Who would survive longest in the Courier's shoes?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 12:00 pm

Hey guys, sorry for the delay on the MR playthrough but I've been REALLY busy lately so my posts may be a little late in the future. Anyways here's what's happened so far:

After one of the craziest Jet-trips of his life, Motor-Runner awakes in Doc Mitchell's home recovering from the run-in with the [censored] with the checkered suit. How the hell did he let this happen? And how the hell did none of his Fiends stop him from signing on as a Courier. Only God knows what they were hopped up at the time... Thankfully, depite having a massive bounty on his head (thanks to the Facists), it seems like no one's recognized him.

Motor-Runner soon learns of the growing tensions between Goodsprings and the small-time gangsters, the Powder-Gangers. Having no where to shack up for supplies and Chems, MR helps the PGs take out the town and uses it to get some quick loot and get in at the former NCR Correctional Facility. As soon as he's allowed in MR starts scowering the place for anything he can knick and has to settle on one dose of jet on the desk of the gang's leader. MR grabs it and legs it out of there, the whole Powder-Gang nipping at his feet.

At Primm, MR is met with a terrible sight: NCR flags. Luckily the facist look-out doesn't recognize Motor-Runner and informs him that a splinter group of the PGs have shacked up in the hotel across the town and the pigs hadn't attempted to sweep the place yet. Supplies are running low so MR takes his chances with the convicts and ventures over. Seems like the best place to find some Chems before hitting Novac - the Fiends tell stories of the mountains of drugs you can swim through there. MR, slips by the rest of the NCR fortifications and doses up on the little jet he could find in the prison and off the bodies of the gnagers who were stupid enough to follow him to Primm's borders. After finishing off the pathetic group of convicts in the hotel MR finds what he was looking for on the 2nd floor: enough Psycho, Jet and Med-Ex to hold him until he gets back to Vegas. MR takes his opportunity to execute the pathetic pig the convicts has napped and kept prisoner in the kitchen.

*I realized I couldn't make a very good MR without downloading a good raider skin mods so I had to settle on just giving him the right race and facial hair.
*Level 3 right now

Lucius has killed Benny, received the Chip, spoken to House and reported back to Caesar, he has received a mission to blow up the bunker, which he did, and now to assassinate House, though he thinks this would be more Vulpes Fort'e he's going to give it a go!

Caesar just helped Captain Curtis blow up the monorail. In order to create a scapegoat for the incident, he placed incriminating evidence in Private Henshaw's footlocker and then murdered the private, making it look like he committed suicide. Caesar's next objective is to take Mr. House out of the picture, which will most likely be done by way of Power Fist.

Update on Motor-Runner:

-After leaving Primm and avoiding the rest of the NCR garrison there, Motor-Runner made his way towards Nipton, dispatching a few Convicts and small-time gangsters known as the Vipers.
-He avoids the NCR's Mojave Outpost like the plague
-On the outskirts of the town MR takes out a woman who had just killed a traveler for his Sarsapirilla Star caps, MR is aware of the legends involving the caps, as the old Sunset Sarsapirilla factory is located in Fiend territory. His people often ambush tourists trying to get to the factory in search of the mysterious treasure
-Much to MR's frustration, Nipton's population was destroyed and the town burned by a bunch of Legion facists (same old oppressive [censored] as the NCR, just in skirts). MR was hoping to stock up on chems and supplies there and move on towards Vegas and his territory. In a fit of rage, MR doses up on the last of his Med-X and psycho and kills the Legion troops and loots their bodies
- The road from Nipton to Novac is crwaling with facist troops so MR equips a head cover and tries to blend in with a traveling caravan

-After some quick trading in Novac(no chems to be found. Damn), MR high-tails it out of there due to the somewhat strong NCR presence in the area
-At Boulder City, MR meets up with some Khans (the people who supply his Fiends with their Chems) in a sticky situation, surrounded by NCR troopers. MR helps his brothers-in-arms shoot their way out of the ruins
-Now on the borders of New Vegas and near his old territory, MR makes his way towards Red Rock Canyon, the home of the Khans, in to purchse much-needed Chems. MR his now suffering from withdrawl from Hydra, Psycho and Medx.
-The road to Red Rock proves to be near lethal, as MR kills a young Deathclaw, and runs from a large group of Vipers and Legionary Assassins. MR reaches Red Rock low on Stims, Chems and Ammo, but he gets there alive.
-MR buys out the Khan chem supply and agrees to help out his allies in a gesture of goodwill, alliance and to undermine their common-enemy, the NCR

Joshua has been hanging on just barely. Between seeing Nipton and continuing onto Novac he became Vilified with the Legion and then, due to some very unfortunate circumstance ran into a group legion assassins who I was forced to run from. (Those guys in centurion armor are so scary :nope: ) But then making it to Novac I recruited Boone as a companion aslong as going back to Primm to obtain ED-E. Then I set my sights on the Broc-flower cave where I once again almost died after being swarmed by rats. But after eventually obtaining what I came for, I set off for Boulder City to deal with the Khans. I am currently Lv 9 and on my way to vegas! (I really hope I dont run into another group of assassins.)

Last Motor-Runner update for today (gotta love Sundays...) :

-Motor-Runner helped out around the Khan camp to build goodwill between factions (not without looting their drug labs of everything he could get his hands on and cleaning out their shop), ultimately convincing them not only to break their alliance with the Facists with Skirts, but to attack both the NCR and the Legion at the future Bttle of Hoover Dam
- MR helped out Sam Cooke and his powder gangers in Vault 19 clear out the sulfur caves to help them make the bombs necessary to harass the facists. MR convinces the Khans to accept Cooke's people into their ranks
-Motor-Runner finally returned home to Vault 3 and ran into a familiar face...

-He disguised himself and entered the Strip using the NCR monorail
-MR convinced Swank to let him keep his trusty Ripper and cut down Benny and his bodyguards for all to see in the Tops Casino
-MR moved onto Freeside after hearing about the situation between the Kings and the NCR and helped kick the facists out of the neighborhood

http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/505765665302111170/8B963E5033DF824D0917EC331B1994627841DA30/

*Level 11 right now
*TONS of close calls so far - I barely made it out alive after running into a couple of young deathclaws while doing some Khans quests. Luckily a huge stockpile of frag mines got me out of that sticky situation. While clearing out the caves under Vault 19, MR nearly bought it when he ran into a group of 4 nightstalkers, the geckos were easily dispatched with a fully-repaired Maria

Well that's that. After ousting House from New Vegas to bring about the Age of the Fiend,

Motor-Runner made an attack on Camp McCarran, hoping to consolidate his hold on the region and finally end the fight against the oppressive facists. He was unsuccessful and fell during the assault. :(

http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/505765665310157224/8532A58119B559C0ECA0ECFEEE455F76403EE87E/

So ends Motor-Runner's DiD playthrough, but a very successful one it was. Motor-Runner was able to support those fighting the NCR around the Mojave, including the Powder Gangers, Sam Cooke's crew's effort to build bigger and better bombs, the Kings, and the Khans. The Khan alliance with the Legion was torn assunder and their Chem Lab's productivity was helped immensely, allowing the relationship between the Khans and the Fiends to stay healthy. MR was also able to convince Papa Khan to attack both the NCR and the Legion at the future battle at Hoover Dam.

MR killed House and place himself head of New Vegas, ushering in the Age of the Fiend.

*Boy was defeting securitrons super easy with a fully repaired Ripper... That anti-DT effect is BRUTAL
*I'll definitely continue this game while roleplaying as Motor-Runner, it's been very fun. :D

If we got a new or updated roster of characters uploaded I might be persuaded to take a swing at this, I know it's been going on for a while this "Dead is Dead" thing but I'd love to try it.

Just make a character, and ask him to add it to the roster, people like Papa Khan aren't taken, Cachino, n' Big Sal n' such others? Mortimer? Ambassador Crocker, Lanius?

Nice. Though I'd have to play through the whole game for Kimball's suit .

Yeah bro sounds good, there are others as well, but like you may have difficulties, with Nero, Big Sal, and Cachino, cause the NCR are customers, and Legion own em' pretty much, unless you have Cachino in charge of course... But like i'm saying, you can't exactly be hostile to either, up to a point really? If you're role playing the characters to the max that is. Though there's Swank, the guy in the tops dance hall, Oliver Swansick, cause let's face it! He won only lottery that matters!

I say someone should take a Samuel character?! 188 Slop n' Shop, and he's ventriliquist, ' Feeling Thirsty? '

:( Well, at least Motor-Runner had a good run while it lasted. You stuck to the RP very well, so congratulations on that. Unfortunately it was Motor-Runner's brash actions and decisions that led to his death, but still, it made perfect sense for what a Fiend would do in the Courier's situation. If you want another character anytime soon, let me know.

Wow, Christine's build is pretty damn good then, and you're pretty damn good at dead is dead. Good luck with Lonesome Road, although you already made it through Dead Money, which imo is more challenging.

What level is Christine at the moment? You're probably the farthest along out of the remaining people in the challenge, Caesar is only at level 14 right now.

1.) Hmm... I might try a Fantastic playthrough.
2.)He absolutely should NOT have science as a tag skill though .

1.) I'll mark you down, if you change your mind let me know.
2.) Ahem...he has a theoretical degree in Physics :deal: I would say speech is definitely a tag skill, since he talked his way into his job at Helios, and then you might as well have science as another tag skill. For the third tag skill...I'm not sure, maybe barter?

If we got a new or updated roster of characters uploaded I might be persuaded to take a swing at this, I know it's been going on for a while this "Dead is Dead" thing but I'd love to try it.

If you find a character whose stats are available or if you find a character whose stats are unavailable but for whom we can come up with some logical stats (like what Dinky did when he picked Lucius) then let me know and I'll add that character to the roster.

Just make a character, and ask him to add it to the roster, people like Papa Khan aren't taken, Cachino, n' Big Sal n' such others? Mortimer? Ambassador Crocker, Lanius?

Yeah, pretty much, any of those could be fun to take for this challenge. If you want an Enclave character, I found a few Enclave character's stats:

Colonel Autumn
dike Richardson (Thanks Martyr)
Enclave Gate Guard from Fallout 2
One of Richardson's Secret Service
Enclave Patrolman (this one is kind of overpowered)

.......

Caesar made it to level 14 today and managed to make contact with the Boomers. He also helped Lucius repair a newly acquired Howitzer and later paid a visit to the Legion's safe house. Then Caesar set off to rid the world of Mr. House and make way for his Legion to take control of New Vegas.

I had an epic screenshot of Caesar standing next to Mr. House, but Steam has been having connection problems the last few days so I wasn't able to upload it. :(

Thanks, you're right: when sticking to the RP one isn't left with many options with Motor-Runner. After helping the Khans' drug operations and pushing them away from the Legion, helping the Vault 19 Gangers, and the kings, there really isn't much to do as a Fiend other than dosing up on every last bit of Chems you've stockpiled and chansawing everyone in Camp McCarran in a final blaze of glory.

I think I may try for a Papa Khan run. He'll allow for that same Tribal feel that MR had, but would allow for a lot more political intrigue+questing. I'll go with these stats (they're his in-game stats +1 to allow for the 40 points every Courier gets, plus extra to Endurance):

7 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Strength, 6 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Perception, 6 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Endurance, 4 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Charisma, 4 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Intelligence, 7 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Agility, 6 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Luck

I added Papa Khan to the OP, and your right, I think he would be good for a play through that has a tribal feel to it while still maintaining some intelligent decision making and involvement in the politics of the Mojave.

What were you thinking for his tag skills? I was thinking maybe Melee Weapons, Unarmed, and Guns? I don't know though, Survival or even Speech could be decent choices too.

Definitely Melee and Guns as Papa uses a knife and a submachine gun ingame. I'll throw in speech as the third - it struck me while doing the Khan quests a Motor-Runner how patient and diplomatic Papa is, despite oftentimes being blinded by his hate for the NCR. I'm really quite surprised how low his ingame Charisma is to be honest, considering how loyal his tribe is to him.

Well today was unfortunate. After being a good Samaritan and assisting all of free-side except for one more mission, fixing Rex for the king by bringing him to Jacobstown. All was going well and I had Rex and Boone accompanying me for the trip. But sadly I made too big of a name for myself (Which was kinda out of character to begin with, Joshua would of probably kept a low-profile if he ever found himself in Mojave again). Caesar's Legion sent yet another group of assassins which lead to my untimely death. But dang it was an epic fight. In the end it was me versus one of the last centurions wielding a super sledge, but my 44. Magnum wasn't enough to stop him from charging. Then, after this unfortunate turn off events, Joshua was brought back to Caesar then thrown back into the Grand Canyon A second time. But I will return, with a burning vengeance! (And a lower profile.)

Either way I had a really great time with this and it was interesting to play as a character so unique as Joshua Graham. I think I might have to give it another try later. Also a few other of my notable good deeds were using Helios-1 to give energy to free-side, and helping out many people in Novac, and delivering Justice to the fiend that sold Boone's wife into slavery. When I finally died I was lv 16, preparing to go to Zion and meeting myself but sadly it never was meant to be.

Hey, Tycho, since Dean Domino died a while ago, could you add Cannibal Johnson to the OP (I plan on playing a young version), I think it would be fun to wear remnants armor without breaking character. Here's his wiki page: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cannibal_Johnson (which contains his SPECIAL stats)

Edit: OR, if you know where to find Sergeant Dornan's stats that would be even better because his wiki page doesn't have them.

Heh, yeah, but the whole point of his character is that he has no idea what he's doing when it comes to science . Though you're right that excluding science makes it difficult to pick 3 appropriate tag skills, barter was something I thought of as well.

Update- Lucius wiped out House, but almost died to the Securitrons in the proecess, ( almost shed a tear having to kill House ) he's reinstated cannibalism in the White glove Society, had Heck killed, and killed Ambassador Crocker, y'know while he was in the area, may'swell :P

He's about to traverse into Zion in hopes of finding Graham, though he thinks this is a Frumentarii mission again, he won't deny what Caesar orders... He's travelling light too in a grunt suit, so he doesn't display Legion and give up the game right away, he's just hoping if he does find Graham, he won't recognize him....

Currently I am at level 39 Tycho. I did a lot of killing of wild life as well as farming materials.

I tend to play dead is dead more often ever sense I found FO3 a bit boring after awhile, moved on to Very Hard, then started on DiD Very Hard. Doing the same thing now mainly for the challenge. Just got use to it over time I guess.

Half way into Lonesome road so far, the Tunnlers almost got me at a point. Though I will be using up some fat mines on those Death claws ahead soon. Though I have also saved up some Tiny Tots for the.. possibility of plan B.

Oh, as I said earlier I have only been using Rifles. So far I have a few explosives on me, some mines, the unique Gauss Rifle, the GRA fully modded Anti-Material Rifle, & my charter's .308 rifle. Wanted to stick with role playing a bit, so that is why I am using her rifle. That it it weighs a hell of a lot less..

Well, I'll get back to you later on if I make it past the rest of the Lonesome road. Already decided to let Ulysses live due to him saving my charter. No nuking anyone though, seemed to fit her even though the NCR did a few harsh things towards the BOS.
