Who wants to be in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 9:43 am

PM sent.

I like the idea about custom and unique faces for Skyrim (regardless of their provenance).

I don't want to offend anyone but I was a tad disappointed by the faces in TR (have been only in Firewatch and its close surrounding so far), too much generic faces and the selection wasn't great either, the NPCs lacked uniqueness in their appearance as opposed to their rich background, I understand the approach of staying close to the original but who isn't using face/clothing replaces ? :P Needless to say it's just my personal opinion, other people might like them.

The Nord faces used by Better Heads look pretty cool, would love to see some of them in Skyrim, especially for generic characters such as guards and non-quest NPCs.

Yes I really like how you move not just the moth and eyelids but various parts of the head. You should speak to Lestat De Lioncourt about it. I do wonder what he last ate..

I'll look into it, I'll gladly help out with what I can.

Finally posted the head pack Westly sent me. It took awhile to find it on my desktop computer: http://modprojects.deejaygamer.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?did=8

Oh, and my hair style is more or less the way it is in my avatar but feel free to do it however you like as long as it's not something too strange. lol

Once I find a suitable set of photos of my cat I might post those as well for a Khajit character.

Edit: I might go in and edit the eyes. I guess the photo I sent to Westly had my eyes looking in that direction-I think it would look much better with my eyes properly centered.

Okay, how does this look? http://modprojects.deejaygamer.com/djgamer_imperialtest.jpg

Dunmer Version: http://modprojects.deejaygamer.com/djgamer_dunmertest.jpg

I like how you have the details in, however for the darkelf, some bone structure on the face may need some slight adjustments, like racial features that are commonly seen, like the outer eyebrows are rised higher, I'll do a quick visual reference.

never mind, clip2net isn't letting me, all I can say he needs a slightly higher outer brows, and cheekbones, a little more defined cheeks. though I would prefer the Nord, since the darkelf looks too human than Dunmer.
I figured I'd give some suggestions. good luck with it though!

AB positive

I'm not sure if we should give a lot of attention to the beast races, cause they are very, very rare on Skyrim...following the "Pocket Guide of the Empire" we only have a few scattered Khajitt in the capitals and bigger towns...even if the nords are not racist towards the beast races and slavery is banned on Skyrim the provience seems to be less handsome for Khajitt and Argonians.

But Solidfire, you are very welcome....modeling and animation skills are needed, especially after TDW's gone.

I'll send you my msn contact details via PM and we can discuss more about making unique beast race heads :)

Well, Westly gets all the credit for the original texture, I just fixed the eyes because they didn't look right in the original texture-which is probably my fault partly. I must've not been thinking too much about where my eyes were "pointing" when I choose which picture to send him-if you look at the screenshot on the mod projects download page you can see the problem: http://modprojects.deejaygamer.com/infusions/pro_download_panel/image.php?did=8&pic_id=8

I also just look really tired for some reason. In any case I tried another batch of photos with my digital camera just to get the position of my eyes correct and let me tell that is not easy, especially when you normally wear glasses-trying to get your eyes to "focus" on anything is obviously quite difficult. lol

Another minor problem was the color of my eyes. I'm not sure if it was the particular photo or some artistic license on Westly's part but my eyes are technically a sort of "turquoise" color-or at least more green than blue although it kinda depends on the lighting.

But in any case my point is in terms of making faces I'm much better at retexturing than building a texture from scratch. Also, I supposed I'd probably need to try a different head model to make it look more Dark Elf-ish. I suppose I could just try a random head or two in the Master Head pack and see which one looks best and hope the positioning of the facial details is similar enough that I won't have to try moving a bunch of things around. The current texture focused on the skin, eye, and lip coloration and I think I've done that pretty well. I tried to add some of the details like the little "bumps" and such that seem to be on Dunmer faces but the thing is that most of the male Dunmer heads I found in the MHP are half the resolution of the texture for my face-and actually the positioning of the elements is pretty different as well so that'll probably be a challenge regardless.

So I'm not sure how far I'm going to go to adapt the texture/mesh choice for other races-although it might be a nice challenge if I'm really bored at some point. If anyone would be willing to work on it I'd probably put up the PSD source file for my part of the work on my website as well. Technically however I'm considering using the Dunmer texture for a character in Province: Cyrodiil.

I'm soo sorry Solidfire, thanks for bearing with me I know it's been ages. It's mostly done, but I had intended to wait till I got the Skyrim esp from Lestat to show an in-game screenie. But it seems that is taking a while so http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4729/45293452.png is something in Nifskope. Now you know what you'll look like should something unfortunate befall your hair :D I have to map the earring and clean up the textures but tell me what you think of it so far. Och I should have asked for reference pictures of you with an open mouth, hope it's close enough.

Have you considered "casting" any celebs for this project? Imagine Liam Nesson in Skyrim! I suppose this may be illegal though...

If he isn't a friend or relative to you and so kind to give permission to use his face, yes, it is illegal. Also it's not task of a provience mod to add faces of celebs to the game, this should other mods do. :P

I should be getting another camera to help you get a clearer image of my face on there, so far it looks great however eyebrows are abit off. though I'd love to do some tweeking myself to farther finalize it if you'd like. the nose bridge is too wide atm, I understand its a wip still. though I know you'd appreciate some feedback.

eyes look, well, creepy, thats why I want to find and barrow a camera for high resolution images, thus I hope to get a camera for myself this xmas. x3 I like the earrings, thats a nice touch. lips are good by far, but needs a slight bit more indepth to make it believable. I'm a texture artist, also 3D designer, I can try finishing it off myself to save yourself the effort and time :D if you'd like.

btw the shape is looking fantastic, however still needs some minor adjustments

Thanks, I agree the eyebrows are smeared down on the outside, shouldn't be hard to fix. Tweaking the mesh though is problematic when you've already done the morphs. Not only would you have to repeat it two more times, but unless you make the exact same changes to all three meshes (rather impossible), you would see the nose grow/shrink as they face blinked and talked. Thankfully I've got a top bit of kit that let's you copy and paste the position of vertices, so I think it should be doable. How were you planning to do it though?

Mmm the eyes always look a bit creepy at this stage, it's not so bad with a gloss map and in-game but yea higher res would be nice. What do you mean by more indepth with the lips? More pouty? Keep in mind it's stretched when the mouth is open. Really? Are you working as one? Why didn't you say so earlier! Good luck with the christmas pressies :)

pretty close. i tended to tie it up a little bit lower. and it tended to start a slight wavy curl anything past that length. looks good. always liked long hair better. would still have it if not for my job. haircuts cost too much. and hacking some off with a knife when it got too long was way easier. :)

I'd love to do this. I have been wanting to get a face into my game for ages, since I saw how some modders and creators can do this.

I have the shots I had taken for a friend of mine who casts 1:18 scale heads of my fellow customizers. Just have to find out where to send them. I'd love to be in Skyrim, and you can never have enough of us poor Nords with the auburn hair but the snow white beards(chuckling).
