Why are Argonians so awesome?

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:34 am

So I'm planning on playing a Nordic warrior for my first play through of Skryim because of the setting. After that I was going to be a stealthy assassin Khajiit/Bosmer (haven't decided). However, a ton of the people on the forums seem to think no race comes close to Argonians. I don't really see the appeal, but I am more than willing to be convinced that they are indeed as awesome as you say, so convince me to play as one!

What makes them awesome? They way they look? Sound? Act? A racial attribute? An Argonian from the lore that was awesome? From past games? Are they just inherently awesome, cool by virtue of being Argonian? Some other reason?

I think that the reason for it is because they are a very unique race away from common generic races.
They have their own unique lore to them in the world of Tamriel.

Argonians aren't awesome.

They are pondscum that should be kept down by the Dunmer race.

They can breathe underwater, resistant to poison and disease, make great stealth characters, and took over Morrowind. Also, they're lizards who can walk and talk.

Then why isn't there as much love for Khajiit?

Because they look different from the regular human races so people are wondering what they'll look like in Skyrim.

Appearance
Lore
Uniqueness compared to the standard Elves/Orcs/Men.

Probably a combination of the three for a lot of people.

Lol if you don't see the appeal, nobody will "make you see", this is not Borat in the church. I'm not going to convince people to love Argonians, this is a privilege that comes from inside. Bethesda has put a lot of awesome in this race, the rest is up to one's personality and cultural representations.

Fair enough.

It seems that more people like Argonians than Khajiit (or are more outspoken about it), so I'm curious what sets the two apart? They are both races uncommon to the traditional fantasy genre. Although it would be useful to breath underwater...

Let's see how well the Argoinas would take a meteorite smashing into one of their biggest cities and causing the eruption of a nearby volcano, which also happens to be the largest on Tamriel.

Though I guess I can give the lucky scale-skins props for using a great opportunity when it presented itself.

They're opportunistic fools who have learnt nothing from their miserable years of captivity, since now they do the same to their tormenters-turned-victims. They expand with no goal other than self-interest, and endanger the safety of imperial citizens and threaten the Empire's peace.

I have no pity for them; let them retreat back to the uncivilised swamps from which they came, and let them stay there without bothering others.

I don't understand the love for Argonians and I'm not trying to. They're easily my least favourite race. I'm not a fan of half-human animals in general but Khajiits are at least half-cats and cats are awesome. I'd get it if they were half-dragon or half-snake, but I'll never understand what's so great about bloody half-lizards.

Because they can breath underwater and, Kajit aside, are the only race that doesn't look very human like. What I do hope is that the graphics have gotten good enough to be able to visually tell the races from each other (such as nords, elves, red gaurds and humans).

A giant scaly sea serpent with arms and legs that can breath under water and has an INSANE disease resistance.

What's not to love?

I just hope I can remake my favourite black and red Argonian

They have a very popular motto: "When in doubt, jump in the pool!"

Especially if such doubt related to being chased by bunch of angry Dunmer mobs.

It's more fun to roleplay as something you are not. The more alien, the better.

They are a very unique race, not only in the game but in fantasy in general. I like the way they look and statwise, you can turn an argonian in any character type without too much trouble.

I personally find the lore on Khajiits more interesting.

The moon sugar, the moon cycles. They just seem more awesome. I never play as one though. In Oblivion they looked so dumb.

(as I write this my pet Alfiq Khajiit is nudging my hand on the keyboard) :P

What's better than a dinosaur? A dinosaur who can breathe fire. What's an Argonian Dragonborn? A walking talking dinosaur who can breathe fire, wield hundreds of weapons and armour pieces and kick the former in the rear. That's why Argonians rock.

They have some pros, but I wouldn't play one in Skyrim. Nords all the way.
