Who or what caused the Void Nights?

Post » Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:45 pm

I know that the Thalmor may or may not have brought back Masser and Secunda, but does anyone know what the cause of the disappearance was in the first place, and if it had ever happened before? It seems logical that the Thalmor would've made them disappear to get the Khajiit on side, but do they even have the power to do that? If they truly do have the power to use Dawn Magicks to bring them back, it doesn't sound too unlikely... If they actually did use Dawn Magicks to bring them back.

(Also on a less important note, how long did the Void Nights last?)

Thanks to anyone who can answer!

the void nights lasted 2 years; the rest, i do not know. it would be opinions, theories, and conjecture, nothing really solidly based on in-game lore.

i believe the thalmor did make them go away, and then let a khajiit bring them back to take all the glory (see http://imperial-library.info/content/words-clan-mother-ahnissi-her-favored-daughter)

We believed it was the Thalmor who removed them in the first place, trying to remove Lorkhan from the physical to unmake him mythically.

All it did was freak out the cats-on-crack.

I can't prove anything, but I suspect the Thalmor somehow caused it. We know they're not above lies and manipulation, and who else really benefited from it?

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/great-war

That's why everyone here think it is the Thalmor who removed the moons.

At first glance, you can think it was only in order to control the khajiits ; but when you know that the goal of the Thalmor is to "destroy" Lorkhan, you can guess that it isn't a coincidence if Lorkhan's body disapeared...

Is that all?

What were the Void Nights? (03/02/12)
Eugenics experiment. With a side dish of "don't [censored] with us."
IMHO, the goal of the Thalmor was some sort of eugenism (surprising, no?). They wanted to stop the influence the influence of the moons on the Khajiits, giving birth to normal Bosmer. Was it succesful???

Wait... Without the Moons Khajiit give birth to Bosmer??

Also I assume the Eugenics aspect of the event wasn't successful, seeing as the Khajiit were probably too out-of-their-minds anyway to even mate anyway :P

We don't know. In fact, http://www.imperial-library.info/content/words-clan-mother-ahnissi-her-favored-daughterindicates that once, Bosmer and Khajiits were the same. And as the Bosmers must have deviated of the Aldmers... We also know that some sorts of khajiits http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Khajiit#Ohmes (and the most Bosmerish-like Khajiits are those born when the moons are new...)

As one goal of the Thalmor is to unify the mers (elves) and to return to a higher state, they may have tried to transform Khajiits into Bosmer.

-If they were successful, they may have stopped in order to calm Elsweyr's folk, but they will restart later
- If they weren't (kahjiits didn't have children any more, became monstruous, only had Ohmes, who knows?) they decided to retry it later/they were satisfied by the alliance with the Mane.

The form any Khajiit kitten takes at birth is determined by the position and shading of the moons (note the above's second link, and scroll down to "Morphology"). If the moons are gone, there's no way to nail down the form a Khajiit will take at birth. While I don't know if they'd bear Bosmer kits, the fact that they wouldn't have a specific form might indicate a connection between Khajiit and the Bosmeri Wild Hunt (hearkening back to the Dawn when nothing was solid and all was chaos).

Illusion magic does it again! First for tricking the Empire into thinking the emporer was actually the Emporer, now it has been used to convince everybody that the moons disappeared. Bravo.
