Who would like to be able to summon a portal to oblivion

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:09 pm

i think it would be cool to be able to do a quest to go to oblivion again, just a side quest and maybe acquire the spell to open a portal anytime you want to say a player owned lair in oblivion or a dark realm, like mankar camoran's to your own private evil lair just like one of my favorite mods for oblivion. (and make the portal effect look like mankar camorans portal, not the whole rocks coming out of the ground effect, but that cool looking orange and yellow flame-like portal)
EDIT: if your a dark sorcerer type character like me, than summoning dark portals fits the bill and would be an asset to sorcerers.

EDIT: Perhaps one of the dragon phrases you could find in oblivion?

The problem with that, is in Oblivion--the game--resulted in Oblivion being sealed off from Tamriel. It's part of the lore. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but if something like that was to be implimented (and I'm sure modders could do it) it would have to be some epic quest to discover a way into oblivion, as simple magic spells or portals are no longer supposed to work. If they did the entire Oblivion story would be moot, and everything you did in Oblivion would have been for nothing.

thats not entirely true martin said that stable portals like gates were impossible, but not temporary ones

Oblivion is TES' version of Hell, so it's not completely out there to suggest there could be a quest that takes place in the Oblivion plane. You just might not go through TES:IV style Oblivion gates to get there.

anyone think maybe creating a lair in ''Soul Cairn'' that you could summon a portal to, would be cool? (for those who dont know, soul cairn is like a pocket realm, governed by no daedra or divine, it is but a realm of tombs where the dead roam free, and controlled by a race calling themselves the ideal masters, its from battlespire though ive never played it i have read a little) it would be the ideal place for a dark sorcerer necromancer/lich could take refuge from the world of man, and being able to summon a portal there would be awesome

I really wouldn't like it. Oblivion was prolly my least favourite part of oblivion, and I alwaus found it boring and rather tedious. THen again, that may well have been related to the game and not the place.

Guys, Oblivion isn't permanently shut. It's just that they stopped Mehrunes Dagon from popping gates up wherever he liked. You could still summon Daedra and on occasion access portals like the one to SI.

Totally agree. The time I spent in the 'Oblivion' part of 'Oblivion' was always a chore to be dealt with as quickly as possible.

yeah i liked how it was a nice change from the sceneryl. hell and most of all how challenging it could be at times, heck the only time i ever really died was when i went there, please bring back a slice of oblivion :obliviongate:

EDIT: does anyone think it would be cool have to travel to oblivion to find a dragon phrase?

No

The less I have to do with Mehrunes Dagon's realm of Oblivion the better

although I wouldn't mind visiting another realm.

Only if by doing so we would need the Staff of Chaos. Then yes.

I would love a little dark lair of my own.
A nice little (cozy?) tomb/croft to call my own and not have daedra or gods bother me.

PS; Your really into this whole Lich/necromancer stuff aren't you? Your posts radiate around it.
Not that I don't like having a nice necromancer playthrough everynow and then.

Kinda broad topic really. I'm not a buff on TES lore, but even *I* know that Dagon's part of Oblivion is only one of many realms. (like the Shivering Isles are Sheogorath's realm) So while I think we've seen enough of the fire-and-brimstone Oblivion, nothing's to say that we can't visit the domain of one of the other Daedra Princes.

Personaly summon a portal probaly not, because the general world of Oblivion did not seem all that great.

However If they do like a side addon like they did with Shivering Isles. Ie a portal gets opened up to the world of one of the other Daedric Princes, then that I would most certainly enjory.

EDIT: i would really like to see vaermina's realm, and molag bal

In TES IV you didn't seal off the Realms (note the plural) of Oblivion entirely. Proof of that is that you can later go to the Shivering Isles. What you did do was dispel whatever preternatural forces allowed so many stable portals to be opened at once so easily.
"From what I know about Daedric magic such stable portals simply can't exist. Something must have changed. The old rules no longer apply." (Martin Septim)
What he later did simply returned things to normal so that "the old rules" applied again. That said, it's fully possible that you'll get such a quest in Skyrim in the same manner you got a quest from Peryite in Oblivion. (For those of you who don't know, he's one of the Daedric Princes you can get a quest from by giving an offering at his statue.)

Sure, I want to be able to go to Oblivion again.

Just not Mehrunes Dagon's bit.

Yeah, as long as it isn't Dagon's plane of Oblivion. I wonder if we'll still be able to summon daedra....

What? You just agreed with him, and yet somehow stated the exact opposite of his opinion. O_o

No not a portal to Oblivion.

But I do like the idea of having your house with you at all times. What about a tent you could carry in your inventory, like in Red Dead Redemption?

Seeing the picture of Azura on the GI site made me think how cool it would be to have to be transported to stand before the throne or whatever of each Daedric Prince, rather than just activating the statues to get their quests. Wouldn't need a whole plane, just a room or backdrop. Imagine how weird Hermaecus Mora's place would be, not to adventure in, but just to have a glimpse.

You could do Shivering Isles after the main quest and it's part of oblivion.

I too would also like to see a new plane of Oblivion rather than just the Deadlands of Mehrunes Dagon.
