I posted this in my http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159301-dragons/ but I guess the conversation about Dragon Voice Actors is staying on this thread?

I sorta agree with the expensive voice actors concern.

There is really no need to pay a ton out of their budget on voice acting for just the dragons, after all the NPC's have to sound cool too! I think they should pick someone who can do multiple dragon voices by themselves. I think Steven Blum coud be that somebody, he's done tons of different roles before that all sound different. The Mass Effect bunch (Steven Barr, Keith Szarabajka, & Peter Jessop) all sound like viable options and could probably do more then one dragon too.
Michael McConnohie is another one, he's done multiple voices for WoW. Keith David too.

John Rhys-Davies, Brian Blessed, Ray Winstone, Ted Williams are all okay options. I don't think any of them would be too costly but they haven't done too much work in video game character voices either. John Hurt has a special voice, not the typical low or deep one but I think he definitely could fit a dragon.

As for Alduin that's the most important one to get right. I actually thought James Horan sounded really good as Smaug in that video link I wouldn't be upset if he did Alduin. Kevin Grevioux would be another good option. As would Ron Perlman & Mickey Rourke, both have already worked with Bethesda.

Guys like Frank Welker, Peter Cullen, Sean Connery, Christopher Lee, Michael Dorn, James Earl Jones are not practical and would cost a whole lot more for basically the same performance. Although more people are bound to recognize their voice.

From what I got from the GI video about the dragon voice work, they wanted a different voice actor for every dragon. And I doubt that Beth had so much of a budget to hire all these guys, build a new engine from scratch, and having their team hard at work for 5 years now.

I really dont imagine skyrim with talking dragons,i think it would be more appropriate to have some dragon-kin language which will be translated when heard in text dialog

If the dragon must talk, it should sound like Neil Patrick Harris.

At first I thought this a silly thread, then I saw this. Now I am convinced it is an awesome silly thread.

it depends on the dragon if its some lesser dragon (a small horse sized dragon without wings) then id say whoever did the voice of the theron guards in gears and obviously a full fledged dragon should have a booming commanding voice

Has anyone mentioned Ian McShane? I didn't notice him in any of the posts. He has a slightly gravelled, powerful sounding voice.

For those who don't know he voiced Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda, Iofur Rakinson in The Golden Compass, and played Lovejoy in the tv series of the same name as well as being Don Lockwood on Dallas. I can easily picture him voicing a dragon, Alduin or otherwise.

I picked other becuase I think that Bethesda will select someone who's voice is unique but wouldn't be too mainstream like some of the other choices.

Christopher Lee would just make me think of Saruman...

Saruman Dooku, fighting Gandalf with his red lightsabre. :D
