Who wants to be able to own dogs in Skyrim?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:19 am

As you can tell by the topic of this thread that I am a dog lover and in Oblivion not being able to own a pet really kind of grinds my gear. You can own a house, and everything included in the house but not a dog? Really?

I think they should also have different types of dogs. Like a white/yellow lab. (My favorite)

There is a dog that looks like an Irish Wolfhound in the screenshots included in GameInformer wlaking next to a guard - I'm not a dog lover but I like the idea of having an animal companion - I voted don't care because i would rather have the Guild wars style tame an animal to be your companion for my ranger style NPC's - so i would be equally happy with a wolf, bear or sabretooth - forget the mammoth unless I can ride it :)

No thanks; i'd rather be off adventuring and killing people than playing Nintendogs thanks.

Obviously i'd like dogs in the game, but being able to own one really doesn't appeal to me.

We have concept art for dogs and dog meat... I think its clear what we'll be keeping them around for.

Yeah I'd love one, never really cared about companions and whatnot until Dogmeat...

Poor little guy, sent him off to find ammo and didn't see him for days... then during one of the final quests he came running, taking on as many Enclave as he could - only to be gunned down trying to protect me

Haha but no seriously I'd like one so long as handling them is better than companions have been previously; sure NV improved on them but it still wasn't great, especially having to be next to them to issue commands...
Hopefully they can come up with something for companions.

I was going to dismiss this has another "can we have this even though the game is more or less done" but after Dogmeat in FO3 I was thinking that it might be possible. I actually enjoyed having dogmeat around to fetch foot etc. Having something like that in Skyrim would be cool - he could warn you of attacks or act as a skirmisher - of course he would have to take damage but be able to heal (and be healed). I hate the way you can't give healing potions to companions - FO3 went a way to correcting that. Yeah, gimme a dog!

Michael Vick...

On a serious note, I couldn't be bothered with owning pets, and I most likely would never use the feature.

That being said, I am in no-way against tiny features like this that would improve the gaming experience for certain players.

I voted yes even though I have no personal interest in having a dog. I wasn't fond of dogmeat in Fallout 3 and I'm not really a dog person in real life
But I know other people who would like it. And! Hopefully dogs wouldn't be the only choice. I,e some other companion whether they be animal, mer or man.

If freelance hunting is fun and dogs can actually intelligently hunt with you it would be quite fun. I don't quite know how well my dog will fare against some 30ft dragon though

It has to be All About The Immersion: You can own them, but have to feed them or they run off (if you're lucky) or turn on you (if you're not, or starvation gets severe enough with you as the only nearby edible material). Along with healers you'll have vets in town and they'll occasionally get worms or mange and have to be taken in for (expensive) treatments. Various inns and other businesses won't allow them inside, and you'll get the old "Stop right there, criminal scum!" if your doggie does its business in the wrong part of town and you're not there to clean it up because you're inside the tavern drinking.

Yeah it should wait outside virtually all interior cells, except maybe dungeons and the player's own home.

I'm willing to sacrifice some immersion if it means not picking up dog crap. ; )

Personally, I'd much rather have a dog than a human for a companion. I kept my dog with me all throughout Dragon Age origins. Because it was a dog. Y'now, man's best friend. I can't imagine they'd be that hard to code either. And you don't have to worry about bad voice acting. :disguise:

Also, I want to play fetch with him. Yep.
