Who Would You Elect High King of Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jan 10, 2014 9:32 pm

Of all the Nords in Skyrim, who would you elect High King of Skyrim, of that power was given to you?

Ulfric Stormcloak is strong enough, devoted enough, and knowledgeable enough to be a suitable High King, but his hateful demeanor towards non-Nords are what make me disagree with choosing him.

Brunwulf Free-Winter would be a good candidate, especially since he is a war veteran and because he is more 'nicer' towards the non-Nord races. He seems to know what's right and what's wrong. But after hearing of his distaste for war, I would fear he would be hesitant to strike at Skyrim's foes.

Lastly, the other candidate would be Balgruuf the Greater. Balgruuf seems like a good leader and good person, but his denial of choosing the Empire or Stormcloaks makes me think he is indecisive.

Interesting question, and a hard one at that. I would say Balgruuf but as you say, he is indecisive.

Who's the Jarl of Morthal? I pick her just because she's aesthetically pleasing, and she seems like a good Jarl. Seems like she's hiding a lot of dark secrets. I miss Janus Hassildor. x(.

Incoming the civil war...

I don't care who becomes High king. As long as they take the fight to the thalmor, I'm happy.

I think Balgruuf is playing both sides to the benefit of his own people...which is a good quality in my opinion. He'd be my first choice.

Of all the Jarls from both sides, its Brunwulf Free-Winter, Balgruuf, and I hate to say it, Ulfric. All the others can't really compare. They're either too paranoid, crazy, naive, and/or fanatics.

Courting both sides for the best deal, while avoiding war, is not indecisive. Its brilliant. Which is why Balgruuf gets my vote.

Ulfric Stormcloak would not be a good choice, because he only wants to be high king. His little rebellion is just to fool the Nords in making him the high king.

Elisif the Fair would not be a good choice either, because she is inexperienced and too young for the throne.

Balgruuf the Greater would somewhat be a good choice, but he hides two dark secrets...

One of his kids speak with the Daedric Prince of Plots, Mephala, and Balgruuf killed a innocent person and hid him under the Dragonsreach bridge.

Idgrod Ravencrone would somewhat be good, but she hides in her longhouse all day and according to the citizens of Morthal, she doesn't help anyone. She may have a dark and mysterious past.

The person that truly deserves to be the High King of Skyrim is Laila Law-Giver. Even though she is a Stormcloak supporter, she strongly believes that Ulfric just wants to be crowned high king, not caring about Skyrim or anything else. If she really wanted too, she can sentence Maven Black-Briar and the rest of the Black-Briars to death. She would also order her housecarl and a group of Riften guards into the Ratway to clear out the Thieves Guild and anything or anyone else in the Ratway.

Laila also states that she respects the Empire, but she thinks that it is time for Skyrim to be independent.

The other choice that would be good to be the High King of Skyrim is Mogrul.

Ulfric Stormcloak is a skilled military leader and politician (for Nordic standards anyway). Plus, I agree with his stances towards the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion.

So yeah, I endorse him.

Where did you here about Balgruuf killing someone!?

Also, I doubt Balgruuf is "using" the belligerents; I'm pretty sure he's just indecisive.

I forgot about Laila. But remember, her husband would be High King... so yeah.

Also guys, it can be any nord, not necessarily a Jarl.

I'm gonna revive High king torygg and make him king again.

If I had to pick one, it'd be Jarl Ballin cause he seems to care about his people.

Will always stand by Brunwulf - I pick the Imperial side just to see him replace Ulfric as Jarl of Windhelm. If you're playing as a non-Nord race (especially a Dunmer) he seems like an obvious choice. No one should be too eager to dive headlong into war.

To elect would mean there would be democracy. And we can't have that happen now can we? The Empire should be the one picking puppets kings here!

Vignar Gray-Mane is a worthy candidate- he's a Nord from 1 of the oldest and most respected clans, he's a Companion, he served in the Legion for 30 years and was a Commander in the Great War, and is a true Nord through and through....the age, experience, and leadership in the Legion make him more worthy then most.

This line of his from the exchange with Balgruuf says much: "If this was my Empire, I'd be able to worship whoever I damned well pleased. You wish to see an Empire without Talos? Without its soul? We should be fighting those witch-elves, not bending knee to them. The Emperor is nothing more than a puppet of the Thalmor. Skyrim needs a High King who will fight for her, and Whiterun needs a Jarl who will do the same."

Then there's this dialogue that's scripted between him and Balgruuf that's supposed to happen when they cross paths yet they never do before the war:
Balgruuf: "I won't say it again, Vignar - Talos worship is forbidden. It's the Empire's law, and we're still a part of the Empire."
Vignar: "A law made at the tip of an Aldmeri sword, aye. A sword stained red with Nord blood. Is this what our people fought and died for? To forsake our most beloved ancestor and divine?"
Balgruuf: "I'm no happier about this than you are, but I don't want the see the Thalmor rounding up people in the streets and throwing them in prison."
Vignar: "Do your loyalties lie with the Thalmor, then?"
Balgruuf: "I warn you, Gray-Mane, you are treading on dangerous ground."
Vignar: "Don't threaten me, boy. You're either a Nord who respects our traditions, or you're not. If not, it isn't me you'll have to answer to, but the people of this city and this hold."

He's definitely got my Nords vote.

It may not be a democracy but there's the Moot where all the Jarls elect a High King.

The only person that I felt was High King material would be Kodlak, of course then that happened.

Ulfric's too much of a brat, Elisif was spoiled rotten and has no clue about politics it seems that Firebeard is the one that makes the decisions.

Balgruuf's not a bad choice. I just don't see Free-Winter as the high king, as much as I love that old guy, he seems to be stressed enough with just one hold.

Elenwen should be in charge of Skyrim after the Dominion takes over and hopefully it brings some excitement to this boring setting. Hopefully Bethesda makes us part of the war this time and not have 200 years pass and be told about it through some book or some unlikeable NPC.
