I'm guessing that the "300 hours of content" was calculated for a player who used Fast Travel very sparingly. If you're traveling through the game without actually walking or riding a horse most of the time, I would expect that the number of hours would be reduced quite a bit. BTW: this is not a complaint . . . just an observation . . . that the number of hours are going to be vastly different for different players. I'm very happy that Skyrim's estimated time to complete the entire game is 50% more than it was for Oblivion.

they said 30 hour MQ, 300 hours EVERYTHING EVERYTHING

No they did not, go back and read what they said. They said for all the quests it takes 300+ hours andd for everything like exploring, easter eggs, leveling up, mini games and jobs, looting, finding secrets, talking to NPCs, role playing, ect. can add up to another 300 hours. Oblivion was the same way.

Im not saying this info is false...but it doesn't make sense....300 hours for main content? no way..no the game is being streamlined and i just dont see them offering 300 hours of MAIN content...now 300 hours to do EVERYTHING? like side quests and such? sure i can see that happening. But we will just have to wait and see...300 hours was nothing in the older games but it didnt take that long to whip through the main content.

What do you mean "MAIN CONTENT?" the main content is the main quest line a main story while the side quests and faction questlines are side things. Main quest in skyrim is 20 to 30 hours and factions will most likey be 10 to 15 hours long each no telling how many, there are four confirmed so far plus all the 100+ subquests. So to do all those quests will take 300 hours but the thing is on your first time you will not do the quests as fast as you would doing them a seconed time so they will be longer and plus all the other secret mini stuff like exploring and such will equal out to be 600 to 800 hours to DO and SEE every thing the game has to offer.

So I may have overreacted, but 300 hours IS pretty long right? How long do you reckon oblivion was?

I got about 150 hours from one playthrough, overall however I logged more than 1000 hours into it.

If this were any other game, I'd be very surprised. But this is an Elder Scrolls game, so it's pretty much expected. I've gotten well over 1000 hours out of Oblivion and about 100 in Morrowind, and I haven't even touched the main quest, the mage's guild, the thieve's guild, the great houses, or either of the expansions yet.

What were the great houses in Morrowind? Were they like mini factions/guilds?

I just finished a game of Oblivion and I don't sight-see all that much although I'd like to. I keep going through the quests and get most of them...that's a lot. I use fast-travel sparingly and I also did KotN but not Shivering Isles; I might still do that. I enjoyed closing Oblvion Gates and got about 26 this time. That game so far is at 337 hours. That game is on PS3 (also have PC) so I have to keep it under a game-year or I might get hit with the A-Bomb. I think Skyrim will end up being very close to this number of hours the way I play and after it has some DLC and it'll probably have more hours than Oblivion. Mantra: can't wait. :)

I love how people are saying "If it's less than 200 hours I'll be disappointed" or just talking about how the average playthrough in OB/MW was well into the hundreds of hours, yet you'll be extremely hard-pressed to find a game on the market today that has more than 70-80 hours. Just proves TES is teh winzor.
