Like I said, you didn't impress Mr. House, he thought he could use you because of the incident with Benny.

So in having been bested by Benny once already, I'm the natural candidate to take him down in his heavily-guarded stronghold?

He doesn't care how he gets the platinum chip, he simply cares that it's gotten. He could infer several motivations that he could play on to counter Benny. 1. The Courier wants revenge 2. The Courier wants money and power 3. The Courier is curious, and wants to know why he was shot 4. The Courier just wants to finish his damned delivery. See where I'm going?

So he entrusts the job to someone who's already demonstrated his inability to hold on to the chip. See where I'm going?

Hold on there. Benny has already shown that he's smarter/better in a fight/more capable than the Courier. If I'm House, I'm thinking I'm going to need a heavier hitter for this job, not the same guy who's failed me once already.

Benny snuck up on Courier six and shot him in the head. He had an unfair advantage.

That'd be "smarter/more capable" in action right there.

[censored], the Courier is the only one other than a very select few that know about the chip. The fewer people that know the better. It's pretty clear you don't get House's position.

No, I'm saying nothing of the kind.

What I am saying is that having failed House once already, it strikes me as slightly odd that the Courier should be the one to whom House would turn again. If I were House, I would look for someone more obviously capable instead. And if I were worried that the Courier knew too much, I'd have my securitrons fill him with holes the moment he tried to set foot on the Strip.

What. Seriously? What's the difference between a settlement and a town? Or a village and a town? Or a tribe and a town?

I'm not smacking around a "fact-stick" right now, I said this is the word I think of when I see these places.
Goodsprings might be a town/settlement/village/tribe but when I look at it I think it looks like a village.

That's why I did a /imo at the end.
Don't care about the specifics, if I think it looks like a village then I'ma call it a village.

So wear and tear can take a room size chip off the corner(in a place with no weather effects ohh plz read epicness's post as he think the strip got nuked .

Really? The Roman ruins were not nuked, but still look like hell. Even though there was no weather effects, it was still open to the wind. 200 years is enough for a portion to fall over. If a nuke hit the strip, nothing would be there. Nukes are POWERFUL.

depends the chip was not in vegas where it was could have gotten nuked but the chip is made of platinum and as far as i know platenum does not rust but the em waves from the nukes would have destroyed any data on the chip

Hang on a second... In the opening scenes, isn't the courier tied up and unconscious but not yet shot? Sounds like he got jumped and knocked out. He got shot later.

It's a strange scenario, anyway--

Not only did Victor dig you up, he carefully excavated the entire grave. Huh? (obsessive robot behavior, maybe?)

A schmoozing butt-head and a gang of Khans take the time to bury someone? In a graveyard?

I'm not amazed that the courier survived a headshot; hell, my couriers get shot in the head all the time. All Doc Mitchell needed was a Stimpack or two, right?

What does House see in the Courier? Obviously he's in cahoots with Doc Mitchell, who hypnotizes you with Rorschach blots, inane questions and possible brain alteration to seek out Benny.

As for the other factions enlisting you, I got nothing except that it sort of makes sense for the NCR to seek your help because by the time you reach Vegas you've probably helped them in some way. Can't swing a non-existent irradiated cat in this game without hitting an NCR quest.

Not an attack on NV, and kidding.
