Why all the hate on Multiplayer?

Post » Mon Aug 09, 2010 4:49 am

I really don't understand why so many people would hate to have a multiplayer/co-op feature in Skyrim. I know it's a single player game (A GREAT one at that) But in all seriousness I think a multiplayer mode would be flippin cool. Just to think traveling around with my buddy slaughtering dragons and interacting with each other in battles, that would be awesome. Sure it ain't gonna happen but, we're free to dream. I just don't know why you people would NOT want that. Even if it was there it doesn't mean you would have to play it.
So I ask:
Why do you NOT want it?

Wastes development time which could be used creating the best singleplayer experience possible.

Just look at GTAIV and RDR as examples of how multiplayer just doesn't work well in open-world games. You have a huge open map, and all that happens is a load of players cluster in one tiny area killing each other repeatedly for unlocks etc. It's so dumb. As for co-op, that's better suited for story-driven games.

At the end of the day, any multiplayer mode would just turn out to be a token feature that was average at best. Why bother? Why waste time that could be used on single-player?

While there are quite a few people who would love co-op gameplay, there is a lot of work that goes into making it happen. In addition to the netcode needed, a lot of balance is required to make it so that it isn't too simple to do the quests. Either making a completely seperate co-op mode, or integrating co-op into the single player, takes an aweful lot of resources to make. Since there is only so much time in a day, resources put towards co-op would be resources that aren't being put elsewhere. Since most companies can't take as much time as they need (except Blizzard), they need to choose. I would much rather have the best single player game they can offer, than a good singleplayer game, with a godd co-op mode.

although i wouldnt mind a coop mode myself or a persistant multiplayer world if bethesda did what alot of other developers did they would constantly be patching any multiplayer issues all the time and never get around to alot of the singleplayer bugs. 2 or 4 player coop would be awesome in this game. MMORPGs have crappy combat and npcs that just stand in one spot all the time.

There is a multiplayer/co-op topic. As it has been confirmed it won't happen in this game, please continue there. Thanks for the link.

Hi there

It's best if we keep oft-repeated conversations like this to one thread, otherwise we'd end up with 290,000 threads on multiplayer and spears and one lonely little thread on "10 things I like about the game" being all buried and ignored, and making little racking sobs unheard in the corner.

Pity the little squished thread.

Use the "official" multiplayer thread instead. :)
