Whole PC Crashes when playing (SOLUTION = $ REWARD)

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 2:33 pm

My gaming desktop crashes completely and I hear distortion noices and loud bleeps from my headphones after a while of playing, always whenever something happens in the game (for example someone attacks me or I press a shortcut to map etc.) On low settings and 1280x720 resolution the problem is minimized, on ultra settings it happens quite often. I updated the game to the newest beta, didn't fix my issue. After each crash my pc doesn't shut down with it's power button pressed, I have to wait a while until it shuts down.

I run Windows 7 Ultimate, my specs:

MSI Z87-G45 mobo

AMD R9 280x gpu (latest drivers installed)

i7-4770K cpu

16 GB of ram

Barracuda 1TB hdd (Steam and Fallout installed in this directory) (defragment needed, could cause the issue?)

Samsung evo 850 1TB ssd

Corsair 750w 80+ Bronze power supply

Water coolers applied, monitor connected to GPU VGA -spot (loses connection after crash).

Keyboard also loses connection and doesn't work after crash, even tho it's connected via USB -port.

Been struggling with this issue since the release day - no one have been able to help so far. I have to quicksave the game very often and it's annoying to play the game on a little screen instead of full resolution and settings. So I will be paying a little reward via Paypal to whoever can solve this issue and get my game working properly! $

You can pay me £1,000,000 to tell you its a fault with your hardware if you like. Either your GPU or power supply most likely.

That's what happens when your PC components overheat.

I would lean toward power supply or mainboard.

The usb keyboard thing... it's a very common issue when your MB isn't controlling your PSU properly. Often you'll have to completely unplug the power supply, power cycle the mainboard [hold the pwer button for about 5 seconds], then plug back in.

But honestly, it could be any part.

It's be nice to know temps and have a look at the event viewer's system log.

Since I should differentiate my post from B1gBadDaddy's... I'll say mainboard. I mean, someone's gotta win the £1,000,000. I heard it was $8,000,000 US, they might be ripping you off, man!

Anyway... extra info will help. :D We really need details like if anything changed in your setup right before you started playing FO4... if you have run any stress testing programs on it... if you've been overclocking your gpu... etc, etc, etc... ad infinitum. Anything you can think of, throw it in a spoiler tag with a heading if you want.

Post a dxdiag: https://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

Use spoiler tags. Button to the left of the Font dropdown. Select spoiler and paste the entire report in the textbox.

How is the rest of your system stability? Do other programs crash? Do you play other games? How do they work?

This happens after you play the game for awhile? Happens randomly in game? You using mods? ENB series?

Are you overclocking/overvolting anything? Using overclocking software? Definitely monitor your system temperatures if you aren't already. Try HWmonitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

What happens exactly when it crashes? It crashes the entire system? DOes it freeze or reboot? Or does it just crash to desktop?

Try to answer all questions as best you can.

Haha big rumors spreading I see! I'll keep the amount as a top secret information B)

Nothing else changed on my setup except that I updated my GPU bios because of screen flickering. I also installed a new SSD. Never overclocked, and haven't done stress testing other else than with the SSD's. I changed some settings what were guided in the bethesda help, but that was after I had discovered the crashing. I have noted more additional info in the reply to Jasper above, see if it can help. I can't think of more changes what could have caused the problem right now, as I haven't changed quite much anything in a while, except updated my drivers - I like to do that a lot as a perfectionist lol.

I will post the dxdiag asap! Might take couple of days as I'm away from home atm.

- System stability have always been great with no errors at all, except my GPU suddenly started to flicker and I had to update it's BIOS. I play other games and use a lot of media editing programs which take my pc to the extreme, and they have all worked great, no crashes at all.

- The game crashes in very random time cycles, sometimes 10 minutes after launching, but sometimes I get to play few hours without problems. I don't use any kind of mods, installed straight from Steam directory (plus I have installed the season pass). I have noticed that the crash happens almost everytime in the parts where something happens in the game, like said in the original post. Firstly I tried all of the methods what were instructed from Bethesda help (like running the game on compatibility mode etc.) I also contacted Bethesda, but I only got an automatic answer which didn't help me anyhow.

- I have never overclocked anything. My system stays up with about 40-50 celcius when playing.

- The screen goes instantly blank, and glitches a little for very short amount of time, just allowing me to see a flick of the glitched screen. Then it goes all blank, and my monitor starts to search new signals. The computer doesn't shut itself down, it just continues functioning (except keyboard, and I hear those weird bleeps from my headphones). I have to force the reboot with the buttons on my computer case.

- I have noticed that rarely when I reboot from the crash, I hear a ticking noise from my computer. It is surely from GPU & mobo section of the case, but it is so short period that I haven't been able to specifically locate where the ticking comes yet. I haven't heard that sound before the crashing started, that's for sure.

Thank you both and Bigdaddy too for the replies! I feel relieved to see that I have few helping hands here. Big respect to you for spending your time with my problem, haven't got help from anywhere else yet. :goodjob:

Likely a hard disk, DVD-rom (is there a dvd in there?), or fan. You probably just never noticed it before.

CHeck your event viewer also. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-event-viewer#1TC=windows-7

Look under WIndows logs. Check both the system and application logs. You will want to go through and try to find any clues during the date and time of the hang. Try to find an entry that indicates an unexpected reboot and check backwards from there.

You can also clear the logs and try to recreate the hang. You can save the logs first.

It could be the power supply or a problem with drivers.

I had the same problem but it stopped after I started using the fallout script extender and ran the game as administrator in windows 7 comparability for some reason.

I have the same graphics card.

F4SE is for mods. It allows extended scripting capabilities that modders can use beyond what the game comes with.

http://f4se.silverlock.org/%C2%A0You certainly can try it. Just download it and extract the contents into your FO4 main directory.

Then run the loader.
