training dummies that can not retaliate. I can shout this guy who was one-hit killing me off his feet and beat him to death with a pillow.

Animal Allegiance - I once used this to survive that troll on the way up the 7000 steps.
Aura Whisper - Thief skill.
Become Ethereal - Many dragon fights were survived only with the help of this when there is no cover at early levels. Fast exit down high places now.
Call Dragon - Fun skill against hapless bandits
Call of Valor - For group photos with your two thalls, follower, lachance, dog and so on. More the merrier.
Clear Skies - Quest only
Disarm - Pointless at higher levels.
Dismay - Pointless at higher levels.
Dragonrend - Fast dragon kills.
Elemental Fury - Second Strongest Shout in game.
Fire Breath - Never use this.
Frost Breath - Never use this.
Ice Form - Never use this.
Kyne's Peace - Never use this.
Marked for Death - Useless at high levels you can just kill them in a few hits anyway
Slow Time - Strongest Shout in game.
Storm Call - Fun but ultimately too slow
Throw Voice - Never use this.
Unrelenting Force - Long CD for the effect.
Whirlwind Sprint - Puzzle skill, helpful to reach some areas you aren't supposed to go yet, namely Thalmor Embassy.

Fair enough, I was pretty disappointed to just be handed Fus Roh Dah on a plate in the main quest as well. The rest are pretty badly underpowered though, on the whole.

Many of the shouts would be alot more useful, if the cooldown timers weren't so long. Or the Damage ones scaled properly with Level.
As they don't scale so many of the combat ones are useless at high level as already pointed out and the non-combat ones are just fun factor after a while.
The shouts are in a much need of improving. I mostly use unrelenting force but I have taken a liking to iceform (Just got it) just for fun when a large group come at me.

The only shouts I thought were cool are:

Become ethereal: but it's useless
Slow time: Awesome...wait, it slows everything down. What's the point?
Elemental Fury: All time favorite, if I was allowed to use it with my enchanted weapons in the first place.
Storm call: Useful when outdoors. More of a "wow" factor.

The only shouts I use:

Disarm: waiting for tier three for it to even work on enemies. If it works.
Ice form: It's great, but I'd rather disarm enemies because they get back up the moment you hit them. Great for crowd control.
Fus Ro-Dah: Possibly even more effective than ice form. (I only have tier 2 ice form) Sometimes I can throw a crowd across the room.
I also use the life detect shout because I cannot cast spells/I hate switching to my hands every time I want to cast.

I have tier 3 slow time. Are you faster than enemies? If not it's a huge disappointment.

I use them all pretty much, though spread on 4 characters, throw voice is just too nice for assassins, whereas pretty useless for my paladin etc.
