Why are people wanting to dumb this game down so much?

You are trying incredibly hard to avoid conceding that you have no point. You have to actually return to previously scavenged areas just to hunt down an enemy type to continue using a weapon. You will find nothing else. It's empty, pointless, busy-work.

Or you could, you know take it to an NPC that could repair it.

HOW IS IT BUSY WORK??? I have no words to describe my amazement that you know how to breathe oxygen...no words at all...

It is a function of survival! You need a weapon to kill that enemy, you need a way to keep that weapon functioning! You also need ammo but im sure it is still too tedious for you to scavenge that from enemies as well! What sick monster conceived you????

There's only one NPC who repairs to a useful level and he's in Point Lookout.

An Irish lass from Alexandria. It's not a function of survival. It's a pointless, repetitive task required to get you back in the game. You have no alternative case.

Usefulness is subjective. What is objective is you can take it to any repair person and have it repaired, or use Alien Epoxy, or Somah, who also can repair to 100%. So yeah, several options are there.

NO! Useful level does not matter! It is survival and challenge! In FO3 nearly every merchant can repair items!

This has got to be some sort of dream, people this stunted cannot type, im hallucinating, someone call me an ambulance

-slams face into wall repeatedly-

The POINT is to keep your gear WORKING! SO it can do what it is created for! Killing the enemy for your SURVIVAL!

Yes, and to do so needlessly occupies time you could be doing that.

You're getting muted now.

I disagree with anyone saying weapon degradation is not needed.

First of all weapon degradation makes weapons and armor less one-dimensional because durability is a factor. Also FO is a post-apocalyptic game where degradation adds to the survival atmosphere, and BTW, would make the new crafting system all the more useful.

all birthsigns in oblivion are in skyrim as standing stones most of them do the same thing as the counter part in oblivion. See I can defend smarting up :) though I would like to hear your defense for not being able to carry a bunch of glass equipment in your pocket as a smart thing?
In a game where we ride dragons, use the force with our mouthes, talk to gods and help them make it rain flaming dogs on a village of cat people, travel to the nordic version of heaven and be able to come back fine and dandy, ya I draw the line at changing birthsigns LMAO

No. You don't know the difference between a birth stone and a birth sign. You didn't know Oblivion had birth signs AND birth stones. Also, way to cherry pick with the last sentence.

So again, you're not showing you can defend any of the dumbing down. You couldn't any defend one of the bulletins I made: birth sign removal.

Weapon durability/repair does seem like a good thing to have in a Fallout game, even if just from a thematic viewpoint (you're in a post-apoc survival situation, scrounging for bits to keep your gear working is part of the setting)

Of course, that doesn't mean that the general concept of "equipment repair" can't be done in an obnoxious & tedious way - Oblivion comes to mind, when you had stupid situations like needing to repair your mid-range Light shield after every stupid combat because the things wore out at a furious rate. I definitely didn't miss repairing in Skyrim.

Also for the folks that were saying a few pages back that not having degradation IS realistic, I'd like to point you to the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Even though, like I've already mentioned, realism and Fallout don't play well when in the same sentence.

Yeah that's clearly dumbing down /s

The only difference between birthstones and birthsigns was that the latter had permanent effects, and the former (which offered the same constellation) provided a temporary buff. Skyrim made it so that player's had to actively decide what stone they wanted to use - they essentially introduced the concept of sacrifice. Granted, I would have preferred that they kept Oblivion's system.

Try reading the initial, whole post before jumping in without your britches on. Cutting birth signs (which Beth PR said they were removing because of dumb people) is in fact dumbing down.

Does anybody remember Hine's comment on birth signs and their removal? I do.

He said, birth signs were removed because some people were choosing the wrong one at character creation and ruining their build.

Who were these people going through character creation by head butting their keyboard? Why would anybody think that person had a build? Whaa?

I want to play an RPG though not another "survival" simulator game.

What's next ?

crap-o-meter and having to find a place for the character to poop every 20 minutes ?

But Pete Hines is not part of the development team. So how am i supposed to take what he says seriously over Todd Howard which is the creative director. I find it weird that a person like Pete Hines actually gets asked and has to answer these questions.

Uh, he's the PR guy, that's what he's there for.

I'm currently looking for the verbatim quote and article it came from.

I also have the paraphrased soundbites in my head from the PR surrounding attributes removal as well as spell creations.

I'm going to close this for clean up and possibly for good. Lots of insults being thrown around in here.

Well goodness. No need to do either since this is over the limit. Do Not Start another.
