Who do you think launched first?

Speaks for itself. I think China launched first. But discuss.

I know Richardson says the reds launched first but we can't count on that.

No clue. I haven't paid enough attention to know who started it but then again I've only played Fallout 3.

Probably China because when the US invaded them, they didn't have much else of a plan to fall back on. But maybe the US just to finish off China?

China, based on the President's comments about the war.

to be honest i don't think the president is unbiased, so i think his comments shouldn't be completely trusted.

Switzerland.

Yeah, they've always seemed a bit too neutral if you ask me.

Does it really matter who launched first? If it wasn't one, then the other would have done it 5 minutes later. It's not like there was any going back by that point, the world had already pretty much gone over the brink into nuclear war.

Most likely the States, and most likely under the orders of the Enclave. They never really cared about collateral damage, they just needed a way to get rid of thier enemy. Ergo, Good Bye world, and hello future gleaming utopia. The world was already going to hell in a hand basket, the Enclave had thier vault experiments ready, important people in the right places. Thier organisation would be well secured in its own shelters, along with the president, vp, and various other staff members, the stage was set, the lights were on, the curtains at the ready, all they had to do was start the show.

Most likely China, but it's possible it was United States when looking at the fact they were stuck in Yangze. Like in WW2, this could have been solved with nukes, but I really doubt they would have been that stupid, especially when their own troops likely died in the holocaust.

but in a resource war where by being stuck in the same position and wasting more and more resources is crippling both to your military and civillians, WW2 isnt the same the general america population wasnt going hungry, or rioting because of lack of food.

China. The U.S. still had unlaunched nukes when the bombs hit. I think if they were going to hit china they'd launch everything.

In Fallout 2 an AI in the BOS base in San Francisco says some theorize that the first nukes were launched by AI who had gained self-awareness and decided to start a war for their own entertainment; I'm not sure of the exact quote but it's something like that. I think that this only unbiased word we have.

Either that or it was ALEUNZ.

Skynet is insane. Take everything it says with a grain of salt. The whole "skynet starts the war" was a Terminator reference.

As for ALEUNZ, skynet also believed he was created with alien tech, so if you believe skynet started the war, you indirectly believe ALEUNZ started the war.

China, losing Anchorage and with the US on the attack, China couldn't resist the Power-Armored soldiers.

So they denied U.S. any chance at Victory, after all misery loves company

It matters not who shot first. Elements on at least one side engineered events to culminate in nuclear armageddon.

I'm not talking about Skynet, although it does back up my theory.
