Who would you consider a "boss" in the MQ?

His CTD attack is devastating!

An attack so powerful it can rupture the continuity of time itself.

I don't really feel like the idea of "bosses" applies to Morrowind so much, but if asked I would go along mostly with what others have already said. Dagoth Gares and Dagoth Ur certainly from Morrowind main quest, and though the other high level Ash Vampires should probably count, they don't really feel like it to me without Greater Dwemer Ruins.

Not in the MQ, and he doesn't evem boss over anyone but himself, but I love the badassishness of the Hila Oad bridge terrorist.

Despite the name, I'd say that character isn't unique enough to qualify as a boss. I mean, he seems to pretty much be a generic bandit, no unique model, absolutely no personality or background, no dialog, no unique items, nothing. In general, I'd only qualify a character as a "boss" if that character has something setting him apart from generic enemies.

Although, even the enemies that I'd actually consider to be "bosses" in Morrowind don't really feel like it, I mean characters like Dagoth Ur, the Ash Vampires, and maybe some of the notable characters you fight during the game. I call them "bosses" because they're unique characters you have to defeat to advance the story, and are usually somewhat stronger than generic enemies, though you might hardly notice this, depending on what level you're at when you fight them, but they don't really FEEL like boss battles. Usually I expect a boss fight to be an epic fight against some powerful enemy. Usually, the fight should feel different from generic battles, not necessarily because you need a unqiue strategy, but the boss should usually use abilities or tactics that other enemies dont use. The effect is generally best if the fight is in unique surroundings and accompanied by special boss music, and Morrowind just doesn't capture that very well. The differences between bosses and normal enemies are usually just cosmetic, the only actual gameplay differences are generally that bosses take longer to kill and can kill you quicker.

My opnion of a "boss" is a higher level opponent at the at of a quest/dungeon etc.

Although Boss isn't the highest level NPC in the ruin, he is highest you'll encounter when you go straight to the puzzle box. Offcourse, that didn't happen MY first time. I signed onto this forum for that quest. :blush2:

Dagoth Ur can't be killed directly.

You can shoot him with an Arrow of Slaying, and he vanishes... is that a technical death? You screw the MQ, though.

Well there's a reason this thread is in the Morrowind Mods section.

Actually, when playing an Rpg, I always wait to see bosses. Havind a special tactic against a boss is great.

@Jeff: If so, we could also count "sethealth 0" as killing him, but you got my Idea. :D

Havind a special tactic against a boss is great.

As long as it's not a Bull-like boss, which charges at you, so you have to jump sideways, so it crashes into a wall.

That must be the most overused boss type in action games ever. :D

Special tactics ok, but not just 1 super tactic that always wins, or that no other tactics will result in failure.

Yes, I kno it's not WoW, but I liked it's boss fights. Where you bring special items and prepare for just that fight. :) Also bosses posess many abilities, based upon timing, that's also a great thing. :)
