Who would love the possibility of 1 hit kills?

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:02 am

Exactly. Stealth will surely have one hit kills, otherwise the animation wouldn't trigger. What I hope is besides the stealth critical hits there will be "normal" combat critical hits that result in 1 shot kills, particularily when the opponent is weaker.

Yes, it's called sneak multiplier or attacking an enmy who is much weaker than you.

Certain weapons (daggers) get a massive damage multiplier from sneak now. Much larger than Oblivion.
Instant, random 1-hit kills is the ability of Mehrunes razor.

Ya I think there should be one hit kills but to make the difficulty aiming for the bow etc extremly tough. Where it took both mouse or controller skill and game experience

I would be opposed to the inclusion of any sort of programmed randomness. However, a damage bonus for blows/shots to the head or neck could work well. I could see this being potentially problematic, however. Those players that are able to pull off these sorts of hits consistently would perform much better than those who are unable to, and hence either the former group would find the game too easy, or the latter group too hard.

It depends on the enemy. I wouldn't want a Dragon to be able to get killed in one hit. The only way I can see this being implemented is with the Dagger, if you get behind somebody.

Its called Sneak X3

This. The game already has "critical hits".

And definitely No to the "people hit in the head should die" type "realism" silliness.

Now bear with me cause I guarantee there might be a flaw in my argument.

From what I have seen in the trailer there is detection for the physical position
that a weapon hits something, (the axe hitting the skeletons head and his head
recoiling).

Now on top of detecting that, if the creation engine also detected whether or not
that hit was to armor or bare skin, bone, scales, etc. And then detect if that spot
is a one hit kill shot zone. I dont know about you but that sounds like an excessive
amount of processing per NPC. And would probably open the game up to quite
a few bugs.

I dont know, I personally would prefer the old style if it meant the game could
handle more NPCs on screen and in combat, while still running smoothly.
Having a 'chance' of one hit kills sounds impractical and open the game to
people who want to save and reload on boss fights, where as detecting one
hit kill zones makes more sense...

Although now that I think about it a lot of games can detect kill zones and run
just fine. Hrmmm... Maybe it could be done.

Enemies should definitely have a weakness. Being able to lob the head of your opponent or some other fatal move should be possible, then again i have no clue how they should introduce this to the game. In 'Might and Magic - Dark Messiah' you built up your special bar by doing normal attacks, if the bar is full your next hit is basically a one hit kill. Aim it at the head and it's gone, aim it at their side and you'll chop of an arm and a leg perhaps, aim it at the stomach and you'll impale him. You also had power attacks which when you did a critical hit were also able to lob heads off etc.

I have no idea how to implement it into the game though, I'm sure Bethesda can think of something :D!

Only for stealth kills, because then opponents should be able to 1 hit kill you too. Finishers yes, once their health is at a certain point. I'd like instant kill for headshot with a bow, but then your enemies would have to have the same advantage. Too many save and loads if your opponents can instant kill you.

No thanks. 1 hit kills make for very uninteresting combat.

I′m up for one hit kills ONLY if NPC′s can do it too. If I can take down that level 100 dark-over-lord-king-of-worms-powered-by-dagoth-ur & hircine-master-of-pain-super-killer-with-the-staff-of-chaos-pwner-of-dragons in one hit to a weak spot such as the neck, then I want the common bandit to pose the same threat to me and my weak spots when it′s my turn to roam Nirn as a demi god.

For humans and human sized monsters, this is a good idea. I don't like it on big stuff like dragons and giants and mammoths.

Don't worry, broski, Todd had totally got your back! Skyrim has got insta-kill stealth attacks like splintercell and finishing moves like godofwar. It's totally awesum. Now they just need to get rid of all this gay fantasy [censored], right bro?

I like it as long as you're not able to get lucky and one hit a dragon at level 1.

Or to get lucky and chain like 5-6 in a row

Here's a post I made a few days ago on the topic of bows being tweaked before I continue on: It sounds like their trading some of the dice rolling thats now become a large staple of RPGs( But not synonymous just as Islam and Arabs/Africans or Desert culture and adaptations.) for a bit more realism along with Bethesda saying they'd added depth of the brutality brought by violence and overall more visceral combat which isn't a bad thing when your doing stealth like things rather than fighting a mini/boss, etc. On the other hand its true that I hope not every good shot is an instant kill. People in the real world can take a few arrows piercing their bodies and survve. Its to each their own. /End quote. Now then as we see some parts have been tweaked to make more sense or to aid stealth characters and make their builds more effective and jobs more visceral. This is good. On the other hand I doubt fights themselves allow one-hit kills unless your like a level 30 and you go to a level 5-10 dungeon. In which case then you can stomp the enemies easily is what I figure. If its possible to one hit kill with everything in general then Bethesda Game Studios's an idiot. Which I doubt they are.

I definitely think there will be some of this in Skyrim, specifically the bows have been tweaked to be more powerful (of course, how much more powerful when it might have taken 30 arrows to kill something in Oblivion)

Basically, there are some strikes which should ALWAYS kill a man-sized target in one shot. Thrusts to the chest, throat, or cuts to the throat are rarely not deadly, and even if not instant, they incapacitate the person struck. This is also true of arrow shots to the throat/chest. You might survive an arrow to the gut and definitely one to the shoulder, but if it hits your esophagus, lung, heart, or jugular, you are going down.

The only things that prevent this are armor, and skill at deflection. Now, if you're talking about trolls or giants, they are more likely to survive these kinds of wounds, but only to a point. That's why I'd hope they've animated "parrying" attacks, otherwise, if an unarmored guy takes more than 3 or 4 hits (assuming some hit arm/leg) to go down, I'd be dissappointed.

I always loved hitting a person, who isn't wearing a helmet, in the head with a sneak attack arrow in OB.. beautiful, silent, one hit kills.

Though if they had a helmet on.. it wasn't a kill shot even if you hit their head.

I hope this makes a return in Skyrim

No.
We already have possibility of one-shot kills and don't need more of them, especially not random ones and when others can't do that to you.
Also, it would be more realistic, but it would also be more stupid.
Remember that this is a game and there is line when game becomes too realistic and boring.
Again, no!
