Who will be our "Ulysses?"

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:00 am

No worries, knowing Bethesda it will be someone who is evil.
Because he's evil.
Because he once wore a top hat.
And had a mustache.
That he twirled.
:teehee:

But hey, no worries, once you add 150+ mods, it will be a semi-decent dungeon crawler

There′s something about Cosworth that puzzles me. I bet he who is pulling the strings all the time.

A second Ulysses, except this time he's an African-Canadian ex-Minuteman messenger, with even longer dread locks.

As awesome as Ulysses was, I hope he's not in Fallout at all. Here was this obsidian character who was such a big part of the game and we have to wait till the final DLC to find out who he is? God that was stupid. Also, as others have said Ulysses was from New Vegas which is an Obsidian creation. Although even if it was a Bethesda character, that doesn't mean bethesda is required to include a character like him in the next game. I also think its way too early to start guessing who a Ulysses character is because as we know a Ulysses character could take 5 DLC to reveal...

I'm having a hard time thinking of someone who would have a beef with us right out the gate since the E3 presentation seems to indicate we essentially took a 200 year cat nap.

Maybe our...Ulysses...or Rival...or whatever...will vary depending on our faction affiliation.

Read the lore books m8, they explain who Miraak was, what he did, and where he has been fairly well.

Spoilers for those who've been living under rocks and have sadly missed the trailer & E3 footage, but I've heard theories that the main villain in the story might be a thawed out, grown-up "Shaun."

Naturally, I shuddered when I heard that.

Well, to quote the band Bad Religion...

"Oh take me to the herding ground, where all good men are trampled down. Just to settle a bet that can never be won, between a prideful father and his son."

In honesty, it's a classic tale, pitting father/mother/parent against son...

I mean...Depending how long he's been out there, the boy may have seen some s--- that really warped him.

To quote Tombstone,

"People change, Doc."

Oh dear, I absolutely do NOT want another Ulysses. He was in love with the sound of his monotone voice, could not speak in whole sentences, and berated you for But-Thou-Must actions to get through to him.

He was an avatar for Chris Avellone's preachy deconstructive cynicism. I could not stand Ulysses, and like Lonesome Road, I would not play any Fallout game or DLC with such a character in it (again), especially from Obsidian. Consider it a meta-take on "you didn't have to walk this path" preaching that he gives.

I for one am glad Avellone left Obsidian, because I could also not stand his other author avatar, Kreia from KOTOR 2 for much of the same reason. I gave up on a recent attempt to play through KOTOR 2 again because I got sick and tired of her harping.

UlysseS was horrible. The very definition of smug writing. Someone on the dev team read a book, once, one book, and he thinks the nonsensical ramblings are genious. And so do the fans. They think these pseudo-intellectual, shallow monologues reflect good writing. It's just plain horrible. Very much in line with the FO1 fans who like to bash Beth.

IIRC Ulysses was originally going to be a Legion-oriented companion you could get. Then Obsidian ran out of time or something, and turned him into the antagonist of Lonesome Road.

I always headcannon that HE actually accidentally caused the destruction in the Divide, went crazy from grief, and coped with it by transferring the blame to you. Which would explain his ramblings, which don't make a lot of sense to me, and are not very entertaining either. I usually let him live, as he does manage to evoke at least some pity from me.

In Fallout4? My guess would be the kid. Which would be OK with me, as long as you can ignore him if desired(some of my characters never walk the Lonesome Road).

There's a good chance we'll get something like that again, except probably with our son. Hopefully our son will have more reason for being an ass than our other two rivals, who both had more angst than a goth shopping in Hot Topic.

That is such a fantastic headcanon that I'm stapling it to my own.

Ulysses did end up being a bit Philosophy 101, didn't he? That said, while I didn't like the execution of the character, I did enjoy the concept. Pity it didn't quite work.

Well, there's the tried-but-true "You've been gone my entire life and just NOW want to cultivate a relationship with me? Do you know the HELL I have been through since you dissapeared? And now you expect everything to be fine?!?" card.

Considering Shaun is likely a 200 year old Ghoul who knows nothing but the Hell of the Wastes, he'd have a more justified use of this speech than... really, anyone else.

Please not again a character that was completly different planned and hyped up from the fanbase until he ends up in a "legendary" creature that babbles the whole time nonsens and only is used to let the developer rant how much he hates the players who play his game.

I really didn't get the whole Ulysses character. To me he just seemed like some random nut that held a grudge.

I couldn't stand his rambling.....his dogma is such bull-[censored]. He has no vision of his own, then sentences people who do to death because their vision fails his ridiculous standards. He condemns you for your inadvertent part in a tragedy, then tries to commit an atrocity and force you to take part in it. I don't know if this guy is a loon, or a cruel parody of extreme Left-Wingers, but one run through was enough for me.

If that's the case, I'd feel bad for him. I mean, sure, you get eternal life, but your skin starts falling off and you look like a zombie.

Hopefully none, in Base Game New Vegas you didn't really have an antagonist besides Benny but that's more subjective. You choose who your bad guys, I'm hoping for something like that in Fallout 4.

More like a random nut who held a grudge, and tried to sound smart by talking about divided nations, choosing sides, and Ulysses S. Grant. Then he tries to nuke the Mojave because...reasons.

I honestly didn't get his character at all.

This is a Bethesda game not Obsidian. I don't recall any deep in depth characters from a Beth game.

I'll be very disappointed if I have to deal with daddy issues again only from the other side. They say you can't choose family ... but that doesn't stop me from trying.

(Although I admit I'm intrigued by the idea of a vindictive ghoul son. Shades of Dean Domino, anyone?)
