Nope, don't have enough money after the CE cost me $90. Would be nice though.

Really? I seriously doubt you will be able to get the full experience out of the game without a guide. There is just too much to do.

I used the wikis for Fallout3 and Oblivion and then felt like I had gone through too fast and missed something about the experience. This time I thought I'd try without a lot of help but you make a great point here. I may get it, not sure yet, but I think I'll be doing a mixture of trying to not look at guides and then looking if I need to reference a technique or something. I don't want it to hold my hand through the game this time.

Added: People make some great points so I ordered the guide. I won't look at it in depth until after a lot of playing though. I think this will give me the most out of the game. See you in the desert.

Yes. I don't use it as a walkthrough guide, I'll dip in and out after my first playthrough (so no plot/quest spoliers). I know I can get it all on the net, but I'm a book nerd so I like having the physical artifact, with its illustrations and such (no ebooks/Kindles for me). I know some people see it as a waste of money, but it's my money and it makes me a happy bunny to get a new game with a nice thick book which suggests a ton of stuff for me to enjoy :)

I might end up buying the guide when it comes down in price and after I've completed the game several times.

I want to. I think I'll end up buying it, but I'm not sure if it will be before or after the game. I also want it for collector purposes. I bought Fallout 3's guide a year after it released and I've hardly looked at it. As for The Vault, my laptop broke and getting up to look on the computer and coming back to the game is aggravating. Not like I would do that anyway.

I personally think that with a game this size, a guide is essential. There is just far too much to exlore, collect and kill that I won't be satisfied until I have done it all.
What are your reasons for getting the guide or not?

Fallout wiki my friend.

I'm not paying money for a guide which will spoil everything. I know there are many people who won't use the guide at every step but they'll just get it to add to their Fallout collection, but I'm not one of them.

No. i'd just end up ruining the game for myself.
If i need help then i will use the wiki, and if i need charts for crafting/cooking i will just print them out or (more likely) memorise them.

the fallout wiki will be enough for me too, but the big poster map could be a nice reason to buy the guide, anyone nows more about them?
the description at gamestop says for the normal guide:

"Pull out poster map of the huge New Vegas landscape with points of interest, main sights, and major landmarks labeled. "

for the ce guide the same, only the "huge poster map" is different there.

but unfortunately no dimension infos or pictures.
i'd like to now how much bigger the ce map ist, is the poster map itself the same or not, and of course a picture.

I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition as a collector's item. Also if i wana know where something is it definately will help. Such as where certain weapons are and how to obtain them.

No. I use these forums and the Vault as my information sources, and share what i know too. Internet communities FTW :D

Why get the guide when there is the wiki.

Because some people don't want to be walking back and forth to their PC while playing the game and if I was playing the PC version I sure wouldn't want to be tabbing to windows just to check the wiki when the guide is a lot easier to access.

Yeah, I'll probably end up getting it. I rarely buy guides, but I did for Fallout 3 and felt it added a lot to the experience. While there will end up being a lot of info about the game for free online, it's hard to find that early on in a way that doesn't spoil other stuff. For Fallout 3 I rarely used the guide on my first playthrough, but for my second I really wanted to see the stuff I'd missed the first time and the guide was invaluable for that.

No, I like it being an open form of exploration and if I do get stuck I will just check the wiki for help.

Then print out any relevant pages - it's still cheaper.

I pre ordered the hard cover edition. I want to use it because I love how it has the charts and such. Also for collector purposes. But I used the FO3 guide when I got stuck so I'm sure this can help too.

That would work if my printer was actually working. Printer ink in expensive anyway and I don't see buying a 464 page guide a waste of money if I'll use it.

For me, the entire point of Bethesda games, including New Vegas, is that you can explore the game world for hundreds of hours and still not find everything. Using a guide for a Bethesda game defeats the whole purpose of playing the game in the first place. Guides make sense in linear games where no exploring takes place, but all a guide will do for New Vegas is serve to cut short the amount of gameplay you can squeeze out of the game by spoiling it all for you as soon as possible.

So no, I wont be getting it.

I'll get the collector's hardcover edition and use it exactly like I used FO3's guild. I read the first 2 or 3 chapters on character creation, so I knew exactly how stats, skills, and perks worked. Then I didn't used it again for about a year.

I won't need to. If I need anything I can just search The Vault for it. Someone will inevitably buy it and post an article, or a snippet, or something, on there that came out of that guide.

I'll be getting the CE edition but I should pre-order it just in case it gets sold out on the first day.
