Who will be picking up the Survival Guide

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 7:49 am

Hi guys,
I'm torn wether or not I will be buying the survival guide. On one hand I love stumbling on to quests and secrets on my own and fear of I get the guide I will rely heavily on it (which I don't want) but on the other hand I am OCD when playing a BGS game and have to get everything!! Lol

What is this community thoughts?
You guys grabbing the guide or or leaving it behind?

(Pls note : my apologies if this topic has already been around. I am using the mobile version and unable to search.)

Topic has been around, but so what.

I am getting a guide and will probably look at the character creation stuff. I won't get into the detailed quest info until I've played through.

I prefer a nice hardcover book instead of online guides, but I use both sometimes.

I'll pick it up much later, after I think I've exhausted all of the content in the game. I don't want a guide book spoiling the thrill of discovery for me. I just bought the Prima guide for FO3 this past month. It's a nicely put-together book, and a great keepsake for one of my favourite games.

In the short term, I'm more interested in the art book for Fallout 4. I'll probably ask my wife to get me that for X-mas.

I don't buy gaming guides. I prefer to discover things for myself.

I already pre-ordered the hardcover Collector's Edition. :lmao:

I won't read too deeply until after I have played enough of the game. I just like to have nice collector's items, and this book looks really good. I will also be helping in writing the user-created mega guide on Giant Bomb. We did one for Fallout 3 and, although we didn't quite finish, it was loads of fun to create.

Yes,

but I'll use it as a resource only if I get stuck (really stuck).

After I finish the game (3 months?) then I'll take a proper look at it...

Not getting it. I'll explore myself and if I need clues there's the wiki.

I bought the guide for New Vegas, but never really used it. I mainly prefer to figure things out myself. And if I ever needed help I would just use the wiki anyway.

The guide was always something I'd just read during my spare time between my spare time. Like bathroom reading material. :disguise:

But I don't think I'll get this one this time around.

It was a toss up for me, so I decided ditch the guide in favor of the F4 Art Book

I don't buy guides as a rule. I like to explore the game new on my own and make a few mistakes. Then on later play throughs I'll use wiki.

Agreed. Collectors enjoy the behind the scenes and in-depth informational lore. When you have kids who enjoy the series, these books just make the experience that much richer. I won't be peaking in it until I have finished/unlocked all of the game. Always fun to see what I missed after the fact.

I have been undecided, but if Bethesda gets a good share of the profits from the guided I will probably get it.

Anyone know how much Bethesda gets from the guide book? or is it all for the company that makes it and Beth only gets a licensing fee?

Probably the latter if Prima is making the guide book as they generally do. I don't believe Bethesda Softworks has created guides for their games since maybe Morrowind. Honestly, I like discovering and finding things on my own. I can always use the internet if there was something, in particular, I wanted to know. Guides made sense in the 90s, but not so much in the world today unless you are a collector.

I'll be going over to Gamestop maybe tomorrow to see if I can pre-order it from them. If I can, I'll do so and, hopefully, pick it up on launch day. I'll have to wait for the game though. I tried to pre-order the Pip-Boy Edition from them but found out that they only offered it through their online store, at full price, no in-store pick-up. I was a little bummed, but went ahead and purchased it since I had the money.
