Post » Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:11 am

Well guys, i'm pretty new here.

And today I want to know/discuss. Who here want to be a Game Designer ?

My dream since I was 9 or 10 is be a Game Designer, I grow up playing games (only on PC, because I naver have had a console before).

This year I will start my Second Year in High School, and I gonna do a specialization graduation in Game Design (here is called Technical Graduation), for who know, one day, have a nice job in a great Game Studio, like Rockstar, Epic Games, Crytek, 2K, Blizzard or have my own Studio.

I want to find anothers guys like me, who dream in make games or guys who are living this dream.

Thank you !

Most gamers dream about being a game designer - it's natural to want to make what you do a better experience.

The difference between gamers and designers is doing. You want to change that weapon? Do it. You want to make a new level? Do it. You want to make that Nanosuit purple? Do it.

The best way you can get into game design is to start modding. Start altering a pre-existing platform and see what you can come up with. There's bucket-loads of information and helpful people over at http://www.crymod.com to get you started :)

You could also sometimes make your very own story to the game as well. I know that it doesn't completely relate to game design, but sometimes, both will collide with one another.

And yes, draw stuff, try to model it into 3D and get into CE2 or CE3. You'll want to keep doing it until you perfect it. Go to Crymod like Adam said, you will find quite a lot of resources there. :)

And yes, I'd love to work for Crytek, in fact, Crytek UK isn't far from here, about 1 hour if I take the train there.

I am dreaming of becoming a 3D animator. I am thinking of getting started with 3ds max in animation when I have some time.

this is something i would like too
since i first got cs 1.6 and found that it was possible to get every kind of skins for it i've been into modding
learned max, photoshop, mudbox and a lot of other stuff on my own and did some things for the source engine, though as i couldnt get anything to work with crysis mp i never tried much to mod for ce2 as it was just a waste of time cause i couldnt use the things i did
unfortunately in my country there is no such thing as a game designer graduation so i had to move on with my life and let modding for some occasional free time i can get :\

I really wanted to become a game designer, but I am worried that my passion for gaming would burn out... I don't think I could handle games for 12 - 15 hours a day, every day, and not get burnt out from it. Also, atleast in America, game designers do not get paid very well and are in highly inflated locations like Los Angeles, unless you are lead programmer or something... Because of all these reasons, I am looking forward to becoming a Nuclear or Chemical Engineer to help benefit the worlds power needs or medical demands, it pays much more, and I certainly won't get burnt out of gaming by this. :)

I do wan't to get into modding and learn some C++ programming, but just as a hobby, and not a long-term job that I could get burnt out from.

Yeah, Pretty cool academy here im Germany.

In my State there is 2 University who are famous in Technologies areas, and both of them have a specialization Graduation in Game Design (One of this University is located in my city).

But I don't know, Game Design is a specialization in Computer Science (I don't know if you guys gonna understand this, but is a Gradution focuss is programming) I preffer do this Gradution and being a specialization in Game Design.

Don't know, I still have 2 years to decide.

I feel the same way, but instead of an engineer I want to be an architect. I am currently in school to do just that.

You realize what a life of hell that is Ghost?

They have insane schudules, flying around the world often to every game event, but instead of enjoying it you are jotting down every word... long hours..Karpal Tunnel is likely... Hard to settle a family. Not the life for me. ^-^
