So who do you think is more viable, House or Yes-man?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:25 pm

I know this is a beaten to death subject but I like to see people's reasons as to why they choose who they choose.

This isnt a "who do you prefer" but who you think is the most viable for running New Vegas/The Mojave. House or Yes Man?

Or if you think the NCR or Legion is better say why, or if you think they're all crap and wish you could just do things your way say why.

It depends on the big picture.

Mr. House is going to be better for the strip, and most of the Mojave, but his operations are very small-scale.

NCR is, in my opinion, the best choice for the west. They have a large enough army and are powerful enough to keep it under their control. (The reason being is that the Legion and NCR are the only factions that are large enough to keep that much land under their control) House's securitron army is too small to do anything of that size.

Yes Man is pointing towards anarchy, even if you wake the securitron army under the fort up.

The Legions a sinking ship, even if the player follows they're path and cures Caesar it wouldnt matter as he still doesnt have a whole lot of time left due to his age. (Not to mention the possibility of Lanius possibly going gun-ho and killing Caesar to usurp his "throne")

and like someone says in-game (cant remember) Does the Legion follow Caesar or his beliefs? If he dies then who knows what'll happen.

NCR I'm iffy about, they need a Leader who isnt some cocksure former Solider as if they try to keep up they're "take whatever we want because we can" expansion strategy it'll lead to they're downfall.

I'm not denying that the NCR has a TON of problems, they just have less problems than the Legion, or a semi-anarchic mojave.

totally, and Mr.House has been waiting 200 years to take over Vegas. You gotta think he'd have a pretty decent plan.

Out of my choices I'd say (from greatest to least): House, NCR, Yes-Man, Legion.

The way I see it is Mr. House is experienced in these matters and would make a lot of the big problems manageable, but it would inevitably mean less independence for other settlements in the Mojave if they wanted his protection and aid.
Yesman means more independence for the Mojave and while the problems could get overwhelming, you would also most likely have the help of the Brotherhood which should go a ways toward improving the infrastructure and innovation of New Vegas and the Mojave in general.

Note: An ideal path would be how it's going in the most recent Conventions(Tops, Primm, Hoover Dam).

Mr. House is basically Indy Vegas + the Greatest Genius of post-apocalyptia. Yes Man has nothing that House doesn't, and under House's protection the Courier has free hands to shape the world while House takes care of the home front. Not to mention that House can provide Courier with immortality, something that Yes Man can't do.

Heh. the mojave convention is definitely not ideal right now. But true, the rest are.

This^
Yes Man is essentially copying House, but he still doesn't have House's intelligence and he still needs someone to tell him what to do. The Courier would be busy instructing Yes Man all day with the indy ending whereas with House in charge the Courier has more freedom to actually get things done outside of Vegas.

Mr. House is more viable since he is intelligent, ambitious and has been running Vegas for over 200 years.

I picked Yes man because I wanted to run Vegas and I didn't like House pulling my strings...but its a double edged sword and picking Yes man means having to stay close by so no "bad" person takes over....I guess that means no more wandering around the Mohave or at least putting in a security code on yes man (I will pick security code 1,2,3,4,5 just like my luggage)

Lol no evil genius would expect that code, they'd be too busy trying to figure out some deep well thought out code of numbers when its really just the first 5 in order.

Still it seems like I'm in the majority here in saying I support House the most out of all.

NCR > House > Indy > Legion

NCR is the only group with the potential to create a stable territory that will last longer than a couple of decades.

I do hope you know that he's making a reference to spaceballs.

As for no one bad taking vegas, the reason Yes Man decides to "reprogram his personality" in the end, is so no other person can walk up to him and tell him to do things, as the courier did when Yes Man was in Benny's suite.

This was confirmed by J.E Sawyer.

And yes, House, if you only care about Vegas and the Mojave, but definitely NCR for the entire west, and beyond.

Indy= Anarchy

Under House everybody can do whatever the hell they want, so long as it's peaceful.

Indy= Anarchy

Not necessarily. If you have your Courier do things just like House would have done them but with a few minor adjustments to spread House's resources out to the whole Mojave, indy can be much different from just plain old anarchy.

I still prefer House though, because the way I see it is that House will pretty much lord over Vegas while the Courier can go and use House's resources to shape the rest of the Mojave.

House: The Courier has no real freedom. House will give him orders. The Courier can choose to disobey and shape the Mojave as he or she wishes, but I doubt House would allow him or her the luxury of being able to walk into Vegas without getting shot at if he or she disobeyed him. He's the best chance for New Vegas, but not the best chance for the Mojave. He's chasing the dreams of the old world, and that's not something we need. He's okay, but not the best choice in my opinion.

NCR: The Courier, again, has no real freedom. However, the NCR does not technically employ the Courier, so the Courier does have some leash for shaping New Vegas. Not to mention that, due to the Courier's high status, he has pull in NCR regional politics in the Mojave, the Courier will be better off. The main issue here is that NCR is very imperialistic and again, like House, chases old world dreams of vast empires spanning the world. They provide stability, however, allowing the Courier to focus on other things. They also look more towards the region, rather than just New Vegas, as House does. Overall, best choice in my opinion, but still not ideal.

Yes Man/Independent: Great on paper, horrible in practice. Doesn't matter if the Courier has a giant Securitron army - he/she cannot be at all places at once. Inevitably, some places will get worse treatment than others, and the Mojave may remain generally lawless for years to come until the Courier can personally conduct campaigns to eradicate all the regional menaces that plague the area. Stability is something of a luxury that, again, only New Vegas and the richer towns will be able to afford. In addition, due to the instability of the region, trade will generally be stymied unless the Courier focuses all of his/her man... er... robot power on patrolling trade routes, in which case other areas will go neglected. The best bet here is for the Courier to unite all the Mojave factions so they can do his/her work for him/her and allow the Courier to focus on more important matters. However, not all the factions get along. They'll unite behind the Courier, not the Courier's ideals. Should the Courier and the Courier's companions die, so the Mojave dies with them. Worse than NCR or House, but better than Legion.

Caesar's/Lanius' Legion: Stability is a key factor here. The Legion is stable so long as a leadership figure lives. As the Courier is an outsider, he/she cannot inherit the position of Caesar after Caesar dies - at least, not without heavy bloodshed. Lanius is too much of a brute, and his policies would likely destroy the Legion from the inside-out, leaving the Mojave a lawless waste. As long as Caesar lives, the Courier would be able to shape most of the Mojave to his or her liking - so long as he or she was careful about pushing Legion around. As soon as Caesar dies, however, the Mojave dies with him. His Legion troops, conditioned to be loyal to him - not his ideals - would quickly devolve into a mess of squabbling tribes, and the Legion would shatter.

House > Yes Man
Though I would take Yes Man's power for myself and place myself at the height of power, how would I keep it that way - this would plague me more than keeping the Strip and New Vegas secure, since House already has everlasting life he can focus completely on New vegas opposed to my power lust.

Caesar's Legion > NCR
Do I have to....Legion are genetically superior, they have more honor and are completely loyal to Caesar, each member works towards rebuilding the Wastes under Caesar's Banner, they are more cunning and intelligent than people think, their military tactics are far superior to that of the NCR, they are far better trained and all are bred into their roles for maximum effeciency. A Legion Recruit would trump a NCR recruit anyday in a fight. They are a monument to NCR's failings.

I beg to differ. House is best for the whole of the Mojave that is within his borders (IE every location we see in game is part of what would be considered House's domain should he win). Ultimately I see House as the best choice for the region, and best for general technologic and economic rebirth on a wider scale. NCR is best for other regions, but if NCR wins and takes New Vegas I feel it'd be their waterloo, because even if they won the battle, they'd lose the war on the Legion because Kimball and his type of people would stay in the administration. Also, chasing the old world isnt a bad thing. Anyone who says 'The old world led to the war', that's a cop out excuse. It was a mixture of America's overly hostile behaviour and the lack of resources to go around.

House is practical. He wouldn't kill The Courier as long as he/she could be usefull to him or at last not interfering with his plans, which are securing Vegas independence, gathering money and other resources for his future plans. Oh, and destroing any possible direct threats to him, like West BoS. They are nothing but high-tech raiders, so it seems reasonable.

I think Legion/NCR fans are very interesting and fun to listen to, and I understand why they support the Legion/NCR, but this post is completely false, with made up, exaggerated "what ifs"

House IS your friend. For god's sakes, he is the reason why you survived at goodsprings, and I'm not going to spoil the ending.

You can have an opinion, but you must also realize that the other factions have their own claim, and reason why they can be somewhat good at holding the Mojave.

I do agree that the NCR doesn't appreciate the courier enough, and refers to him/her as a civilian when the Courier was the sole reason why they gained power in the Mojave in 2281.

You need to finish Lonesome Road and then see your outlook on all the other factions after looking at Ulysses' philosophies.

In my own opinion, Mr. House would run management, logistics, and a variety of other things better around the Mojave then any other person. However, the tight control we see on some of these places will lead to stagnation and decline of them, which in turn effects the Mojave even if it is just a little bit. Yes Man could run and expand the place better with his free wheeling anarchic ways, and with little management we will see the Strip expand just a little bit at a time and the outside Mojave get a tad bit better. NCR and the Legion are riddled with plenty of problems, which would make them unsuitable to hold this location; NCR is stretched thin and will be eventually pushed out at their current rate, and the Legion's brutal peace and their whole ideals and what not will not translate well to how people view it. So in my own opinion, Yes Man is the better person.

A government similar to the NCR's is what lead to the great war. "If you want to see the future of Democracy, just look out the windows". That's why he's taking an autocratic approach.

In general, I wouldnt blame Democracy, well, not fully at least. The large issue is what the government itself was doing. Sabotaging China's claim to an oil resource during the Resource Wars, a race for the last bits of precious oil left on the planet. In retaliation of America's underhandedness, China invaded Anchorage (Though the details of that war aside from victory are scetchy as the Op:Anch simulation is basically General Chase's delusions of grandeur as opposed to how it really went down.), when America won the Anchorage Reclamation, they marched on China, and as they were making their way up the Yangtze river towards Beijing, the Great War happened. According to President Richardson claims the Chinese struck first with their warheads, whether this is true or not is up for debate.

Suffice it to say, the issue was political tensions in the world had come to a head. The Great War arguably did humanity a favor. Not enough food for mouths, low resources, and the Great War fixed our little 'population problem'.
