So who're you gonna make?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 1:14 am

My character will be loosely based on the lead character Leon from "The Professional", or more accurately, his trainee. I know that Natalie Portman played his trainee in the movie, but my character would be a young man that trained under him and will use the theories and principals he taught. No women and no children, start from a distance and work up to in close encounters to take out your target.

His home or base will be sparse and only have what he needs to be a more lethal assassin. He will first master the use of his weapons, and then focus on the maintenance and crafting of the weapons. Once I feel he has acquired the skills I want him to have, then he will branch out and want more from his life than just to be a killing machine.

"What I had was a coat, a hat and a gun."

I adore Film Noir style Detectives. A cynical guy just trying to make things a little better.

I just hope game includes the hat and coat.

Well there was that guy who walks down a street in the teaser trailer that straight up wears a noir style coat and hat, so yeah no worries I would say.

First character will be based on myself, so in other words a bog standard white western European male. Depending on the age of the character he will have been born and raised in the uk, but moved to USA and stayed after meeting his wife. I will play and act the way i would act if i was in that situation (mostly good karma).

second character will be female, by this time there should be plenty of character creation guides so i will probably try to recreate a celebrity or fictional character, with a playthrough focused on vastly different elements to my first character.

My third will be an 'evil' play through, heavily influenced by Sylar from heroes. He will start off as a normal guy, but the cryogenic sleep and loss of his family will mess him up and the dormant psycho/evil side will start to surface.

Going for a Mad Max like char, loner does the odd job in search of info on family(a guess about story arch or at least what i hope).

So he/she will be focused on survival high toughness and high intelligence, and i plan on focussing on sneaking and melee surprise on baddies since ammo might be a hard thing to come by if not i will go nuts with weapons :D

I remember that guy. I was concerned he would be a companion or Important NPC and I wouldn't be able to find another set. But you're right, it's probably somewhere.

On F3 and Skyrim I instinctively tried to make brawny characters, but would spend most of my play through wondering how different or how much more interesting things would be if I had focused on luck and charisma. I am determined this time to start with high luck and charisma - and not have to worry about what I'd be missing had I not focused on them. I hope I can just use my grey matter to work my way round more physical, bellicose encounters. There's no rush. Hopefully there will be many ways to progress without missing out on key occurrences.

Or was I right to not give luck and charismahigh priority in the past? Don't want to cripple myself accidentally.

My first character is usually vaguely based on myself: technical background, not great in a fight, tries (and frequently fails) to be a good person, low tolerance for idiots. I'll probably roleplay my marriage as one one of convenience, basically bowing to the social expectations of the 50s-eque US to have a "normal" family, and all of that will go out the window after the bombs. My character's first thoughts will be "I'm free" even though she'll feel bad about it.

Not even thinking about stats or perks yet. After coming up with a decent background I'll just go with the flow.

My second character will be based on Trashcan Man from The Stand: Not smart, highly delusional, easily manipulated, obsessively motivated, and above all loves fires and explosions. That type of character doesn't fit with the pre-war life we're given, but I'll explain that, and future deviant characters with the simple explanation that oxygen deprivation during cryo-sleep caused irreversible personality changes.

Also, umm, this topic's URL certainly suggests a different type of character entirely... :P

One of my chars will be from a blue collar family of trades workers. Before the bombs dropped he was one of the single best plumbers and pipe fitters in the entire world. Found himself a trophy wife too. Real princess.

Mario will have olive skin and a proud bushy mustache.

Same guy I always make. Good guy (mostly) stamping out wickedness with righteous fury. Protecting the downtrodden and defenseless. Occaisionally I'll resort to a bit of theft to acquire something unique but I don't kill good people. Unless they're like that railroad chick from F3 lookin to save A3-21. You run up on me with that kind of attitude before you know what I'm doing I will kill you with extreme prejudice.

I'll be modeling my first character after myself.

In short;

a well-built tall dark eyed/haired Eastern Euro dude with a passion for bolt action rifles and patient sneaky gameplay accompanied by strong love and a do-whatever-it-takes viewpoint in order to find his wife and child. My character sets his goals and does not shy away from them. He is a nightmare for anyone who steps into his way and in the way of his loved ones. His presence and charismatic good looks() are a sweet poison for the opposite six, who he manipulates with for his own benefit but does not betray his only love(until confirmed dead, a man's gotta screw cmon now)

He will turn The Commonwealth upside down if necessary to achieve his goals. Good-willed people have nothing to be afraid of. He will protect the weak and give power to ones who he thinks will affect the world in a positive light. He will do his thing and dissapear with countless stories to tell.

I plan on sticking with this character and complete the game entirely and solely with him, as I did in 3 and NV.

Don't bother asking. He/she was just being snarky. I'm sure his/her hours of experience with F4 makes them very knowledgeable.

This completely depends on the soft cap.

If everyone can get to LVL~150 (allows for pretty much every playstyle, minus some utility perks) just from all major/side quest, yeah you're probably right. Now if the major content only brings the typical player to level ~40-50 then you'd be wrong.

But yes, everyone that grinds respawns and explores 100's of hours after the major content will become the same, it's been like that for every Bethesda game.

Exactly. If you play long enough, sure, all of your characters will eventually be the same. I plan on stopping with a character if they start to lose focus. Like I've done with every Bethesda game since Morrowind.

Well, they'll certainly all sound the same anyway. For replay value I generally stop playing (retire the character) after I've done the quests I think that character would want to do and have the skills I wanted him to have. After that I start another character with completely different skill sets being used and goals. The problem is, they are all going to sound the same in FO4.

I know a lot of people like the voiced PC in ME and DA2 and DAI. Well so do I, but I can only get one or two play-throughs in those games because with the voice they all seem to be the same character to me. The individuality of the PC's is simply gone. On the other hand games like DAO, and TES I can play 30+ characters and they never feel like the same character. And I'm still playing those games but I can't touch ME even though I liked it for those one or two play-throughs.

Since my characters don't do everything in a single play-through the only way I'll get my 400+ hours of play time is by using multiple characters, but I think the voiced PC kills replay value and the use of multiple characters (as I've done in prior games) so even though I've exceeded 1500+ hours in Skyrim, I just don't see me getting close to that in FO4.

You keep saying this like you know what you're talking about, but you really don't.

With 311 maximum levels and an estimated 4.8 million XP (based on the levelling rate sitting somewhere between Fallout 3 and Skyrim as confirmed by Todd Howard), this would take you around 2,400 hours to achieve based on an average of 2,000 XP per hour. If you played the game for 4 hours per day, 7 days a week, this would take you over a year and a half to achieve. And so, if you do choose to continue spouting negativity in future, at least base it on something that actually makes sense.

Bit of a lurker, so this is my first post

Not sure if anyone has read the Vince Flynn books but the main protagonist in that is a man called Mitch Rapp.

Only 5 books in, but I've already picked this guy as a backstory.

Father died when he was young, brought up alongside his brother by his mum. Avid martial artist, black belt in judo. Went to Syracuse University (or college?) with a scholarship in lacrosse but dropped out with a serious stint of depression after the plane carrying his long time girlfriend was hijacked and destroyed. Picked up by the CIA for a special ORION project, designed to fight in the middle east without being part of the CIA (ideally to stay out of the politics).

Extremely driven, kills without conscious if it can justify itself (i.e why kidnap a innocent family for hostages, or if they are terrorists etc). Due to the nature of the targets he has become a well known face, partially compromising his field abilities. After 13 years in the field he has been brought back to America to lead the ORION team. Publically he is advisor to the counterterrorism section of the CIA, and has a wife and child.

Then the bombs dropped.... Now unsure if his family are alive he has set out with a vengeance.

Pre-War he was basically an Assassin.

Special Wise I'd go:

Strength - 3

Perception - 7

Endurance - 3

Charisma - 3

Intelligence - 4

Agility - 6

Luck - 2

Not sure on perks, but weapon wise I'd stick to a silenced pistol as much as possible, maybe carry a combat knife as well.

Style would be generally quite sneaky, but if some noise is needed not afraid to make some.

Hope it made sense.... Less than a month to go!

Even if all stats were the same for all players (say this wasn't an RPG) our characters still wouldn't be the same. Every given scenario has multiple resolutions and our characters actions will determine their character. Some of us will be sneaky, other will hit them head on, some will talk their way through... these events will shape our characters more than the stat pages will. It's just certain perks and stats will help us play that role.

The fun contradiction of a sneak who uses explosives to dispatch threats when he can and melee weapons when he needs to.

I don't think that's contradictory. You need to get close for both of those and sneaking hurts less than trying to dodge bullets.
