Who wants to be able to own dogs in Skyrim?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:05 pm

Why not kittens too? Or birdies, and be able to feed cutesie chipmunks while out hunting Bambi. Meh, either way having a dog with me always in the way when I'm trying to get through doorways and not being programmed intelligently enough to gtfo, I'd pass any day lol.

Unless, my dog looked like this:

..and I could whip it out as a daily power to scare off bandits, etc.

YESYESYESYESYES!
In all seriousness, you should be able to domesticate any animal in-game, depending on personality or something. It would be cool to be able to get more animals over time insead of just one over the entire game. Of course, it's not like there aren't going to be any negatives to aving an animal in your party. Say, if you have a mountain lion as a temporary companion, NPCs natural responses might be fear or somethin. Or, if you have a rat and try to domesticate a dog, the dog might, through instinct, attack the rat, kill it, and eat it. Or, if you have a really aggresive animal, it might get angry to an approaching NPC and attack it. It will have to be put down then and there, and you would have to pay a fine for the assault that the animal wrought.
That would be cool.

Maybe become a scavenger and have your dog help you. Or a hunter and have a hunting dog to chase down animals. Possibly a quest where owning a dog would make it easier because you would have to follow or track a person who went hours ago. The dog could help you pick up his trail.

Even though I probably won't have one, I'd like the option.

I'd rather have a slave Argonian, Fable kinda ruined dogs in video games for me. Argonians don't poo in the dining room or hump my leg, much cleaner.

I think it would be a little weird to own a dog if you are playing a Khajit

Eh. I like Fables portrayal of the dog idea. If I remember correctly, he'd help you find stuff, but wouldnt necessarily partake in combat. Besides, I'd be too worried he'd die! :[
I'd like to be able to teach the dog tricks, and have him track targets or treasure.

Yes and cats too, but I will most likely have to wait for a mod esp for the cat.

As you can tell by the topic of this thread that I am a dog lover and in Oblivion not being able to own a pet really kind of grinds my gear. You can own a house, and everything included in the house but not a dog? Really?

I think they should also have different types of dogs. Like a white/yellow lab. (My favorite)

well you could get a dog pet in oblivion

I would'nt mind owning a dog or a pet of some sort in skyrim.
But i wouldn't want it to tag along with me out in the open world,it would'nt last two minutes.
Unless i could force a troll to give me a piggy back :)

Sorry if it's already mentioned here, but did anyone notice the pic at the top right of this image?

A solitary man and what appears to be a dog walking through the wilderness. There is no evidence of aggression of either party, and no other NPCs around. It looks like the person owns it as a follower.

I do. We already know companions will be an option, most likely with the same basic system New Vegas used, so a dog is a no brainer with those condtions in place.

Look in the Art of Skyrim video, 3:00 minutes into it at the very top right of the wall there is a man and behind him is a dog walking with its head down, appearing not to be attacking, but following... my guess, dog companions are in
