Who will make the best humanoid thief in TESV?

Post » Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:54 am

I read in an article recently that since classes have been dropped race selection will be more important in Skyrim. For my first playthrough i'm going to be doing a thief/assassin type character and wanted to pick a humanoid character to go along with my backstory which cancels out the khajt and argonians (Someone wanna explain to me how the hell an argonian is going to survive is an arctic environment like skyrim. If they're all lizard like shouldn't they be cold blooded?). So these two aside does anyone have any thoughts on which of the remaining races (besides orcs. Not that they'd make good thieves anyway) would make the best sneaky character? I guess i could play as a bosmer but will they still be short in V? Oh that remids me a little off topic but funny story.... Oblivion was my first TES game and i picked a wood elf because they were a)humanoid and b)sounded like great thieves. So i would play through the game and sometimes come across these "midget elves" with gay voices and be all like "Hey look at this thigh high piece of [censored]!!! Get out of here Frodo before you get stood on you [censored] idiot!! Hur hur hur". Later in the game as I was leading cyrodiils army out to the battle of Bruma i discovered the third person view and was like ".........Aww [censored] it!". Shattered ego. Never got over it. But yeah any thoughts?

Argonians are not cold-blooded, first of all.

Why not play a khajiit? Bosmer and khajiit are the best thieves. They're your MAIN thief classes, besides the breton and altmer if you want to be an Illusion-Thief. If you don't want to play khajiit (for whatever reason), then your best bet is bosmer. Not sure how short they are, but they look MUCH more vicious, and fit their lore of being cannibalistic savages.

Waaait a minute, best thieves are the PC that have 100 agility and 100 pickpocket skill. Any race can do that.

Nice! This i like. Maybe i can put up with being 4 feet tall if it means im a cannibalistic badass. But yeah Argonian and Khajiit are def out for RP'ing sake but i could make bosmer work

Attributes are out in Skyrim, and bosmer/khajiit start with higher sneak/lockpick/pickpocket, so they can allocate more points into other side-skills they may need.

(Going mostly off speculation and past experiences with ES games, stats for each race aren't confirmed)

They aren't lizards, they're mammals. Have briasts, generate own body heat, ect.

Nord = Viking

Redguard = Standard-type Jack-of-all-trades weapon user

Imperial = Combatant/archer (My favorite 1) They look like humans AND I like using them as Stealth users)

Bosmer = Thief/archer

Dark Elf = Destruction/Summoning magic user

High Elf = Alteration/Summoning etc... Magic User

Argonian = Thief/Short-range combatant

Khajiit = Thief/Fighters

Just my thoughts. But play as you like.

It's really dependent on skill; not race.

Humanoid implies just nords and imperials, right? Bretons are half elf, all the other elves are, well, elves, and Redguards are...not human, from what I understand. I don't know my lore better than to say that.

when it comes to stealth there are as far as i see it only 2 good options khajiit or bosmer khajiit if your the kind of thief that likes to slip daggers into people backs bosmer if nailing heads to nearby objects via bow and arrow more suits your mood both are very stealthy its more or less which weapons do you prefer.

sure skill ultimately is the deciding factor but a races bonuses are definitely a factor you can easily be a good thief as a khajiit or a bosmer but as a orc or nord you will have to work hard to become as good as a khajiit or a bosmer.

from what I've read race isn't going to mean much in Skywind. You don't specialize skills or have attribute points... you just level up what you use. So you could be a sneaky thief then just decide to start leveling up something like destruction and eventually be just as good as any mage... I dunno how I feel about that. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
