Whose elven armor is elven armor?

Post » Wed Mar 23, 2011 5:58 pm

Has anybody wondered about how the elven armor in the game looks....too classy? I mean, in Oblivion it was clear: elven armor was Ayleid armor. But in Skyrim, I dont know if there should be Ayleid armor. I doubt the elven armor shown is Dwemeri or Dunmeri....maybe its Aldmeri?

What do you guys think?

(As a side note, it would be badass if there were bonemold armor in this game :P)

I always figured it was ancient Chimer style.

"Elven" is a pretty generic term, I think it's an ancient crafting method from the more "common" elven ancestors. Unless they all came from High Elves.

Remember that it was the Imperials who came up with most of the standard terms like dwarven armor or elven armor. They didn't specify eastern dwemer or western dwemer, they just say dwarven.

I'd also say it's most likely to be high elven because we didn't see it in Morrowind, and the wood elves think wagon wheels are clothing items. Not to mention Bethesda's Codex says that orcish armor is based on high elven designs.

Im not saying there wasnt. I just think the elven armor looks too Ayleid for my tastes, unless its Aldmeri armor. In which case, I understand its classiness.

And Arena too. And Battlespire. Not so much in Redguard.

I believe it is Altmer, but I could be wrong. I think Bethesda should make it possible to find out in Skyrim.

My opinion? Snow Elves. They ruled Skyrim before the Nords took over so it'd make sense. That gives it a reason to have changed in appearence since we've never seen it before.

Ancient Chimer armor looks a lot like what the Ashlanders in Morrowind wore. It mostly consisted of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Netch_Leather_(style). I looked for the reference to the ancient Chimer, but could not find it.

Elven armor feels like High Elves to me.

I like the idea, but that would have to be some really old armor, considering that was where the first humans came to Tamriel in the first Era.

Elven is a generic enough term that it really could be anything, In Oblivion, I generally assumed elven armor was Ayleid armor, but I'm not so sure with it being in Skyrim since I don't expect to find many Ayleid ruins. Then again, lack of Dwemer ruins in a game never stopped dwarven armor from being in it, so who can say? It could also be Altmer armor, though. It certainly doesn't look very Dunmer in design, not to mention it didn't appear in Morrowind, so that probably rules out it being Dunmer, and I don't imagine Bosmer making something with such an ornate design, so I'd say either Ayleid or Altmer.

Yeah, there is that... Well if the armor belongs to the Aylieds, I could see them wearing different issues of it in seperate areas of Tamriel. Same concept with every other elven race it may have been designed by. Or it might just be High Elf armor that evolved over time.
