On a side note, it would be really cool if they gave the horses more personality this time around. Let us feed them (sugar cubes, carrots) to increase their disposition towards us, and whisper them if they are not obeying us well. And give some horses "unbreakable personalities" and some horses a kind of intelligence to hide during battle but then come back after the battle is over. Or sometimes the horses could have an aversion to like 1 specific monster that means if you're riding in their territory (where the horse can smell that particular monster) it becomes timid, unruly, and frightened. You have to coax it forward, and cajole it, and if that doesn't work, you may have to get off the horse and drag it along with you for a ways until your situation improves.
Some horses could be pranksters, doing something slightly silly and then guffawing over it. Like always turning its butt toward your face for its own amusemant. Then blaying with humor over your frustrated looks. Why do horses have to act like cars in a RPG? You push them they go, they go and go and go all the time, and then when you stop pushing, they stop at once. They do exactly what you say when you say. That makes horses look like motorcycles. Horses should have some kind of a personality, even if it IS subtle. Or if you prefer a more outgoing animal, you can take one with a less than sublte demeanor.
Now, when trading horses for a different one, you may be giving up great personality for one that has a bad demeanor and suddenly find yourself wishing ... that you hadn't.
